The race that interests you the most. Seriously, they all have their own perks and quirks that they bring to the class; some get defense boosts, some get stat boosts over and above the ones everyone gets as they level (particularly fond of half-elves' Dual Breed trait myself), some get to summon food/drink...

<DIV>Honestly, whatever you like the best. It ends up balancing out later on in the game. </DIV>

<DIV>The great thing about EQ2 (mechanically speaking) is that there really is very little difference between the races. Choosing one race over another may offer a SLIGHT advantage when you start your character and I do mean SLIGHT. Even this negligable advantage (or disadvantage depending on your point of view) is all but gone after a few levels. Like before you leave noob island. Just as an example, at the end-game when you've got a STR of 500 do you think +5 STR from the OGRE's racial trait will have any real impact on how good a tank or scout your character makes? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This affords the player the choice of races based on aesthetics and/or role-playing needs. You think those dark elves make a sexy Defiler? Got a thing for the scaley Iksar warlocks? Can't get enough of those dashing gnome monks? Play whichever one you want, as any class you want. You'll never really notice the difference past level 8, if you can even tell before that.</DIV>

Humans definitely. Frogloks look cool when they fight, though.<div></div>

<DIV>I like what Surly_Smurf said. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I play a Dwarf Monk and absolutely LOVE IT!!! :smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Frogloks are also very cool with some of their monk fighting animations. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just boils down to what the others have already said, play what YOU WANT to play.</DIV>

<P>If you really want a unique look, try a erudite! The only problem with playing a erudite s that their main racial stat is Intelligence, which we never use as monks (or rarely). They are fairly weak, basically all their stats are geared to casting spells. I'm not saying it will be impossible, but your early life will require some of the best equipment you can get (fortunately T6 is when things get really expensive). That wil mean boosting your stamina, your strength and a slight boost to agility, but then that will increase with you as a monk. Wisdom should be okay, but do not increase your intel at all!</P> <P>Other races, humans and iksar are old school uber monks in EQ1, still are quite good, Wood Elves, Frogloks, Dwarves and Half Elves make good monks, Barbarians are good monks with their strength (but make better bruisers IMO), High Elves is another interesting choice to make, low strength but good wisdom and average agility. Any of the good races will make a decent choice, when you choose to play evil, u have to start off as a bruiser and then betray. Hope that helps!</P>

I want with the Hafling monk, back in the day when EQII was just starting off I was probably one of the rarest combos. But now it seems they have grown "just slightly" back then...there was sure alot of gnome monks xD <div></div>

I firmly believe that WTFComics is to blame for the initial rash of gnome monks. ("Waist-Down Fist, attack!") :smileytongue:

<DIV>I made a Dark Elf Monk myself. I figured since I went through betrayal, it would be rare. Sadly, I had multiple people tell me they knew of various DE Monks afterward. I checked eq2 census, and there like 75 other DE monks on AB. :smileytongue: Oh well. I think Teir'Dal are the most played race anyway.</DIV>

<P>I made a Ratonga Monk (Yes I had to betray - The old Heroic Betrayal Quest not the wimpy one now).</P> <P>Why I choose Ratonga, racially because I wanted to build a Maxxed out Agi type Monk and the Ratonga had Agi increase and Swift/Scurry for raising defense/parry. and the fact they look insufferably cute. I concentrated on AGI/Sta/Str. I wanted survivability, the DPS was fine as a Brawler that the extra damage dew to jacking strength did out weigh how often you gotten hit IMO. Having now 70.0% Avoidance without group buffs and without Fabled/Relic Equipment by concentrating making Sure my AGI at it's best is great to me and equip/weapons with +defense or +deflection on them. Yes I Raid but as DPS not MT or MA. As for Damage it's fine with piercing damage and Critical Hit raised in my AA line that I choose to finish off with Defelection/Parry AA skills... works for me.</P> <P>If I made another choice it would of been a Barbarian Brusier with good STA and a balance of Str/Agi, make him at least Tank some Epics... but be easier with a Guardian. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P> </P> <P> </P>

<P>I think what this is coming down to is Play a race/class combo you'll have lots of fun with, because in the end Stat wise differnce will be small.</P> <P> </P>

The one you enjoy looking at the most. That's about it. Frogloks have spiffy animations as monks. I picked a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] cat for the AGI bonus. Now AGI is one of my lowest stats and I do just fine.... but I have to deal with coughing up hairballs. Good thing for petrified XXXXXXX eyes, I can change my look for a raid <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

Although you have probably read it in almost every response here, the best choice is one that you think would be cool looking for you. Remember you are gonna be looking at that toon for a long time, the racial abilities of each are negligable so I would not go off of stat bonus' alone.Frogloks look cool doing monk moves!<div></div>

Any brawler who isn't a half-elf is [Removed for Content], by default. Half elves own brawling so much that most people reroll or use HE illusion eyes. True story.

<div></div>I've now got two monks, the first one was a froglok because - as has been mentioned - they animate wonderfully as monks <span>:smileyhappy:</span> She's since been relegated to being my tailor (yes, she <span>:smileytongue:</span> rerolled it as female as the male froglok looks too stocky for a monk imo).My new favourite toon is definitely my halfling monk though.<span></span> One thing I recommend above all else is to wear a Gi as often as possible. It's all about having a character you like playing - as has, also, been mentioned <span>:smileytongue:</span> - and running round looking like a druid with an attitude certainly never helped me connect with my toon <span>:smileywink:</span><div></div>
