Need some bruiser pvp advice. I'm currently a 54 bruiser, & had my first run-in with tsunami fighting a 57 monk at 53. From what I read, engarde(swashys) is similar but worse.

So trying to find out what most bruisers do when confronted with this. The only thing I can think of, & I havent had an opportunity yet to try, is to watch their buffs & watch for them to cast these, stop auto-attck, mezz them, then basically try to run down the timer. Sound feasible or am I way off? Anyone got any ideas?

That's about the size of it, yes. Remember that defensive stance will actually make this worse for you as every attack of theirs that you deflect/riposte will be riposted right back. Mez and fear are your friends, as are temp MIT buffs.

Tsunami and En Garde are two totally different things, although the tactics you would use to counter them are somewhat similar. Tsunami is a monks ability to be 100% immune to melee attacks for up to 12 seconds if they have the master. En Garde is a proc that deals a lot of damage (in the 500ish range) every time you deflect, parry, riposte, etc. Like Owain said, defensive stance is the devil against En Garde, so switching to offensive and trying to mez/fear until it runs out is a good tactic. You could also hit Vigorous Spirit and Hardened Skin and just wait it out, although that method is a little too passive for my tastes. Personally I would try to mez or fear and then put some distance between them and me so that they have to waste time to get back to me. If you can run away until Tsunami/En Garde runs out and then rejoin the fight you'll be much better off.

Keep an eye on the buff bar, and run like hell until their buff is gone, then kill.

Tsunami basically grants temporary invulnerability against Bruisers, with potential for extra dps if the Bruiser keeps getting Riposted. Defense: stop attacking, don't waste your CA's, and fear/mez/run for the short duration of the ability. If fear/mez/run not an option, just bob and weave, because if you're not attacking it's not really helping the monk do any additional damage.

En Garde is Bruiser Cuisinart. If they can get close enough to hit you, they'll eat your lunch even if just with autoattack. It takes about every trick in the bruiser book to beat it head on, and the most reliable way to beat it is to run the heck away until it drops (LOOONG 36 second duration though). I've beaten a few swashies head on with it before, but it's seriously hard, and involves every trick in our bag, mez/snare/fear/sonic fists, taunt+fd's, well timed stuns/roots, and generally hit and run hard and fast. En Garde hurts, bad.

Well, I meant similar in that you dont want to be attacking when either are up, since Engarde hurts not only when you block, but they get a chance to attack when they block your stuff too, so I figure autoattack off would cut their chance to attack in half.

You mentioned snares & roots...we get those?

Not innately but there are items you can get, such as the Forest Spider from the ratonga newbie quest in temple street, that have those effects on them.
