just bought the game yesterday and i'm really enjoying my monk.. However, after reading many posts, there are a few things bothering me.First off, these "str, agi, int, etc" trees that you're all talking about.. I'm assuming that these are the Skill trees when you hit the "skills" button in game.. It displays the skills that you can start getting at level 20.Something that's on my mind is that they each seem to be for a specific type of weapon. Why would someone waste points on certain things in seperate trees if they require a certain (different) type of weapon equipped to use them each?Secondly, Is it possible to [Removed for Content] out my character? and if so, Can i do respecs to change him?Thirdly.. can someone please explain this whole "avoidance" and "mitigation" thing to me? Maybe give me a rundown on some math; what each of the stats do and how armor and weapons affect that, especially as a monk?Fourthly, Can you guys give me some heads-up on certain things I should know about being a monk? I'm level 13 by the way. That's about all I can think of for now, But I'm sure I'll think of more later. Thanks in advance

It's not a "waste" of points when you go seperate routes on the AA tree. Most higher level players carry several types of weapons so having a requirement of using a certain weapon to use a skill really is not an issue. At lower levels it maybe, but higher up you'll see that it's not because you'll be carrying around slashing, crushing, piercing types of weapons. Kukujo 70 Monk / 70 WWKithicor

The best way to [Removed for Content] out a new Monk or any charactor is to harvest rares and sell them on the broker. Blackened Iron Clusters and other rocky goodies sell for between 20-30 gold. Here watch this training video.

Mitigation reduces crushing, piercing, and slashing damage. Avoidance is the ability to avoid getting hit altogether. Resistance works like mitigation, but for various other types of damage. The links below go into more detail.

It's probably possible to [Removed for Content] your toon by picking AAs that dont' suit you, and yes you can respec. Given 50 AA points to play with, two lines is about all you can put a significant investment into. Yes, it irks me to use AA points for a feature/power that I will seldom use, but sometimes the power in the next level is worth it.

Here is a collection of info on Resists and Avoidance:

Very basic discusion
http://eq2.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=624&meid=248

mostly raids, a bit about resists
http://eq2.crgaming.com/viewarticle.asp?Article=10511

Thread with knowledgeable players arguing about Mitigation versus Avoidence:
http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=combat&message.id=100954&query.id=3929
http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=items&message.id=59940&query.id=3929

Things to consider about mitigation and level, but no numbers:
http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=items&message.id=59940&query.id=3929

Moorguard speaks about impact of tier and level on mitigation and avoidance:
http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=3&message.id=15906&query.id=0
Then corrects himself:
http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=3&message.id=15951&query.id=0

Some Formulas!
See post from Gorndax in this thread:
http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=items&message.id=67008&page=2
Title Says Bruisers and Monks but Parasiteke give generic info

http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=7&message.id=15510
Racial Traits - For planning those alts
http://eq2.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=308

Edit to fix links

Message Edited by Microphage on 08-28-2006 08:34 AM
