I've seen a lot of folks talk about doing this quest, saying this name or that name to talk to... but no actual, step by step walkthrough for us Dreadnaughts. I just did this as of post-LU 24 patch, so this will be the most current way of completing it. Click on the names of each quest to go to the ogaming page about that quest if you need more info on finishing it.

Here goes...

Talk to Master Irudan Ortai (he's down on one of the islands, near the one with the tree on it). Do his quest (Aiding the Disciples) to kill 10 of each type of windsister. Get the 5000 faction.

Talk to Shing Ho (he's up on the edge, right near the entrance to the monks place). He will give a series of quests that give quite a bit of faction each time (something like 8500). They are called Sandscrawler Debacles, Of Scribes and Sentries, and Fallen from Beauty. Then, once those are done he will give you a repeatable quest called Disciples Edicts (if you are below 20k faction). These give 1500 faction each time, and you will continue to get them until you hit Amiably faction. Once there, you will recieve the repeatable quest Proving Grounds, which only give 1000 faction each, and require stronger creatures.

Once you hit Warmly faciton (30,000+), he will give you a new quest called Strange Deliveries which is similar to the other quests he gave prior to the repeatables (run to another Monk, do something for them, come back). This will net you 3000 faction (bringing you to ~33,000). Then he will give you another quest called Diplomatic Liasons, where you need to deliver a message to Enforcer Drulk in Big Bend. This will net you 6500 faction (bringing your total to 39,500). He then tells you to talk to Shen Rai, who is up in the monk base itself.

Shen Rai will give you a quest (after being a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] about it), called Kufu's Intentions. Head back down to the entrance to the monk place (where the carpet back to the swiftrider camp is at), and make an immediate right and jump off the edge into the water. Follow the coast cliffedge towards sinking sands and you'll see an opening. In the back of this cave is two doors, one of them saying Halls of something-or-other. Click on it and go into the instance of the Cave of Knowledge.

You can invis past everything, or FD past the things that aggro. The camp you need to get to is fairly easy, just keep following the right wall (take all right turns when presented). You will find a camp with a bunch of tents across from a pond. There's a clickable scroll on the table behind Kufu. You can talk to him, but he won't tell you anyhting. This place also has a bunch of Order monks, quite a few conned green at 70, so it's nice to not be aggro for this part. Head back and Shen Rai will basically tell you to screw off, gives you a choice of equipment (ring is the only one we can use and it's Int, bah) and gives 3000 faction.

Now with this, you are about 7500 short of Maxed Ally, and there's no indication that you have any more quests to do (in fact, this is probably what stumped most folks until they tried max faction before talking to people again). So, go kill the Order. I'd suggest the massive groups of 15 + the trainer. If you are doing this solo on grey mobs, then I'd suggest killing off the 15 and FD master. There's two groups right there, so 30 monks per spawnm, all double downs. Each gives 50 faction, so 1500 per sweep. Killing named Order monks doesn't give any more. Basically do that 5 times (or kill extra in between spawns to speed it up), and then go talk to Master Ko, who is sitting behind that massive group of Disciples that are training.

He'll give you a quest called Elite Training. Kill 15 more Order Monks (another group training basically) then go back to the Cave of Knowledge into a new instance called Ashen Elite Training Camp. There you can FD past a bunch of acolytes, then talk to the three folks there and do their tasks. First, Jun Shun asks you to punch the hell out of a dummy (can click on it, I just hit F key with cursor over it the 30 or so times to blow it up). Then run past Tao to Lee Chan and he will ask you to meditate. I got the update in 5 seconds of sitting on the mat next to him. Then talk to Tao Rae and basically talk to her as she punches the hell out of you and knocks you backwards.

Back to Master Ko and Voila, your Ebon Dragon title!

Some pointers:

- Killing Ashen Order Monks BEFORE you hit the 30k faction mark will only speed up the process a little, you will still have to do the main quests. It will also put you with aggro faction with the Order... which are all around the folks you need to talk to in the monk base. Shen Rai is completely surround by Order, and Master Ko has a couple elite guards standing right next to him.
Unless everything is grey to you, it's advisable to just do the quests until you need that extra 7k.

