It really depends on what you want to do. Bruisers are better tanks, I think monks are better dps the longer the mob stays up due to our higher haste, short term fights they win as they have harder hitting, slower refresh ca's. One problem with haste though is it's easier to gain than dps mods.Monks aren't outstanding at any one thing, we are decent tanks and dps but specialist classes will outshine you in both of these categories. The only real useful utility we bring to a group is group feign death. Nobody says Oooh get a monk for group haste, least in my experience.Monks are good soloers, perhaps the best behind summoners. Unfortunately summoners will easily beat you in the dps department, we are better tanksthan their pets by a far margin though. (Never really understood why summoners are so much better if they're tier2 on the dps charts too.)I'm actually on my second monk, I like the class alot and I have high hopes for being more useful in t7 raids once the combat changes take place. <div></div>

<DIV>Monks are great at soloing. We have good DPS, so soloing is fast, and Feign means that we can safely challenge tough encounters. Also, the combination of Wind Walk, Tsunami and Feign Death means that we can get to places solo that anyone else in the game would need a group to access. This is GREAT for getting quest updates, etc.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It's a very fun class, enjoy!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

I'm actually sort of torn over my monk. She's outfitted in all mastercrafted armor, has mostly Adept III's and Master I's, and decent weapons. But despite everything I've tried, I just can't seem to do as well as my friend who plays a bruiser. I can't hold agro either, even though my taunts and dragon stance are master I. So in my experience, monk is not the class ... for me. I did, though, sneak on and try out my husband's shadowknight. I liked that class alot. So if you see a Hello Kitty shadowknight run by, wave. It's me. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div>

Bruiser is way to go.
<P><FONT color=#cccccc>I must agree Selch, and Im seriously considering it. Bought a lot of masters and such, but Im still pivoting because I wanna know how much the CA's are reduced between monk and bruiser. True, bruisers get 5 AA's with DPS boosts while Monks only get 3, but one of the bruiser one's is situational for tanking, so it's really only 4. </FONT></P> <P><FONT color=#cccccc>At the same time, I know Vig Spirit got seriously nerfed, but I'll bet Skin Like Mountain did too. I know Skin like mountain gets an AA boost, but it's a percentage. If it's a percentage boost off a tiny number, what difference does it make? I just need to see how the CA's themselves are being scaled down.</FONT> </P>

I've a 55 monk on a quiet PvP server. That lets me PvE when I want to and then hunt players at times for some extra action. I'm always the main tank in groups (not raids) and just LOVE the monk class. I've yet to meet another class I can't defeat 1 on 1 (bruser included) if the levels are about equal.... that's not to say I always win, but if I don't make mistakes then I usualy will. I can go just about anywhere solo as a monk and find the class just way more FUN than most other classes. Even on raids I'm not feeling left out since my dps build contributes a whole lot of damage and my survivability means that I'm still standing after the mages and scouts have fallen. In short the bruiser may have a situational advantage in a couple of areas, but I don't really care... I'm having a ball with my monk and that's not changing anytime soon. I think monks are a great class to play for the diversity of abitlities that we have. As mentioned above Wind walk, feign death, and a heal allow us to go almost anywhere in the game, as well as making for great soloing ability. I just spent the last 4 hours exploring most of EoF. Tanking is a little bit of a challenge, and if you can get your group to *ASSIST* instead of targeting through you, there isn't much of a problem of controlling group aggro, and grabbing any adds. So far, I haven't had much of a chance to experiment with the combat changes, but the only thing I am disappointed with in this expansion is the Safefall nerf. I liked having the ability to jump different islands in KoS, and down to the forge in Solsek. Now can only jump 83 meters (weak).<div></div>
