<DIV>So I'll give the quick and dirty background first, I've played MMOs since EQ launch. Played it for about 2 years having mostly played a Ranger and a Monk. Monks for the style and Ranger because... well... I like rangers, sue me =P</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Since then I've gone on to play SWG (launch) WoW (launch) City of Heroes and City of Villains (Launch for heroes, beta for villains), EVE, and DDO (beta).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyway, on to the meat and potatoes, bought the game a week or 2 ago because my RL friends whom I used to play EQ and SWG with were still playing EQ2. I didn't want to torture myself with Ranger again, so I picked Monk. Been more than happy with my choice thus far. I've made level 23 and over a platinum from the broker (black iron clusters on Lucan are insane O_o).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I've almost got my 2nd AA line and was wonder what tree would be most beneficial to start on. Also, my 32 conjuror friend and I have thus far managed to complete 3 of my AQs, on the SH mobs we had to de-group, I'd lock the spawn, and he'd kill it. Will the two of us be able to complete the remaining AQs? Will it be easier with 24 (and windwalk)?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm used to a monk being somewhat of a melee glass cannon. Apparently they can take in this instead of DPS, which I find somewhat faulty but whatever, thats my take. I'm sure I'm going to need tank strategies for a monk, I've read a few such as turn on thundering hands and use cobra strike + AoE taunt. (And of course keep an eye on mobs to taunt stragglers that go after others).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is getting really long winded and I'm not sure where I'm going anymore so... umm... Hi!</DIV> <DIV>If you play on Lucan, hit me up I always enjoy some good chatter.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-Mindaeni Moonfist of Erollisi Marr, 23 Monk of the Silent Fist --- Lucan D'lere</DIV>

<DIV><EM>First off, welcome to the monk boards.  :smileyhappy:</EM></DIV> <DIV><EM></EM> </DIV> <DIV><EM>Herein, you'll find information both useful and maybe not-so.</EM></DIV> <DIV><EM></EM> </DIV> <DIV><EM>To help answer your questions:  Monks are tanks.  Period.  No matter what anyone may try to convince you of.  We have good dps in solo and group settings, mediocre in raid settings.  Our ways of holding agro are, in my opinion, based on dps, skill and the correct exectution of our CA's.  We have one single taunt, one AoE taunt, once single target taunt proc, once magic based combat AoE and one frontal fire-based combat AoE.</EM></DIV> <DIV><EM></EM> </DIV> <DIV><EM>The ability to self haste and the proper use of said skills can make you very successful asset to any group.  Learn your class and you should be just fine.  Remember:  Player skill and attitude > class mechanics.</EM></DIV> <DIV><EM></EM> </DIV> <DIV><EM>Good luck to you.</EM></DIV>
