Still new to EQ2, i have a 24 assassin and i like him, but i also play with 2 friends the same level and they arent always on. I decided i want to make either a monk or bruiser to play when im not on my assassin, i'm just having a hard time deciding which one to go with. What do you all think i should go with? I usually play Dps classes in mmorpg's, and hade a monk and rogue in eql. Anyway, im asking this on both sides, just looking for opinions, anything would help, ty.<div></div>

Choose a race you like. If it's a neutral race, make a monk, because there are quests you can do to get Brawler Specific armour in the caves. If you decide later to be a bruiser, you can always betray.<div></div>

I'll give you the same advice I give everyone about any class. Don't try to make a decision based on the current state of the class such as comparing dps, situational buffs, etc, because this can change with any update; we've seen this time and again amongst all the classes. Decide what your interpretation (character concept wise) of a monk and a bruiser exactly is. When you've done that, you should already have a good idea which you'd like to play. For me my idea of a monk was to play an underdog of sorts. In a world of heavy plate wearing tanks I wanted to be the character who had the guts to take on the same enemies with no protection except my own skill and the clothing on my back. Of course, this can befit both bruiser and monk. Fleshing out my character goals I wanted to be the underdog who serves to protect his allies and uphold honor. I expanded the underdog of honor idea into a redeamed ratonga back when betrayal was a embarking to be proud of when you were done. I think you get the idea. Figure out the concept get outta the character and run with it. Doing so will keep the class enjoyable, and push come to shove you can always betray and try out the other side.<div></div>

Word of advice: if you're changing class to play a tank with your friends, do yourself a favour and pick another class. You will be sorely disappointed with your tanking ability compared to any plate tank. If you want a tank thats fun to play, play a berserker (or maybe a paladin).<div></div>

i have to dissagree with the above comment, thru t5, t6 and t7 i have tanked for pick up groups and also friend/guild groups with out to many problems, as long as you keep youre armour good and CA's at least adpt 1 i dont see any reason why you should'nt pick a monk to play, the only time we have any real problems as far as i can tell if trying to tank (some?) raid content.<div></div>

My monk has had no problems tanking. Monks take a little more skill to tank with (heck brawlers in general) than plate tanks, but properly played and geared we can tank just as well. Also, HaginNetherblade, the OP already stated he HAS DECIDED to make a monk or bruiser so try being constructive in regards to the topic at hand. This is a monk board. There's no sense comming here whining "don't make a monk".</div><p>Message Edited by Quijonsith on <span class=date_text>08-02-2006</span> <span class=time_text>11:38 AM</span>
dont know about u all but i'll choose my zerk with that nice fabled and legendary mig than the leather. My monk can take well to but leather aint the best thing to have a bunch of 3 arrows beating on u with. Though between the two classes id pick monk, you can buff urself with incredible attack speeds, as well as heal anyone in a grp where as a bruiser heals only himself, which doesnt help when ur healer of mt is going down.<div></div>
