View Full Version : Can deflection skill be boosted to the point that it actually works?

The basic idea of the EoF changes seems to be that skills are now more important and valuable. OK, makes sense. Deflection skill is what sets a brawler apart from a plate tank--this is how we should be able to avoid more hits than a plate tank. What I wonder though, is how feasible is it to raise deflection to a point where it will actually win a check against level 72+ mobs, named mobs, and epics more than yknow 12% of the time? From what I've seen, there really isnt that much deflection gear in the game pre-eof, and EoF seems even worse based off just the brawler set armor and adornments. More importantly, is it possible to raise deflection while maintaining high defense as well? I could boost my deflection by 15 if i wanted to give up 25 defense... but doesnt this just make me avoid less? (or does it? I dont think this can be answered without knowing the formulas they use -- saying 'chance to deflect/defend is computed as a check against mob level and melee skill' is just a bit too vague yknow...) It seems to me that we need to be able to boost both deflection and defense if we are to actually avoid more than a plate tank against these mobs that have large bonuses to hit. <div></div>

<DIV>From what I understand is that the mobs just flat out ignore our superior portion of deflection regardless of how high it is, unless you are below 12% already... I'd almost say forget about deflection and favor parry and defense because I havent heard about any mobs that ignore those. Uncontested portion of deflection... whats the [Removed for Content] point if its just ignored. It would be like making mobs ignore all but an uncontested portion of a plate tanks mitigation. Sorry Mr. Guardian, you may have 60% mit but the mobs you fight will ignore all but 12%... good luck! I don't know really, it just burns me thinkin about it. Best to keep playing and ignore it like SOE wants you too.</DIV>

<P>High end heroic/raid mobs ignore most or all of our defense/parry/deflection, with the exception of the portion of your stance that is specified as uncontested - master level defense stance provides the most uncontested avoidance with 12%.</P> <P>Currently, once you have your master stance, there is no way to further increase your deflection from AAs, adornments, or items. This is a major issue as plate tanks have a base 19% uncontested block from shields and have access to AAs and adornments that further increase their uncontested block/avoid. Thsi translates to them having as much as double the avoidance and a significant mitigation advantage when tanking end game content.</P> <P>I agree with the OP in that brawlers should be the kings of avoidance in any situation, and I would suggest that our entire base deflection (~20-25% depending on stance quality) be made uncontested. In addition, we should be able to use bonuses from AAs/items/adornemnts to further raise our uncontested avoidance just as warriors and crusaders can do with their uncontested block.</P>

<DIV>It gets me how many people go on about uncontested avoidance, and how many problems are goign on with avoidance in itself. We arnt going round the block saying we want to be able to ..... (Insert godly power here) we just want our class to work right, everytime i see a honestly issue with any class i always think</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Paying</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Customer</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>O i wonder why SOE dont allow us to do polls on these forums</DIV>

<DIV>Aye, from my years of experience when you have 70% of something it is 70% of something... not 12% of something. I did fail calculus so mabye that has something to do with it.... But I'm pretty sure that 70% =12% is wrong. Just like their new stats curve why does 200 haste = 125 haste... why cant 125 haste just be 125 haste. </DIV>

polls on the boards are useless and only a very small percentage of the custoemr base visits here.<div></div>
