View Full Version : AA Progression - (And PvP)

<DIV>Let me start off my introducing myself.  Currently I play a level 20 Monk on Nagafen.  I also have a level 41 Fury (Freeport) and a level 31 Swashbuckler on the server.  I have played (and retired) a bruiser to level 38 a coercer to 44 and various others to 30 or so that have been deleted to make my characters on the PvP servers.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The monk of course is very similar to the bruiser I have, and I've forgotten how much fun they can be (read feign death).  Its a very different story when it comes to PvP of course, as "mobs" don't forget about you, but thats half the fun!  PvP is definately a group sport when playing a monk but thats for a different thread.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is not meant to be yet another thread about which aa's are the best dps at level 70, or what the "cheapest" (Str line) aa's are.  Its meant to be a progression chart, or suggestions on which will help the lowbies more.  I normally solo pve or do instances as groups can be trying at times.  I know that as a level 20 character I will not be seeing a lot of AA's until my 50's or higher so I have to take that into consideration when I select them.  AA's in my opinion, at least until I have 40-50 of them, are not deal breakers and won't adjust the class much.  But as I don't want to be spending large amounts of cash in the future I would like to be able to plan out which line I'm either going to use until I have 50, or just stick the points where I will want them at level 70.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There don't seem to be a lot of thoughts on PvP aa's, although they may not differ considerably from PvE ones, and there really isn't any on progression - what I should choose before I have them all available to me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Some people are of the opinion that the strength line, for example, isn't worth it until you are able to have at least 4-16 (depending on who I've talked to in game or seen posts about) in it.  I can only assume this is for the double attack/dps boost.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I will say that I'm not terribly impressed with the agility line, and I haven't seen much posted about it so I have a feeling no one else is.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm considering Int/Wis lines for final picks but really have no idea.  Regardless of what I pick for a final choice - no doubt before I get there, plenty of people will be parsing and posting about what they have, I'd like to know what others think about choices they would make with 6 aa's (1 - Mandatory, 4 - Stat, then the 1st of...what?) through about 15 or 16, when people are stating str is a good choice, or at least other options are available.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>(Please keep in mind I'm on a PvP server, although once again this isn't a deal breaker).  Knowing that I can solo for 7-10 aa's easily enough by level 30, I should be able to get at least 1 of the 2nd rank in any line.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>--Edit--</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In the thread labeled Achievements and PvP, it makes mention that a final pick of:</DIV> <DIV> <P>INT 4-4-8-8-1</P> <P>Stam 4-4-4-5</P> <P>would be a good choice in pvp.  However, it also mentions that until you are able to spend 29-32 into the INT line, to hold off on doing so.  So where do I spend it in the meantime?  Do I start with STR, then go into INT, or start at STA and then into INT, or something else?  At what point does STR become worthwhile to drop the weapons?  Perhaps I should start another class like a mystic where all the AA's are pointless!</P></DIV> <DIV>Flame on!</DIV><p>Message Edited by Noruh on <span class=date_text>05-15-2006</span> <span class=time_text>09:36 AM</span>

Not sure how you manage to get 7-10 aa's by level 30. Could you let me know?Because I try to do tons of quests/explore and etc, and I'm almost to aa # 2 and I'm lvl 29 on pvp server. Please let me know cuz it's rediculously slow for me.

<DIV>It is very possible to get that with discovery exp. Go around to every zone in the game, you should get 5-8 points just from that.</DIV>

<DIV>As for me, I will probably be going with 24 points into INT and 24 into STA and will be picking the final abilities for each. I did not go this route on my 70th pve bruiser. Reason being, in pvp utility matters more and the more skills you have the better your chances of survival are.</DIV>

Can anyone comment on the specific end-ability usefulness in pvp?  The STA line looks like the most useful for catching any runners, but I couldn't imagine INT being of much use.  If I get that low in pvp I'm just one shot of a spell away from dying anyway.  However the INT attack skill is getting a root in the next update which would be a huge help in pvp, although it will probably be quite short. <div></div>

<P>Yup, exploration all the way.  At level 20 you can get 4-5 adventure levels plus aa's.</P> <P>Back to the question on hand though.  Assuming I do the INT and STA line, which would be preferable to get first?  As I said, no doubt I'll be around 10 for the next 10-20 levels...or isn't anything that striking?</P>

Little off topic, but do you get the same amount of achievement XP for discoveries no matter your lvl? Or will I get less for say visiting a new place in TS when I'm 35 as compared to  being lvl 20? <div></div>

I would assume that it is a set amount of exp, so you may see 8% at level 20 for an exploration point and only 3% at level 35, but it should still be the same (unseen) number of exp.  Of course, proving that could be difficult.

I see no reason not to start the intelligence line with only 5 points to put into it. The Intelligence is only helpful with proc damage (I'm not sure if increasing intelligence improves the damage of Mantis Bolt, but it will improve Glimmering Strike, or whatever that strike power is called on the player crafted items), but if you're using fists, the power that turns an enemy around will be useful from the first point you put into it. Then criticals, and parry, all good from the first AA in them. With Strength you see the benefit from the First-Fourth AA points, but then nothing until the 12th point you spend on it.<div></div>
