I currently have a Defiler that I enjoy playing...still a lowbie but fun. I play him primarily to team with my son who has a Berserker that he enjoys quite a bit. I am wanting to keep my level and my son's levels fairly close to make it a bit more fun (speaking of the Defiler and Berserker duo). To my question... I am experimenting with a couple of alts for the sole purpose of soloing whenever my son is unable to get online. I "think" that I have it narrowed down to either an Iksar SK or an Iksar Bruiser. How do these two compare in regards to solo play? Or...should I be looking at a Mage or Scout class instead? Thanks <div></div>

<DIV>For right now Bruisers solo incredibly well. Good damage while being able to take abuse and heal ourselves. Not to mention fear, mez, stun, stiffle, and FD for when you say "I wanna live!". To me, bruisers are kinda like the defiler of the tank class (i play both a bruiser and defiler). It's not straight up like a cleric or something where you click 3 buttons and sit on your thumbs. You have to work for agro, dps, and all that stuff. Kinda like how a defiler doesn't just cast heals, they have to debuff, slow, ward, and heal to get the job done. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The main problem with a decision about character choice right now is the combat revamp coming up in less then 2 weeks. Things could change drasticlly with that. My recommendation is to start either or. Play them a bit and maybe even start both. Get them both to around 20ish and see which way you want to go. Then again, that's just my normal method of picking a toon. I have 3 I play with 6 created because I was "testing".</DIV>

Sks are getting some nice things from what I hear. They are feeling the love where as bruisers are kinda getting a downgrade in things like dps but are getting improved tanking ability. Bruisers will still have fear and mez which were two staples to our solo capability. Monk, well my bruiser solo's much better then my monk friend on live. We both are similarly equipped with the monk having a few better items but not by much.

every class can solo its just a matter of how its done. remember its not the class its the player playing the class. and if you are a smart person and learn your tricks then you will do fine. pick what you want to be not what others say is better. of course ppl will say that i'm a better soloer than so and so....i've killed more names than another....i did this when they couldnt do that. soon you will beleive all the hype and come to learn that some of it was bs. just cause i said i've dated cindy crawford doesnt mean its true! pick a class..learn what it does..play what it can do...dont do what it cant..dont expect it to do what it cant and have fun and be the best sk,bruiser, monk you can be.
I duo with an SK of my level quite a lot. We're both a little envious of the talents of the other <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />The SK takes damage more smoohtly due to his mitigation. I'm envious of his 'harm touch' skill that does big damage every 15 minutes (which is why I'm after Devastation Fist, even though it can't be used in PvP or vs heroics), and SKs also get evac, which has saved us a few times when we duo without a healer. The SK's self heal (life tap) is good for 250 health every 20 seconds at L43, so isn't that far different from what a bruiser can do every 90 seconds over time (but it also does 250 damage to the mob).I think both a pretty cool and fun to play, and are my personal favourites of the six fighter classes.

I like the basic concept of the Shadowknight, the concept is definately my type of player I like to play. It can do a little bit of this and a little bit of that; however, the reality of the class is very different. I remember a quote on the shadowknight boards from a miffed shadowknight that couldn't find a group or something, and it really stuck with me. "Everything you can do, I can find someone to do it better!" That really hit home for me, as my first character was a Shadowknight, and I was really fustrated with playing the class, because I really didn't do anything "well." I even quit the game for a bit cause of it. I started a bruiser when we got the Bonus XP after the update. While he is still a lowbie, only level 35ish. I can say I've had more consistent fun with that character than I ever could have had with my Shadowknight. If they ever allow a respec I would respec him so fast it would make your head spin. A lot of people say wait until almost 40 and your SK will be good, and I answer to them. Why should anyone have to wait that long? Playing this GAME should not feel like a job, you should be rewarded continually throughout the life of your character. Bruiser has done that for me, Shadowknight . . . has not. I would not recommend playing a Shadowknight to anyone. Yeah they got some slick stuff they can use, heck they can do just about everything. Its just someone can do it better. But, play whatever you have fun with, I know a lot of people love their SK. TBD <div></div>

Both are really good soloers if thats what your looking at, but I've played both a Shadowknight (up to level 50), and Bruiser up to 50, I'm enjoying the Bruiser more.

SKs can solo better at higher levels. Their level 55 ancient spell - tap veins - is a PBAE hits up to 6 targets, deals 1000 dmg and self heal 466 "each" target you hit. That is a 2796 self-healing every 60sec. They also have ward and other lifetap spells and their insane spell resistnace (like 5k vs. disease and 3k vs. others.) Bruisers are good at solo too but just not as good because our ancient spells are bad.
