View Full Version : Most common problem today with Monks

<DIV>I will speak the truth...</DIV> <DIV>As of today, and as days before...</DIV> <DIV>Monks avoidance/threat is diminishing slowly. I can see it, I can see it effecting me. My avoidance is at 70% avoidance with group buffs on and the avoidance buff on a party member. I will start by saying, Monks have no attack when in defensive, by not having an attack, will you miss most attacks and eventually lose threat and one of the DPS classes in the group will steal aggro by default. But if you improvise by going into either a balanced stance or even a offense stance, you will hold aggro much better but, you will lose avoidance/mit which is what your class foundation is made up of. They should give us more avoidance, more threat in the stances. That is what I, and all other Monks ask for. By doing this, will it balance most monks. I am not complaining about Monks DPS. They have excellent DPS for being a fighter class. I am going to say, this is a common problem and argument most Monks try to bring up. I am not pleased with my monk. I am fully fabled out. 8k HP</DIV>

<DIV>Questions, OH so many questions:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1. How many AA do you have. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2. Are all your taunts mastered? And did you master2 your group taunt?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3. Do you have any hate transfer going to you?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4. What mobs are you tanking?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Reasons:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1. I find that the taunt AA's help tremendously.  20% better group taunt.  4 second single taunt (instead of 8 seconds)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2. This one is obvious <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> but just checking.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3. I like to have a swashbucker in my group to offtank any mobs that might otherwise have gone for the casters.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4. Avoidence is not as usefull against some mobs as it is against others.  I find that I tank "better" in balanced stance with my mountain stance up, because the difference between that and defensive is 7% avoidence (useless really) and 1% mit (oooooh)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I really don't think its as much a monk problem as it is a tank problem, as I've had the exact SAME problem on both my guardian and my paladin.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Something sony IS doing to fix this is adding agression skill. Taunts will be resisted less = far more hate against those yellow mobs.  Since avoidence will never work correctly (its random FFS)  adding avoidence won't change much.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just my 25cp <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>1. 66 Total AA points so far</P> <P>2. My taunts are all Master I</P> <P>3. I do have a dirge in the group but, when I am limitted on getting a dirge, I stumble holding aggro.</P> <P>4. I am fighting lvl 68-70 Mobs, Names</P> <P>They must fix the avoidance. 70% avoidance = Mobs have 30% chance to attack me... Mathematically, I am not supposed to be touched. I am "supposedly" to "avoid" attacks based on my avoidance. I have 8k HP, reason I want them to fix the avoidance is that, we are getting hit oftenly AND it hurts. I do not like those stun stances because those are considered to be prepared tactics say... for names.</P> <P>My DPS is fine. In my raid I putout about, 400-800 depending on the encounter mob/duration.</P> <P>FOB/Sharpened Shall Baton</P> <P>110 Haste</P>

<DIV>Ouch 66 aa <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> LOL jk, not everyone is an AA [Removed for Content] like I am. (e.x. I spent 3 hours trip-FDing around mistmoore castle.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>(NOTE this is not in regards to you)</DIV> <DIV>When EoF came out, the whines could be heard into space about how much harder the mobs were.  This was the same day I lead a group to clear the first area in MMcastle, soloed 3 65-67 heroic named mobs in catacombs, and got over 50 PVP tokens (crazy day that was)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I've got 80 AA now and augments is every slot. Its getting back to where it was before the change.  Easier I think.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I've been keeping track of my true % to avoid, and its around 62% and my displayed avoid is 65%.   So I would have to disagree that avoidence is broken while grouping.  When I tank labs this weekend I'll let you know how that goes.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For aggro, I might suggest you get the taunt AA's to help. You may think "oh, why do I need AA's, i didn't before." But the mobs have now been designed to be easy to people with 70 aa.</DIV>

The mobs in Castle Mistmoore are [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]es. They have that nasty spell, I forgot what it does. I believe it'a dot, correct me if I am wrong but, it feels like there debilitating me. Just need that [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] priest to cure the trauma. Even so, fighting two to three mobb that ^^^'s are [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]ing rediculous.

