<DIV>sometimes i play a DPS role, sometimes a tank role</DIV> <DIV>lots of equipment attributes contribute to generating more DPS or being a better tank</DIV> <DIV>so the other day i thought i would try to list them all, to make purchasing and equipping decisions easier</DIV> <DIV>this is what i came up with (the lists dont consider the level of arts or how AA was spent, my focus was on how to select the most appropriate items to equip and the most appropriate adornments, and assumes i have 2 sets of equipment, one for DPS and one for tanking):</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>attributes that improve DPS (in no particular order):</DIV> <DIV>- attack (a function of STR and the DR of weapons)</DIV> <DIV>- DPS mod</DIV> <DIV>- haste mod</DIV> <DIV>- power (STR plays a role in this calculation)</DIV> <DIV>- crush/slash/pierce</DIV> <DIV>- critical hit</DIV> <DIV>- procs</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>attributes that improve tanking (in no particular order):</DIV> <DIV>- mitigation</DIV> <DIV>- avoidance (a function of defense and AGI)</DIV> <DIV> <DIV>- parry</DIV> <DIV>- deflection</DIV> <DIV>- haste mod</DIV></DIV> <DIV>- health</DIV> <DIV>- resists (all 10)</DIV> <DIV>- procs</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>so, a question and a couple of comments</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>my question is, have i overlooked any attributes?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>and my comments r:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1.  i note that haste mod plays a role in both DPS and tanking, cause the sooner damage arts and taunts recharge, the better the result...seems to imply that if i have a favorite item i want to equip regardless of whether i am DPS or tank, i should adorn it with haste if possible...and if i get an awesome item that includes haste, it would be a good choice to equip regardless of role...also seems to imply that i should spend some AA to improve recharge time...agree?  disagree?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2.  STR helps twice with DPS, increasing both power and attack...makes me think that i should focus on STR when DPS is needed, at least until i reach a point of significantly diminishing returns...agree?  disagree?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Shock</DIV> <DIV>70 Bruiser</DIV> <DIV>The Bazaar</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

So you might want to take that into consideration. All haste does is increase your weaponspeed which a) increases your autoattack damage and b) increases your proc rate. (slightly. probably.)There are a couple of specific items out there that decrease your CA recharge time (ring of the four winds or somesuch?), but they are few and far between.Getting the taunt AAs in the bruiser tree decreases the recharge time of your taunts significantly, and I highly recommend picking them up. The 8% decrease in recharge time of your CAs from the Agi AA tree is a slightly more contentious issue. There are well-reasoned arguments for and against, which can be found elsewhere on this forum.Oh, and yes. Equipping awesome items is always a good idea!</div>

Everything mentioned in the 'dps' list plays a role in aggro generation, which should be a major component of the 'tanking' list.  Bruisers don't have passive hate generation like warriors do so you have to be able to hit the mob to maintain aggro; giving up crush/slash/pierce for more mitigation may not always be such a good idea.2 things left off of the tanking list: Power pool (influenced by Str and gear choice, I wouldn't slack on Str when tanking if you can avoid it)                                                       Aggression skill (influences taunt resists; as it was added to the game recently there isn't much itemization support for it yet but several classes have group buffs for aggression.)<div></div>
