First off, apologies if this has been discussed before, but the search engine isn't working for me ATM (I hate Lithium).

Secondly, apologies to any long time raiding bruisers who are pained by reading this, I'm still learning...

My guild has made some dramatic strides w/in the past few months towards becomming more of a raiding guild, however we are very tank heavy (mostly pallys and guards). While we aren't to the point where we will pick one class VS another, we're quickly approaching that point. Having quite a few monks in the guild and being virtually the only bruiser in the guild, I'd like to cement my place on most (if not all) raids by proving that we are a very viable and desireable class to have on raids. As you all are painfully aware, there are a lot of assumptions and misconceptions about our class (monks too in many aspects). When some people hear that monks do more damage than a bruiser during a long battle, that will stick in their brain. So here I am, seeking any advice that you all can provide.

I know that over time in a long battle, a monk can do more damage due to haste where as most of our DPS comes from CAs, but you can quickly run OOP on a long fight. They have many of the same skills that we can offer (FD pulling/raid wipe prevention, AGI buff, etc). They can also group FD (which can come in handy from time to time) and heal other members of the group as necessary. On the other hand, we provide a DPS buff.

So far I've learned that:

we need to turn our hate proc off (unless we're tanking, i know a no brainer, but...)

use our CAs sparingly during long battles

and of course use anything that will help us on the side (potions, manastone or other such mana replenishing clickies, etc)

Now my question is which CAs should we focus on? Or one of our punching lines (sorry the name eludes me at the moment, but I think it's Pound) that can be used to complete our basic HOs, it does approximately the same amout of damage as Dropkick, but at a higher power consumption. I've been using the Meteor Fist, Storming Fists, and Flaming Lunge lines everytime they come active. I also Kidney Punch as often as possible. I will answer the best I can, though being 70 and also have gotten most all the best drops through T6 raiding it makes a difference.

Gobbwin wrote:

First off, apologies if this has been discussed before, but the search engine isn't working for me ATM (I hate Lithium).

Secondly, apologies to any long time raiding bruisers who are pained by reading this, I'm still learning...

My guild has made some dramatic strides w/in the past few months towards becomming more of a raiding guild, however we are very tank heavy (mostly pallys and guards). (Most of my CAs are AD 1 or AD 3 w/ a few masters thrown in the mix) I have all my CA's timed out so I am pretty much going through them constantly. Knockout combination at 65 is awesome as well, though you have to make sure the MT as REAL GOOD agro, or you will pull the mob. I basicly start with my shortest times (recast timers), then go through the medium times, short timers should be up again so go through those, then I hit both my AOE's (Since they are long casting that gives time for your low timers and middle timer skills to refresh and you can go through those again as well as medium ones right in a row), then move to your higher timed abilities.. by the time you hit 3 or 4 of those you will have your short timers back up, hit those then go finish off the long timer abilities...rince and repeat.

For example, One Hundred hand punch consumes a considerable chunk of power compared to other CAs and might totally miss. Though on really long fight I have potions, manastone 1 and 2, have the conj and necro feed me some hearts and shards and your pretty much going to be good till you pass out at your keyboard. Though getting in with a Illusionist or Conj is always awesome for the extra haste and mana regen.

As far as AAs go, I've focused on the INT line for the increased chance of a crit melee hit and am likely going to go for STA next for the proc. I went 4/4/8 in Stam, Int, and Wisdom and generally parse higher then most everyone except the conj and necro's. Though you can see my previos post on the other thread about AA DPS in reguards to a more accurate piscture on how parses turn out.

So what habits do I need to break (getting better at not going all out in the first minute of combat then having no power for the rest of the battle) and what should I improve upon? Not going all out right away is a good idea if for nothing else to ensure your MT has got agro locked. Though after your guild gets everyone up to 70 you should not have to worry so much about power because generally the fights do not last that long.

My stuff for the curious: http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/pplayer.vm?characterId=267583201

Thanks in advance,

Message Edited by Gobbwin on 04-10-200605:54 AM

Hope that helps some.

I can add some things. With bard or enchanter in grp power shouldn´t be a problem. Also i often fight in raid with Rumble M2 active and its not that often I actually steal aggro from our MT and I spam my CA´s pretty good. But if u wanna do that u have to have a really good tank. Bruiser dps can be really devastating. =)

also try having a coercer in the main tank group. the aggro buff they are able to cast on the main tank make it very hard for me to pull aggro. also nice to have the dps buff and power regen. not too sure what other classes help buff the main tank's aggro gain but im sure they would work wonderfully too.

Regardless if you are tanking or not, you may want to try spreading out your KB CA"s. Many of our attacks have a knock back effect. What I do with these is spread them out, so that one is usually available to use. The reason I do this is to help prevent damage intake on MT. You can often times really help your healers by spreading out your knock backs on the named/tough mobs. When ya See the MT get low on health, or healer/caster snap agro, these are great for buying to time to regain agro or allow the MT to regain agro.

One thing ya can do is save casters by using rescue, one taunt, move to MT, wait for a tuant to land fromt hem and then FD. Great hate transfer ability.

On Epics they will not recieve the full effect but it can still interrupt them, so its a good tactic to use on raids as well. When I am tanking it really helps to mitigate incoming damage on the MT.

I will toss in my advice as to bruisers on raids. First off you should keep up rumble and push your dps as hard as you possibly can. I really think that using a /assist MT macro is mandatory as a bruiser. As soon as you see the target change simply hit fd and stay down a few seconds.

Know your mobs. If you know that a mob has a barrage and your push your dps and grab agro and the mob turns and kills the casters, thats a 50dkp minus. Prep resists. You are going to be expected to stand in and take many aoe's and resists matter.

You mentioned that your guild has alot of tanks and that reminded me of a very depressing guild I was once in. Too many tanks in a guild is a recipie for frustration. The gear gets very dilluted and the debuffs and dps from other classes isn't there. The darkest day for me in that guild was back in the day attemption the Black Queen with 11 tanks 10 of them plate. The best way to describe that raid wipe was it was like fat people getting it on, lots of stuff was moving around but nothing cool was really happening.

Proh 70 Bruiser

The Bazaar Server

That's great, we haven't quite gotten to that point yet, but it's definately something best avoided.

Thank you all for the responses, I've already applied a few of the tips here to great affect.