<DIV>for DW Slashing... I believe you can use:</DIV> <DIV>Horndrake Crescent</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><img src="http://eq2.xanadu-community.com/images/loot/582.jpg"></DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>They have 3 major spells they cast to on me, that i've noticed:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1 is a groupwide "spells take longer to cast" debuff.</DIV> <DIV>Another is an aoe hit, that also debuffs (mit, right?) the dot your thinking about, methinks </DIV> <DIV>And the 3rd is a stifle that just never seems to go away.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Alot of zones I can pull a crappy group through with no problem. But some zones (nizara, Nek castle 3, MMcastle) the whole group needs to be on their toes.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Something that helps ALOT (and I don't have access to, sucks to be me)  is an enchanter.  That group of ^^^ + ^^^ + ^^ dosn't seem so hard when you can take them one at a time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>For DW Slashing, you can use</P> <P>Horndrake Crescent. The DPS is not that great, but you have requested DW Slashing</P> <P><A href="http://eq2.xanadu-community.com/images/loot/582.jpg" target=_blank>http://eq2.xanadu-community.com/images/loot/582.jpg</A></P> <P> </P> <P> </P>

With there being 100's of DW crush, 10's of dw pierce, and 1's of dw slash <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There are only 2 that I know of, everything else is pierce or crush.</DIV>

<DIV>Brawler = Crushing</DIV> <DIV>Seeing a Brawler using a pierce, or slashing DW = A Weak Brawler. Unless, you can Pull some Uber DPS out of your [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn].</DIV> <DIV>Wish I had 600/600 Crushing lol. So that I can attack the raid mob and never miss.</DIV> <DIV>Chel'Draks a little [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn], he's easy.</DIV> <DIV>We've practiced so many times now, we just dominate. </DIV>

<P>My Monk now my MAIN harvester, and goes out to parties as comedic relief.  My Guardian replaced him and does the FIGHTER main function MT and hold agro to many many mobs... oh doesn't die in one-two shots wearing lesser gear than my Monk... strange.</P> <P> </P>

<P>I'm sorry Brawlers using Slashing or Piercing are weak brawlers?</P> <P>You ate paint chips as a child didn't you?</P> <P>I have all 3 maxed and pushed beyond max by gear/buffs etc.</P> <P>The Twin Calamites are DW piercing.</P>

<P>rofl</P> <P>the twin calamities suck, obviously you think thats good dps, but it's not.</P> <P>FOB/Hardened Shell baton or Hand of Destruction are the best combo in the game for brawler dps. Apparently, you did not drink enough milk as an infant.</P>

<DIV>Enough name calling!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The best DW in the game does not mean the easiest to get.  If the best weapon I had was DW pierce, [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] right I would use it.</DIV>

<P>Don't get me wrong, I can tank save for the DPS happy scouts and mages picking their own targets.  I do not die often, just losing aggro to JUST scouts and mages I know drop the mad DPS because they THINK they have a Guardian in the group or something... why they persist doing this boggles the mind.  But now I played a Guardian and used my aggro techiques, I can handle scouts/mages higher level than my Guardian, taunting is done with little effort... why I want to tank now with my Monk??  My monk is fun, but only to Harvest in aggroed areas, writs and assisting the MT in a group and use Group FD is all.  Oh and comic relief.</P> <P>Maybe I should of never made a Guardian to realize how easier it is in holding aggro with them...  I'm tainted..</P> <P> </P>

I'm a big fan of the Stonestaff of Striking.  It doesn't have the proc (but tbh, that proc is nothing in comparison to the damage 2h weapons do) but has +4 crushing and of course the avoidance bonuses.  I easily out dps the twin calamities with this 2h, it's just shame it's lore and I can't have one with a +10 defence adorn for tanking and the other with +10 Haste <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><p>Message Edited by Herbster on <span class=date_text>12-18-2006</span> <span class=time_text>04:14 PM</span>
