I have a level 19 (technicaly 20 but am in the sewers ready to complete the SK quest) Shadowknight that has been retired for a long while as I picked up a Necromancer to compliment my friend (who decided to play a beserker). Anyhow I've been wanting to play my SK again and figure this weekend I will let him loose. What makes this even more fun, is my main character is going to dontate some coin to the wayward Knight, allowing me to upgrade my likely pitiful gear.

My question to you all is, what should I buy? So much has changed with the class I'm uncertain what weapon and armor upgrades will do me the most good for the longest time. I appreciate any advice in advance!

Trudge through the remainder of Level 19 with what you have. Once you've done that, buy yourself a full suit of pristine forged carbonite armor, or steel, if you're wealthy enough, along with a pristine carbonite weapon (I would recommend buying one blunt and one slashing weapon, alternating between every other "mini ding" so as to keep both skills maxed) and a pristine ashwood kite shield. The armor quests are essentially worthless. The pieces turn green at different levels and it requires much more time and effort than it's actually worth (i.e., Edgewater Drains).

Message Edited by vwlssknght on 04-02-2005 10:50 AM

Don't know how much $ you want ot spend. But after you hit 20, if you have a decent amount of $ i would [Removed for Content] him out in a full set of imbued carbonite (imbueed steel if you got lotsa cash). Get an imbued 2hs. For a shield i would try to get the one dropped by paddlefoot (kite shield of bone i think).

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad to know the armor quests are useless this time around as they were a complete bugger with my main. So a good 2hs, a good 1hs and a good 1hb weapon is the way to go for offense eh? Sounds like a plan.

If it's not too late, just a couple things. First, the armor quests don't deserve as harsh of a censure as they've received. If you can find groups to complete them, or have a guild that'll help you out with just a couple of the trickier parts, you really don't have to buy any armor during tier III. If you look at some of the jewelry quests you can get through the entire thing, with little to no loss in effectiveness, and have enough saved that you won't even need money donated from your main to buy your shadow knight a full set of feyiron/feysteel when you hit 30. Secondly, on the weapons, just try to get one of each type available to you. I don't have an SK (on my way up), but I'll wager that you don't have piercing since I haven't seen a piercer recommended, so really any kind of blunt/slashing weapons will be fine. In between filling in different roles in groups and doing a little soloing, both will raise pretty fast. My berserker uses Berik for when he goes sword and board (although good luck getting one), a 2H carbonite pike because I like the style, and the dwarven warhammer of cleansing against undead. If you are still looking for a weapon and don't mind heading over to Antonica and helping out some dwarves against undead (I notice you're on AB), I'd recommend doing the Lord Grimrot's Scythe access quest starting from a dwarf at the Antonican claymore and picking up one of the cleansing weapons -- they last up until around 30 and have a nice proc against the undead. If you don't want to get a group, you can finish it solo at... 22 or 24, I'm not sure which, but everything except the Ultimate Bad Guy (TM) will be grey, and then you can do a snatch and run to complete the quest (you can probably figure it out for yourself, but there are many walkthroughs available).

The armor quests are essentially worthless

I disagree. The AQ actually has better AC and stats than the pristine carbonite until you get closer to 30. Doing the AQ also gives you a nice chunk of XP in addition to the actual combat XP you get from killing the mobs. At 29 I am still wearing most of mine and only 2 pieces of it (I think) are green. IIRC, even these green pieces still have better AC than the corresponding carbonite pieces.

I wore pristine for a while, thinking I would sell it as I completed the AQ. Unfortunately, they nerfed the resale before I could unload it, but I still changed over to the AQ stuff. Save your money for prisitine forged feyiron or feysteel for your 30's. That's just my opinion, but I tanked very well all through my 20's in the AQ. If you're going to spend money on the SK now, I would start upgrading spells.

Good hunting!

Message Edited by Drakkonius on 04-05-2005 02:34 PM

Aye - waterlogged is a good shield. I use the Ancient Kite Shield off Captain Hess in Stormhold, but I was lukcy to get the drop. I spent so much time there to get Berik, I finally got Hess to cough up the shield. So, if you're going to be spending a lot of time in SH anyway, see if you can get a good roll on that one.

I bought a set of vanguard from the armorer in EFP and slowly replaced it with AQ parts as I completed them. Yes, they can be a pain to do, I especially found AQ4 in edgewater and AQ6 in Nek to be painful, one for getting a group to do them and also trying to get enough of those *$%#&! asilian protectors! But they were worth it, its nice armor and XP and it gave me something to aim for, rather than mindlessly XPing. I don't know how any else feels but really I wouldn't waste my money buying steel or even feysteel armor (at 30) . I got by fine with my AQ stuff just save your money for feyiron armor at 30.

Also I think I got my shield from the nerius crabs by the docks in Nek Forest. There are solo ones around there and they dropped an ashwood kite shield I believe it was. Not the best shield you can get but it did the job and I could get it myself without having to find a group.

As for a weapon, I used the one we get for our Lvl 20 quest for a while then my friend made me a pristine forged cabonite morning star which I've now upgraded to a feyiron, nice little hammers to smash skulls with.