- Doing the repeatable quests gives you xp and achievement each time. At 70, I was getting converted xp as well as regular achievement xp each time I turned in a quest. All the quests gave a lot, but even the repeatables were giving me 4% each time. I ended up just doing the repeatables to get my faction up, and finished with two and a half achievement points from the whole thing. Kind of made it worth it.
New info: Just tried this with my lvl 66 alt... the repeatables do not give normal aaxp along with adventure xp. Apparently, the lvl 70 notation for achievement experience is either screwed up for quests, or just displays weird. In a sense, it more worth it to xp somewhere else until 70, and then do these repeatable quests for the AA conversion. If you are already in your 60s, and want to get the most out of this (and don't mind waiting on your title), then I'd wait until 70.

- The repeatable quests can be deleted and you can get a new one right away. I would suggest trying to get quests that avoided Fish updates, since it is harder to find them and come back out of the water quickly. Puma and Bird updates are the easiest, hold out for those...

- For Proving Grounds, If you are wondering where the Flame Tornados, or Gilded Falcons are at... head over to the giant side of pillar of flames, there's a bunch riddled throughout the raptors and giants places. This might be the only time I'd pick the fish Pointed Marlin updates. It takes just as long to go in the water as it does to head over to the entire other side of the zone, and Point Marlin are fairly frequent and always come in groups of 3 (only need two groups). They are heroic encounters though, as opposed to the tornado and birds.

- The ability to raise faction killing Harpies has been removed since.. oh.. February this year? So the only way to raise faction now, after the quests, is straight up Monk slaughter. Sorry folks.

This is the step by step of what I did to get my title. Took only 2 days of effort, and ended up with the Title and over 2 AA points. Probably could have done it in one sitting if I had that much consecutive time, but I was called on raids over the weekend. Honestly, at lvl 70 it only took me about 10 hours or so, and most of that was running around trying to find the things to kill.

Hope this helps someone out there!

Message Edited by Raidi Sovin'faile on 06-27-2006 04:00 PM

Hey, thanks for the sticky!

Mentla wrote:
ogaming says 'recomeded lvl 50' but I seem to remember these being tough mobs. Would you recomed waiting till 70? All AAs good up there I guess.

It is indeed soloable at 60.. especially since you can FD past most things as a Bruiser. It's mostly designed for solo, or at worst small group stuff. Some of the things needed for the quests can be heroic encounters, but tend to be lower level.

I'd say if you had a healer with you, you could do this mid 50s. Others might have some trouble in the solo instances if they can't invis or FD... but anyone can buy invis totems these days.

One thing to note, since I started this with an alt now, who was only 66, the xp from the repeatables aren't giving any AA xp. So it's only at lvl 70 that you see an appreciable amount of experience (in the form of aaxp) from it. At 66, I was getting around 2% per quest in normal xp, that's it.

I'll add that to my original post.

I'm doing this quest for my Monk and need to kill the Ashen Disciples to max out her faction. However there was a second faction on the Disciples that took a -100 hit with each kill to "The Dreadnaughts", a Freeport faction. Anyone have any info on what this faction is?

Dreadnaughts are the Bruisers of Freeport. They are in cahoots with the Disciples.. or there are plans to be, something like that.

They are only in Freeport as far as I've ever found... so no biggie.

Of course i could be blind... there is always that option!! Ogaming says that a few mobs in the Sprawl lower this faction also which would not make sense, think they were the giantslayer thugs etc, yet there are also a couple of racial quests that raise it.Edit: Found the answer, it's the lowbie mobs in the Sprawl. All the Giantslayers were put on an indifferent faction called the Dreadnaughts. Co-operating with them increases your faction with them (There is a quest NPC at the entrance from Big Bend/Scale Yard), and either killing them or Ashen Disciples lowers this faction. No other way to raise it, but seeing as these are the only mobs i found on this faction it's hardly a pain if they hate you either :smileywink:

Message Edited by Kessia189 on 07-05-2006 02:59 PM

MAn i was on eq2i and some others. I had a hard time with the maxing faction.. MY BIG TIP DO NOT do the quest on the island untill you need to max your faction that way you gain more thru the repeatable quest. then ya hav far less to gain at the end.
