i pull mobs to the raid. grp fd, intercede, fd, and our haste buff. I am sure many here will tell u that we have no role or that monks are in need of an overhaul. you have the right raid leader they know how to use your talents.

Agreed.

Monks are excellent pullers. Tsunami/Outward Calm/FD make for great pulls and make the inital few seconds of big fights much easier for the healers.

Our DPS is not top tier, but it's very solid (in the right group, I will average 1100 DPS for a raid), and we are very durable relative to most DPS classes.

A lot of the concern about our raid role has focused on the fact that Bruisers have better DPS AND tanking abilities (they do) and that we are not high enough DPS to justify multiple monks on a raid in preference to "true" DPS classes like rangers/assassins or mages (this is also true).

So, Monks DO have a role on raids. That said, there will not be unlimited slots for monks (or brawlers in general) on raids, and it may be tougher to find slots than if you were playing an assassin or a defiler.

It should be noted that, with the new upcoming combat changes, it looks like monks role on raids will expand. They should be adequate as tanks, perhaps not as good as some plate classes but adequate. This can actually make them the preffered tank in some situations, such as power draining mobs , since monks need less power to hold agro, and can taunt, using their hate proc plus good autoattack damage, with no power at all. They may also be used for single mobs that need to be burned down faster, since they put out superior single target agro, or mobs that take a looooong fight, since monks can hold at least some agro without power, and can use less power when they do have it and still hold agro. They should also be more survivable as dps, pullers, and the like, the jobs they do now. Their dodge buff will also be much more usefull, since it will actually allow you to dodge something. There will also be the new subclass achievments, although those are unknown at present. Some rumors suggest that one branch of the tree system will include a deagro, which suggests superior dps than monks now have (or at least the ability to put out more without pulling agro), and a dps branch suggests the possibility of a tank branch, with survival skills or agro getting skills or some such. That is all unknown however and it should be noted that the last time it was known, the current achievment abilities, it changed just before retail.

"... with the new upcoming combat changes..." I've been gone from the game for a while, is there somewhere I can read specifically what you're talking about there? Thanks. Oalu, Monk

Currently monks do have a defined role in raids...I mean a raid....The 3 Princes...yeah

And yeah...in the "right group" we can do good dps. So can a bruiser or a zerker though...no wait...that would be even better dps than monks.....yeah

Changes will make some difference...but nothing that will make a raiding guild go.."OMG we have to get more than one monk/bruiser". Our haste buff is nice...but yeah...it's minimal in a raid enviroment, even less in groups.

From what I've seen about aa changes with EoF, it looks like just enhancements to abilities that we currently have. It will be nice and allow you to fine tune dps/group utility/tanking ability, but if it is true, it really lacks imagination imo.

Only Gaige knows...he's really a dev you know..../wink

If the devs plan on continuing to have monks be inferior tanks to brawlers in EoF, I'd like to know so I can betray.

I found a way to get a 100% guaranteed spot on every raid as a monk. I started my own raid force, that I lead. :smileywink:
