How much does difference +5 defence make to a Monk ?

I've been reading a lot all over the forums about the strengths of Bruisers and Monks. Racial traditions seem to be being ignored, but it seems to me the evil side has a small strength with Ogres having one tradition that adds plus 5 defence permanently and also the timed ability to give themselves another 5 defence for a limited time each half hour. That would seem a hefty bonus (+10) to a tanking class, especially a DPS class.   Of course humans can get similar, but slightly smaller benefit.</P> <P>Does defence just affect whether th mob hits you, or mitigation or something else ?</P> <P> </P> <P>Thanks again.</P>

<DIV>They changed defense awhile ago to be just straight avoidance.  Adding defense adds avoidance to your base score %.  Its not a very good way to add avoidance anymore, deflection and parry are better.</DIV>
