View Full Version : is anyone here acctualy happy with there shadowknight?

im pretty much happy with mine, before i hit about 30 i was hating it cause our taunts were pretty sucky, but now 30-36 have been a breeze holding aggro.. do to a few spells ;D.. the only problem i have now is still the lack of weapons kinda sucks and hope the fix it sometime or another.. hehe.. but i say.. overall im pretty happy with it, so for all you who are complaining who are below level 30 just wait, it gets more fun i promise ;D

Same with me, over time I have become more happy with my SK and I don't have too many gripes now. I do think that the HT line is underpowered as it doesn't really do anything at high levels. At lvl 48 it does a bit over 1000 damage, which doesn't really noticably effect high level mobs. It's sad when we have a 30 min recast timer on 1000 damage when my group can do a Heroic Opporunity that hits for 1000 damage every 10 seconds... Ruse still does more damage than HT with 1 minute recast, and high level Assassins get "Assassinate" which does around 5000 damage with, I believe, a 30 min recast also. All in all I think everyone will find the the HT line of spells to fall well short of their Everquest counterparts. Oh, and on top of the low damage, they are resisted literally half the time making the spell effectively have a 1 hour recast. I have even had grey mobs resist it frequently...
i love beeing SK at level 44 and know other high level SKs that are also happy with there class

considering I loved my shadow knight in eq1 till level 70, i figured i would enjoy playing one in eq2 as well.at first I was enjoying it, then started to hate it .. aggro problems, bad groups, poor damage soak etc.now that I am almost level 41, I am enjoying it a lot and it seems like it is only getting better.as long as they don't come up with any crazy stupid nerfs, I think I'll remain happy with it for the rest of my days.

It seems both Shadowknights and Paladins hit various high and low points during their progression. I know there were times when I felt I could never hold aggro, didn't do enough damage, caved in like a paper house, etc. I don't think the power issue is limited to Shadowknights. For me, power usage is my bane, I'm down to 25% power more often than not after one battle unless I have boosted power or mana regen from mages, enchanters, or bards--healing and warding is very expensive and some of our better attacks are none-too-cheap either. When things start getting really tight HOs can come in real handy. I haven't worked with too many Shadowknights, really, but the few with whom I've grouped appeared to do just fine. I will say this, however, Shadowknights seem to have more broken abilities right now than do Paladins, which is not to say that Paladins don't have issues--we do, some of our spells are broken as well including one of our hate transfer abilities.

As for holding aggro, I rarely stick to just using taunts as they are pretty pathetic, really. Using pledges during battle (I'm pretty certain SKs get a varient of the Ancient Pledge line) along with warding is a good way to get mobs upset with you. Combat arts that have a stun component seem to generate a fair amount of aggro as well, although I have no written proof of this. Shield slam arts also work well if you have them; Paladins receive one called Courageous Dash that serves to increase hate generation. I wouldn't be too surprised if Shadowknights have a version of this as well.

For reference, since somebody was curious, I heal for 570 health with Devout Aid (adept I). I'd wager that with Pious Aid (adept I), which we learn at level 50, we will heal for about 600 health. Also, I'd have to agree that evac is probably more useful then the rez. If anyone dies, I'm usually the first so I'm not about to be rez'ing any time soon.

Now that I know how they perform at high levels, I can say that I'm happy with my choice. With Zarn's Plague Cloud, Pariah's Mark, and Shriekd of Terror, I never have to use any group buffs to keep on me, I usually find that 1 or 2 taunts is enough for fights in most cases, unless I'm grouped with an assassin, then I have to taunt more.
Message Edited by Kilopy on 02-06-2005 06:51 PM

I'm having a blast with my now lvl 21 ratonga shadowknight....It sounds like the class has some issues while leveling up, but i don't mind. 21 Male Ratonga SK (How could anyone not be a Rat SK!! We rule the world!) here and loving every minute I play him. Switching from Fury to SK probably saved EQ2 for me. What a fun class to play, and I haven't even got my pet yet.Only thing I would really want to see changed is an equipable item in the ranged slot (Idol of the Thorned for example), and giving us the ability to weild long spears (lances to be specific).

Loving every single minute of it. Spend lots of time just riding the horse, hanging out, and adventuring my butt off. Fun stuff all the way. Grouped this weekend in Fallen Gate with six people, all of us working on Armor Quests, and had a blast. Didn't die once and was asked, quite plainly, to switch to MT. He asked me this while laying dead on the floor from a green ^^ group that did scant damage to me fighting them by myself. Good feeling. REAL good feeling. I look forward to every level from here on up...and expect some will be less fun than others...but the getting there is the fun part.
