Ive create a fury, illusionist and played them to 20. Then tried a monk and decided this is the one for me Im a little confused about weapons. Right now im level 14 and have a 2 handed hammer. I see others using fist weapons. What should i focus on trying to get at my level. Also any particular stats on my leather armor?Cheers

I'm not a technical expert, but I am a level 64 Monk. Using dual-wield versus a two hander really comes down to choice, especially at your level since you will level fast. Later in the game, proc's stats, speed, damage etc will be more critical, especially for the type of playstlye you have. Some folks switch out weapons based on the situation.

As far as I go, I tend to solo and even group with a two-handed staff. It is a bit slower, so I can get my auto-attacks in and time my combat arts. It also reduces the ripostes you get from mobs, since you will be attacking less, and doing more damage with each hit. Dual-wield you will probably get more ripostes, and may do more damage over time, due to the fact that if one weapon misses, the other may hit etc. Choose what you like, get the best you can find, and start to really focus on the details later in the 20's. A staff or batons are good choices, I like both, but have an awesome staff. If I could get good fist weapons, I may try that. Other's can comment further.

As far as armor is concerned, I found having a good tailor on hand to handcraft for me is the way to go (at least until T7). I had average tailored stuff in my 20's. In my 30's, I think I had a rare imbued chest and leggings, with the rest average pelts. From my 40's on, I had all rare, with the chest and legs imbued. Its expensive, so if you are cash strapped, focus on rare imbued chest and legs, and save on the rest. If you want to be an uber player, you can raid for choice equipment, especially as you approach the end-game. Dropped equipment generally sucks until later, so find a tailor friend, and have them craft it for you.

Keep your equipment up to date, though I generally change out every 10 levels. It makes a huge difference, but as long as you are current, you should be fine. If you want to play technically, you'll learn what you like and don't like. Keep jewelry up to date too.

I have always enjoyed my Monk. I think you will too. Keep at it, and see you in-game!

thers not a huge difference tbh..and as already posted it mainly personal preference, going with either choice will not break you or make you uber.

DW are generally slightly better for the added stats but with regards to overall dps theres not much difference comparing them to an equal quality 2 hander. In fact when you get to about 17 AA points you are probably better off from a purely DPS point of view using no weapons at all and choosing 4,4,8 in the strength line of AA. Thats assuming you will not be looting any uber raid drops in which case no weapons is not as good in comparison. You do of course lose the added stats from the weapons tho.

As you level and gain AA points you will find some skills in certain AA lines require a specific type of weapon, such as a staff for Wisdom line, fist weapons for Int line and no wepons at all for str line.

Edit: and btw ripstes now have nothing to do with weapon speed, the ripste rate was normalised (so on average u get same amount of riposte no matter what weapon) quite a few LU ago so i beleive the last poster is a little out of date regarding that aspect

Message Edited by Illustrious on 11-02-2006 03:39 PM

Thanx for 2 great replies Personally i like the kung fu look of a monk. So fist weapons is certainly more appealing. Now alls i have to do is read up on this AA you talk about hehe.
