<DIV>70 barbarian bruiser</DIV> <DIV>maybe i am stupid, but even after a year of play i have many questions re the various stats that effect my toon</DIV> <DIV>and at lvl 70, it seems critical that i understand these stats in order to select the correct armor, jewelry, weapons, adornments,...</DIV> <DIV>as i struggle to assemble 2 sets of equipment, one for DPS and the other for tanking, i am finding i dont know how to select between items offering different benefits</DIV> <DIV>perhaps this is already documented somewhere, and if so that is great, simply point me to the info</DIV> <DIV>but if not, would really appreciate thoughtful comments</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>items provide a wide range of statistical benefits</DIV> <DIV>+4 defense...+600 vs crushing...+3 deflection...+2 slashing</DIV> <DIV>but it isnt always obvious how these benefits map to a bruiser's visible stats (i.e. the stats shown in the Persona window or displayed by the /weapon command)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>i can see how an increase in STR increases power</DIV> <DIV>and how STA increases health</DIV> <DIV>i can see that AGI increases avoidance</DIV> <DIV>all these r simple and straightforward</DIV> <DIV>i have been told that an increase in WIS makes us better resist magical damage (and yet we have a specific resist labeled Magic...does WIS only effect this resist, or does it help against any spell damage?  in which case when tanking i should really load up on WIS)</DIV> <DIV>it appears that INT has absolutely no role in the play of a Bruiser...or does it effect a spell i cast using a hex doll?</DIV> <DIV>i can see how an increase in defense appears to increase AGI</DIV> <DIV>but we have no visible resist stat vs crushing...if my protection vs crushing is currently 800, then another 600 is huge...but if my protection vs crushing is currently 8,000, then another 600 is less significant...so would be nice to know what mine is</DIV> <DIV>and although i see references to things like deflection, parry and riposte in this forum, i have never seen them explained...what r they?  what effect do they have on combat?  how can i measure mine, to understand the significance of another +3?</DIV> <DIV>likewise, i can appreciate that +2 slashing is going to make a slash weapon do more damage...but do i have to buy and attune a weapon to figure out how much difference it makes?  surely this can be measured/calculated in advance as part of the analysis of what to purchase</DIV> <DIV>and to further muddy the waters, why would a slash weapon include a +2 slash benefit as opposed to simply having a higher damage rating?  or do these benefits all stack?  in which case equipping 2 dual wield slash weapons each with +2 slash would increase the damage of each by whatever +4 slash implies</DIV> <DIV>finally, why r DPS mod and Haste mod numbers instead of percentages?  i can convert them to percentages by hovering over the number in the Persona window with my mouse, but when an item offers +2 haste it isnt immediately obvious what that implies (i guess i'd have to look at my current Haste mod, and if it was 10, i would assume that a +2 haste benefit would increase my current Haste percentage by another 20% of whatever it currently is...not exactly the most direct way to recognize the value of the benefit, and not even true if DPS mod and Haste mod r on curves like avoidance)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>no doubt i have overlooked a number of other interesting stats as well, which will occur to me as soon as i post this <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV>thanks in advance for any information that my brothers and sisters can offer</DIV> <DIV>and good hunting <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Shock</DIV> <DIV>Bazaar server</DIV>

<P>ok, have experimented with WIS, and can see that all 6 resists shown in the Persona window increase as WIS increases</P> <P>am curious if the other 3 hidden resists (vs crushing, slashing and piercing) also go up...am guessing no, but would appreciate confirmation</P> <P>i must admit, WIS increasing the 6 resists is a bit different than i expected</P> <P>it was originally explained to me that WIS played a role in protecting against damage from spells</P> <P>but, for example, i have a combat art that does heat damage</P> <P>so someone with high WIS is protected from the heat damage done by that combat art</P> <P>and am not certain but am guessing that there might be spells that do crushing, slashing or piercing damage</P> <P>so someone with high WIS isnt protected from those sorts of spells (if they exist) unless of course WIS also increases those 3 resists as well</P> <P> </P> <P>Shock</P> <P>Bazaar</P>

Wis only increase spell resistances (heat, cold, magic, divine, poison etc...).Crushing, slashing and piercing resistance are part of mitigation, to raise them up you'll need to equip mitig jewelry (light or dark chitin rings for example) or mitig adornments. As for combat arts dealing heat damage, I'm not sure but I don't think they can be resisted. I saw soaring dragon (the monk counterpart of your blazing lunge) being parried or deflected like a normal melee attack, I never paid attention if it was resistable like a spell.<div></div>
