<DIV>Hey all, so I am brand new to EQ2 and now have a level 17 monk. I am being very tempted to betray and to become a bruiser. From all the discussions I am hearing, bruisers do more dps and tank a bit better. My concern is not being wanted in groups at a later stage. I have decent weapons and decent armor, but I do not appear to be doing much damage. I understand we are not dps but are rather light dps. But I hit for 20 on autoattack and 50 on my CA, when I see wizards hit for 300 at my level <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Does it get better?</DIV>

<DIV>Regardless, what others will post how uber l337 dudes they are in below, I'll tell you what we really are:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"Nice to have in a group, but not necessary for anything" , basically if there is plate tank LFG, he will be the choice to tank, if there is wizard or predator LFG, he will be the choice for dps, only if need backup, you will be invited. With exception of a few encounters, there is no extra advantage of having a monk in groups other than desperation of lacking other "role-based" classes.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Granted, with decent dps & subpar tanking, you will be also nice to have if tank leaves or dps leaves to keep things going. But not really prefered. On the other hand, if you are known as good to do your role or if your gear better than plate tank, that also might give you a plus on choices</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So choice is yours.</DIV> <DIV><SPAN class=time_text></SPAN> </DIV><p>Message Edited by selch on <span class=date_text>11-11-2006</span> <span class=time_text>12:06 PM</span>

sick and tired of the crying. We bring plenty to a group. Learn the monk before deciding to change to a bruiser. at level 70 i hit for around 500-800 dps on raids. i have broke the 1k mark more than once. oh i guess like selch said i am uber or whatever. now i cant raid tank much in kos but i can tank any instance in game right now before the nerfing of halls of fate. build a good rep as a solid tank and you wont have a problem find a group or being needed. its based on player deception nothing more nothing less.<p>Message Edited by superdave on <span class=date_text>11-11-2006</span> <span class=time_text>06:41 PM</span>

Bah, I can do solo DPS for 700+. In raids, that is minimum when debuffs are kind of rare but with proper debuffs, I have been doing 1,3k DPS. I generally stand at 900 to 1k since the debuffs are not always done at optimal times and thus my CA's might be on recast. But. That kind of DPS rarely takes me to top 8. But then despite that, on zonewides I am generally 6th since my DPS is pretty much predictable. But if I logged to my conjurer with a3's and legendary gear, I would be doing 200+ more DPS. So monks really are poor DPS on raids, that is not a reason to bring a monk. Tanking? Not for monks in raid environment. Pulling? Even a wizard can bodypull. Spawning worms in DT? Now that is where I am by far the second best with my monk (right after bruisers). No one can survive those like a brawler does. Oh well, that makes monk 'good' for one zone if you dont already have a bruiser with you. Groups? Like said, this depends on a player, not on class. What I can do with a monk, I have no doubt I could do better as a warrior. <div></div>

<P>Big deal. I parse 1.3-1.5k on raids. Our bruiser with basically the same gear will parse 1.6-2.0k dps if he wants to grab aggro. In other words there is no way in hell for me to beat him in a parse unless he lets me. </P> <P>Regards,</P> <P>Croaker</P>

<P>Post your parses as you wish... fact is people want DPS they look for mages first, scouts second... and whatever leftover (brawlers). As for Tanking, I been asked only for single pulled herioc names as MT. Most the time My monk Riplee Tigertail gets alot of attention from Plate Tanks that are friends of mine and guildies just because they like my Assisting the MT and bailing out group members getting aggro if the MT gets a bit too busy. - I play my Monk well. As for MTing instances, unless I form a group, none unless I have to take over because the Plate tank not so good.</P> <P>It's a Hybrid class plain and simple, and Mitigation >>> Avoidance in EQ2, period.</P> <P> </P> <P>Message Edited by RipFlex on <SPAN class=date_text>11-12-2006</SPAN> <SPAN class=time_text>09:17 PM</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by RipFlex on <span class=date_text>11-12-2006</span> <span class=time_text>09:18 PM</span>

I'm honestly on Hybrid wagon. We can't be best tanks, we can't be best DPS. But still, I love the Monk class. If you you no longer enjoy the class, try to play some thing else even for a short amount of time.I know you have invested some time in your Monk and I value that, but it's healthy to play some thing else every once in a while. You never know what you have till you lose it.<div></div>Also, please remeber that there isn't a perfect class out there in any game. It's the class you enjoy the most no matter how bad or good. I have a Necromancer that I play when ever I feel unhappy with my Monk. If I ever asked about that class, I'm kind of sure that no one would say it's perfect. So simply, ENJOY it.

Resipsaloq. If at level17 your having doubts about the class you have chosen, you may well not picked one tha suits you and your playstyle. Keep in mind, moving over the the bruiser subclass still means that you are part of the brawler tree. While yes they can tank slightly better, and outdamage monks by another slight margin. They are still sub par tanks compared to plate ones and subpar DPS compared to scouts and mages.Maybe re-asess what you would like your role in the game to be. If you still like the brawlers, then try a bruiser by all means. But they're lots of other fun classes in this game to try, I can assure you.<div></div>

<DIV>I'm not going to go on about our DPS or tanking abilities or what not. I played a monk for their solo abilities. Yes, I'm in a guild, but my monk was always my solo toon. IMO monks are one of the BEST soloing classes in the game. Yes that wizzy is going to nuke for 300 at lower levels, and thousands at higher levels, but he doesn't have the versatility that you have. You can get places others can't with your FD to work on quests, take out names, get exp, whatever. You can take out named groups by taking out a few FD'ing death and going back in for the rest. Hell, I made it down to the bottom of HoF the other day to finsih part of the Mark of the Awakened quest (picking up the bones) by FD all the way to the bottom. :smileyvery-happy: </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Don't worry about what all the other classes can and can't do. Play the class that you enjoy to play. Every class has their positive's and negatives. If you constantly compare yourself with other classes (even Bruisers) you'll just drive yourself insane worry about who's doing what.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Play a monk b/c you enjoy the class for what he can do. If you don't like it then by all means switch over to a bruiser and give it a try. I wouldn't bother doing the betrayal quest though unless you're playing a race that isn't evil. You should be able to make a bruiser and try him out for a few days and get where you are now anyway. By then you'll know if you like him better, and if not, you don't lose anything. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good luck.</DIV>

Brawlers getting some love in update, no?<div></div>

Nope. The dreader to-hit -bonuses that negate avoidance still exist and brawlers lost some of the avoidance. The bonuses on hitting are equivalent to a mob having uncurable mitigation debuff that activates as soon as the fight starts. Extremely lame. <div></div>
