So.. are we the only class that didnt get anything really cool for new AAs? Everything is well... just like somthing we already have... save maybe 2 things, the agro transfer and agro reducer stance (which for me personally arnt very exciting being on a PVP server, but thats beside the point) point is... everyone else got somthin cool.. all we got.. was the same things in differnt packages. Sigh... wish i was a swashie
<DIV>Much like in EQ1, Sony offers a Monk class but does its best to get you to stop playing it. :smileymad:</DIV>

I'm pretty disappointed with the new AA's too. I hadn't taken an end AA from the KOS AA tree, since none of them looked worth it, and I was looking forward to getting something useful with the new AA's. Sadly, nothing there looks worth taking either <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

<DIV>personally i think the monk aa's in eof are extremely good. masters evasion at 100% chance to dodge an incomming attack or aoe thats uber.... combination? thats pretty nice adding even more dps. then we get improved mend.. thats great utility having a 50% heal for a mt in a jam... or yourself to live... faster taunts... more threat from taunts.. hit chance/power reduction aa... straight dps increasing aa's... i think we made out like bandits... imho this expansion has given some life to monks with our new aa's and increased absorbtion from mitigation. the only thing id like to have seen is an aa that makes my feign death reuse quicker and raises it to 100% ><img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> and for the record i think the most useless aa ever for a tanking class *yes we're tanks get used to it* are agro dumps.. <DIV>Im a bit torn on monk AA's, they arent lousy and they arent really somethin special either. Amonst the characters I play the monk AA's are a good bit above those of my warden's, but nowhere as neat as those of illusionist or swashie, so #3 out of 4 in my eyes, could been worse, could been better. I would have prefered some extra hate control ability as end tree ability, I cant see why monks only have 3 end abilities to choose from when most have 4, it would have been an excellent place to put some sort of hate enhancer.</DIV> <DIV>Anyways, regarding OP, I havent tested it myself, but if the monk deagro skill and deagro stance work as scout ones and they havent changed how it works, they should be a good choise in pvp, as they should clear the oponents target. Now, I dun play on pvp server and I dun pvp much to speak of, so might be wrong, but if it still works that way it should be handy Id think.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

I dunno, I'm quite happy with the EoF AAs so far. I've sunk over thirty points into it, and I've noticed a lot of changes for the better with my char. The enhancement to mend alone makes a tremendous difference, and the encounter taunt upgrade, Will line upgrades, and face of the mountain upgrades rock. I spend most of my time tanking, so for me, the AAs were a great boost. I haven't tried to look at it from the perspective of a DPS monk much, but I imagine that the combos set would help a lot: +damage, +recast to a lot of our combat abilities, and they make a noticeable change.Okay, so we didn't get 75% runspeed, or the ability to wipe rez sickness, or group invis. What we did get, however, filled out a lot of areas where we could have been better, or where post seventy improvement was a necessity.I still want an AA that will let me block with a fighting baton or 2hstaff, but I think I'll have to wait until forever for that.I'm really kind of curious, though. For those folks that find the EoF AAs lackluster, what were you hoping for/expecting? Just wondering.<div></div>

My monk is my alt, and I don't use it much except for encounters like 3P that require a brawler. I guess what I was hoping for with the AA's was a line that would be a straight increase to the tanking ability. The ability that allows you to dodge and avoid aoes (unless you take damage) is a nice thought, but if you're completely stunned during the duration... I don't see a huge usefullness for it. And as I use my monk mostly for tanking as well, I wasn't too impressed with the combination line. I do like the upgrade to the heal spell though.<div></div>

I think the body line looks much more useful for a tanking monk. Master's Evasion is a little borked at the moment, but the skill upgrades in the body line are quite nice. I'm not completely done with it yet, but I expect I'll be as happy with the stuff I don't have as what I do have. The 20% (I think- my tree isn't in front of me atm) miti increase on face of the mountain is pretty sweet, and the added spell resist to Stone Stance makes the whole "rawr I'm stunned!" thing a little more worth it in a world where most damage isn't pure trauma. Some of the upper things in Awareness are helpful- the taunt upgrades and the hate transfer addition to Martial Order, but the cure/heal/stance enhancements are really what's been helping me along in the post combat change world. One of these days I'll unspec all of my points and test out how I perform with the AAs as opposed to without. It's on my list of projects...a list which is sadly getting longer every minute.<div></div>

While I am not particularly high yet (low 30's), I am not having any problems tanking for groups (I have tanked Andruil as an even con, and the snake thing in the gnoll tunnels and did better than a plate tankie) and I don't have any issues holding agro if I start the pull (my rule is simple, if I am tanking, you don't do ANYTHING to the MoB or me until I taunt it at least once). If I am straight DPS, then I turn off my Dragon Stance, don't taunt, and voila! No agro! I am also wearing a haste cloak and normally travelling with an Illusionist with M1 Alacrity, with Ad1 Tranquility and M1 group haste buff, so when I am DPS mode, I actually hit my haste cap (69% for my level). So I really don't get the whole Hate Dump thing. <BR>

<DIV>Monks can tank, monks can dps.</DIV> <DIV>I just finished building a DPS guardian, yes a DPS guardian. People "LFM dps for XYZ" I say DPS guard.</DIV> <DIV>I've also made a tanking fury (compared to a fabled plate tank I know at my level, I have 12% less mit, and 1% less avoid, I do however hold aggro much better ^_^.</DIV> <DIV>I think my next character will be a tanking mage (str line), but still not sure which class.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>PUSH the boundries! make the class what you want it to be. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Q-Quick question for magechild, how much dps are you missing out on by not using all your CA in that group? How much dps </DIV> <DIV> could you add by using all of them in turn? How much power is the guardian in your group wasting because he has to</DIV> <DIV> counter your dps with taunts? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I've found that good timing of my CA increases my DPS, but also draws aggro. </DIV>

my boyfriend is playing a monk and I took a look at his new eof tree once and loved all the new abilities and improvements. Damage, Aggro, Deaggro, Improved Reuse Timers... great!if you think your aas suck, you should see the warden tree after the big nerf =D<div></div>

<p>I am very very cognizant of my agro when I am not tanking, but if the main Tank isn't doing everything he can short of Rescue to keep agro during a fight, he needs to check his style and his power pool. The main tank is there to GET AND KEEP agro, he's there to be a whack-a-mole. If there is a long and protracted fight, laying off the damage is only going to make that fight even longer and more protracted, because not only is it taking longer to do the same damage, but yon beastie is healing up the damage you just did 30 seconds ago. In a raid there are people who are designated to feed the healers and the main tank's power, everyone else better manage what you have. If he's having problems running out of power, he needs to check his gear. And I know the other classes have far more agro issues than I do during raids, since I offtank.</p><p>Now, that being said, during a raid I don't spam my CA's quite as hard so my DPS probably does suffer slightly. I don't actually know what my DPS is currently, but I will be checking out a few pieces of software to parse my numbers out. Then I can also compare my numbers to sticks vs fists.</p>
