View Full Version : Tank Mode - DPS Mode Question
Ok this is probably a noob question but here it goes anyways. lately ive been purchasing gear to prepare for those moments wheni need to tank or assist the tank in a DPS role. Question is what exactly constitutes as Tank Gear and DPS gear. My understanding is Tank gear has an emphasis on STR while DPS gear has an emphasis on AGI. Is this correct? <div></div>
The only quick note I will give is, remember that AGI affects your Avoidance rate. If you're looking to tank, you may want a lot of AGI to increase your chance to dodge attacks. STR affects your power pool, but the few tanking bruisers I have spoken to use a lot of AGI to get their avoidance in the upper 80%s. We don't have great mitigation, so the avoidance helps us stay in the fight longer, without as much power drained from the healer. <div></div>
i know that but doesnt AGI also effect how fast and accurate you are along with avoidance? My understanding is that it does both .. help avoid and be more accurate while STR helps with how hard you hit. I base all of this on absolutely nothing of course. <div></div>

<P>If you mouseover the categories in your persona window it actually gives a brief explination of what the different stats provide. AGI is avoidance and success attacking. Str is power and how hard you hit. Sta is hps. </P> <P>In my experiences (I tank a lot) I go for the best AGI and STA I can find. This increases my hps and avoidance. Str is the third item on the list for me because I'm not so concerned about how hard I hit as I am whether or not I actually hit on offense or get hit on defense. When I get higher in lvl (only 37 now) and start raiding, I will probably go for AGI and STR as the 2 main items because I will have less of a need to tank. Agi for hit success rate and Str for hit damage.</P>

Trench, wait until Live Update #7 before you go on a shopping spree. It's nigh impossible to fortell what changes they have planed with the tank changes going live in that patch, as well as changes to the priest classes. Something that may apply today may be obselete come LU#7. <div></div>

<DIV>Some say Agi helps attacks, purely based on the mouseover on the persona window. However AGI doesnt change your displayed ATK rating, which would be proper 'evidence' that it makes you more accurate. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There is little to no 'real' evidence that agility does anything at all for your melee, and its more than likely that the description is out of date early beta info. Although its still a possiblilty that Agility does affect the accuracy of ranged attacks.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Strength on the other hand most certainly does increase damage done.</DIV>

Your experiences may be different than mine, but after boosting my Agi by 8 points my Atk went up, though not by much.</DIV></BLOCKQUOTE></DIV>

<DIV>You sure whatever you had that gave you the AGI didn't also have STR on it? =P</DIV>

<P>the weapon type itself changes ATK. You'd get more accurate numbers if you switch an item that is NOT your weapon.</P> <P>Finnster</P>

<DIV>Ah, that could be it. I switched from a cestus and a club when I equipped the sticks. Thanks for the tip!</DIV>
