I am brand New to the Bruiser class. Level 17 Bruiser on Nagafen. I was hoping to get your thoughts on the Bruiser as it relates to PVP? Strengths? Weaknesses? Strategies? Rank among classes? Thoughts? Who we crush? Who we fear? I have a level 70 SK on Nagafen and decided to make an alt and am really enjoying the bruiser so far. Starskey "Empire" Alt.. Squiggy SK "Darkhand"

Message Edited by Ramglobal on 10-16-2006 07:35 PM

Strengths are against mages, unless they see you before you see them, in which case they're a weakness. Ranger is another weakness..but no matter who you fight really, it depends on skill level of you and your opponent.

I don't much remember lower level PvP, but I seem to recall we do pretty well. I'm going to disagree with the previous poster and state that casters and Rangers are easy pickings. Likewise Zerkers, Pallies, most Guardians and in fact pretty much anyone except Monks, Swashies (when they get En Garde at 65(?)) and healers who can heal faster than you can hurt.

Weaknesses are bad group aggro/damage/taunts and difficulty in catching runners. Try and group with a Guardian/Zerker and someone who can root and these problems are solved though. You'll find soloing easier than most non-scout classes.

Remember to max out your safe fall: fighting on an incline gives you a huge advantage against classes who take falling damage. Regularly use your Feign Death to get the opponents to drop target. Oh, and get Devastation Fist at 35. Invaluable against pet classes.

Finaly, unless you have the funds to twink yourself out, take the STR AA line and put all your available cash into good armour and Adept IIIs. STR AA gives the best DPS other than the finest of the fabled weapons.

Bruisers are one of the better PvP classes at all level ranges. Feign Death, Safe Fall, a self heal, and the ability to take some hits as well as dish them out make for a very well rounded PvP class. Like Owain said, get your gear upgraded as high as you can afford, and I'd also make sure that your self cure line is upgraded as high as possible until you get Close Mind at 58. All of the ancient teachings skills are extremely useful and worth every penny you spend on them. Healers and some monks are about the only thing that will cause you serious problems until 65+ which is when swashbucklers become really annoying.

im only 50, but as of right now the only classes that give me trouble are healers, illusionists, and sometimes paladins. healers just cant do enough damage unless i knock them off of somewhere. illusionists are tough if you dont see them coming because of that [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] pet, but with stone deaf and close mind it should be easier.it really comes down to a player's skills though. gear can make somewhat of a difference, but it isnt that hard to get all mastercrafted stuff and ad3's.

I'm still a newb bruiser (only 29) but when I see an illusionist I usually try to mez their pet and go after them like there's no tommorow.

At higher levels, I will agree with Owain. Once we get our teleport punches...generally rangers and mages become quite a bit easier, and it's funny when you see them panic and run around when you're on top of them...then try to figure out what happened when you go back. :p

mages become far more easy when you can get stone deaf and close mind as bruisers and most all melee classes tend not to have the greatest of resists. my warden can sit there and take a critted ice nova in the face and shrug it off.and yeah i have been really lazy about getting devastation fist... so that would help quite a bit if i ever got it. =/i still dont get the whole argument about rangers though, they have never given me trouble. i generally dont engage right away though and let them try to kite me while i have my out of combat regens going. so once their timers are down for a bit i just go to town and I can kill about any ranger in under 10 seconds at level 50 as long as they arent orange. bruisers are just great burst dps.oh and i hate scout evac.

Stone deaf and close mind...durr, despite having a 70 bruiser I forgot that part, lol.

just try and get mastercrafted gear, ad3's of the dps CA's and buff CA's. some of them arent worth the effort in getting ad3. also id suggest trying to play a little more passive in fights, let them attack first and wear down their timers. i cant remember my last suggestion maybe it will come to me later on.

your self cure will dispell a lot of root types. Not all of them but still a good bit. I've never had a problem with rangers or casters even before I got Stone Deaf and Close Mind.

the only thing we cannot cure are poison/disease and elemental types. i suggest carrying potions to cure those along with being prepared to use close mind and stone deaf if you have them.

Question to everyone: Am I the only one having trouble with rangers? Im at 54, and it didnt quite seem as bad before, but once I hit t6 or so theyve become a huge pain.

I have mastercrafted gear, decent agility, and a M1 defensive stance, and yet yellow & even con ones still have no trouble hitting me, I check the combat log & they dont miss even one shot....so Im wondering [Removed for Content] is the point of upgrading def stance? Is there somethign about avoidance Im not getting?....Also they do so much dmg that by the time they shoot with stealth shot, quick shot, & poison dmg most of my health is gone...& i got a ton of STA as well....how do the rest of you deal with rangers?

Message Edited by Doomhand on 10-23-2006 12:14 PM

Get into melee range right away. All of a rangers big damage hits require them to be ranged, if you can close into melee and stay there they drop like a sack of rocks. If you get sniper shotted, hit your self heal, cure any snares or roots they might have on you and get into melee range. After that it's like taking candy from a baby

Also get the staff from Fallen Gate Vault, and make a hot key to swith it in and out fast. Staff has a snare on it and can be casted while running. It has a 15 minute reuse timer on it but definately helps a lot. Think it is minimum level 25. I am 47 and still use it often.Unat

Can you give any more info on the staff? I checked Ogaming and found a wand, but it isn't usable by bruisers. Is the staff a drop or a quest? If a drop, who drops it? I am seriously tired of missing a kill because the guy runs off and I can't catch him.thanks

We got gimped in pvp with the new expansion. Pre-EoF, I was able to avoid much of what was thrown (melee) my way. Even against targets 2 or 3 levels higher than I, I could hold my own. Since EoF, I don't avoid anything. My avoidance was dropped about 10%, but the numbers of how often I'm being hit would calculate at an avoidance drop of like 70%. As I explained on another post here, just a few days ago I was engaged in a pvp battle with an even conned ranger and I avoided all of ONE of his attacks. My avoidance reads as 60% (was 70% pre-EoF) vs an even conned apponent. Tell me how avoiding one of about 20 hits is 60% avoidance? I've said it once, I'll say it again, I may as well don a robe and call myself battle mage.

Umm have you gotten any adornements or gotten AA for your bruiser in the EoF line? if not stop [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]ing and get it done. If you have done it allready and you still want to be a mage, just reroll, im sorry
