View Full Version : 60+ PvP Advice

I'm level 63 with pretty good but not outstanding equipment http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/pplayer.vm?characterId=349505122 20-odd points in the ST AA and no PvP gear.

I got soundly beaten today by a 64 Swashy and I was wondering if any 60-70 PvP Bruisers could give me some advice on how best to counter a class that is able to turn our DPS against us. Obviously stuns and mez - which are much shorter than in PvE - is not going to be much of an option after the next Live Update. Anyway here's his version of how he did it:

that was a fun little duel, i dont know what leanan does in pvp, but right before i hit my 2 DPS buffs and my 13 secs dmg proc, sually thats enought to instill large ammounts of fear into my enemys.. or at least into thier HP. Also i use a life tap poison, so 25% of the time, im getting some heals. Apart form that its just msart fast CA clicking. And since ur a bruiser i hit you with the parry debuff first, after that its relative cake, spam 3-4 frontals, cheap shot hit behind, evade a few times, knockback using my AE and thier gone

They also have En Guarde at 65 which is basically more of the same DPS-reflection but a lot [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]ing worse!

I know that not every class can necessarily beat every class - and with the next set of Bruiser 'fixes' maybe I should just get used to being beaten one on one.

But I have to say this is a rare event for me and I don't like it. Don't like it at all.. :smileymad:

Anyway, rather than whinging about it or asking for scout nerfs I thought the Bruiserish thing to do would be to ask around on how to do better - then go back and do better!

P.S. Don't say upgrade your spells - Spongy loam is going for 12 PP...

Message Edited by annaspider on 05-25-2006 09:53 PM

Well first things first, vs a melee (especially a scout) you should be using defensive stance which i assume you can adept3 since its a level 58 skill? Not only does all the extra deflection and defence make it harder for those CA debuffs to hit you, but bruiser defensive stance has absurd amounts of poison resist on it to help against their procs.99% of the time a scout will be in offensive stance, lowering their defence and parry. Using knockdowns you can get behind them so they cant parry at all, and offload high damage CAs before they get back up.You can also try to minimise the effect of all their short duration buffs using mez then fear then mez again, once they have clicked them all on.By ST AA i assume you're talking about strength since you seem to be unarmed. It's not the best tree for PvP in my view although in an extended melee battle like this one would be it's not too bad. You'd probably be better off with weapons and some extra procs or avoidance from other trees while you work towards Mantis Leap, the definitive brawler PvP aa.

Get 2 more lvls for KB combo is my advice. They might sing a different tune then Anyway... Try and keep being behind your opponents at all times, no matter what class if space isn't an issue (I know it's hard to do this against scouts). If he hits you with the parry debuff off the bat, shrug it off with our dispell. Their damage proc is like the dirges ancient group buff that does dmg on each successful attack. Try and avoid that, it will hurt, so mezz/fear and stun when you see it up (don't know what the icon looks like). So, that's my advice. btw, I had much better success at deflecting attacks then parrying them in PvP with my little bruiser.

20 points in Sta line on a pvp server is a complete waste.

When you have full points for sta line then put them back to get your teleport ability if that's what you are after.

Message Edited by Zigmund9 on 05-26-2006 01:11 AM

Message Edited by Zigmund9 on 05-26-2006 01:11 AM

Thanks for the advice. To be honest my balanced stance is Adept III and defensive is only Adept I at the moment as I rarely tank and it was lower on my 'to-do' list. I'll definitely upgrade that and see how it helps.

As to STR being a crappy line, I kind of agree with you - but I can't seem to give up that sweet DPS. i 've always parsed hihger than the other Bruisrrs in my Guild even when they're 3 or 4 levels higher. I've always found it very useful in group vs group and especially raid vs raid where even if my power is low I can still be dealing serious damage to casters and healers while the plate tank taunts.

I'll try to make more of my knockback/stun/mez in order to attack from behind - but to be honest I was burned down so fast it was difficult to get a serious attack going. My usual PvP CA routine is Eye Gouge, Pressure Point (big STR AA damage-mitigation debuff) and Uppercut so I'd already debuffed him and launched a stun in the first couple of seconds. I could probably have done it quicker. Or do you think there's a better opening salvo?

The more I hear about Mantis Leap the better it sounds. How does STR fit in with the other AAs? Are there any good one that I can use weaponless? If not I can always use my /unequip macro - but it'd be nice to have one less thing to concentrate on when I'm fighting.

t was a bit of a wake-up call for me 'cause previously I've done very well against scout classes - the only even-con classes I hated fighting one on one were Conjurors - especially if Dev Fist was down. :smileymad:

Message Edited by annaspider on 05-25-2006 10:33 PM

The STA AA line is non weapon specific so you can combine that with STR nicely.
