View Full Version : Halfling monk
Are Halfling monks a viable choice? The reason I ask is because I have a swashbuckler that I made last week and he soloed the instance with the dark elf and the totems at the end of the newbie island piece of cake but I made a halfling monk today and he keeps dieing over and over trying to solo that instance. Will I run into problems as a Halfling Monk?<div></div>

It's not that he is a halfling, its that he is a monk. While monks are great soloers later on when SoE redid the lower classes they didn't do too well reflecting the power of higher level monks in the lower levels. If you use that one instance to determine class power, my fury would be more powerful than a conj or monk as she had the easiest time. And well, thats just not true.<div></div>
I got to thinking that maybe it was my level too. I don't recall what level I was when I did it with the Swashbuckler. One level higher could make all the difference.<div></div>

<div>A Halfling monk is a very viable choice. I am a Dwarf Monk, currently level 67. I have no problems tanking if needed, being MA for raids if needed, being DPS when needed etc. etc. </div><div> </div><div>You'll do just fine and you'll have more fun while doing it!! :smileyhappy:</div>

<div></div><p>I'm a wood elf monk and still tanking, soling, dps'n fine at 62. When i played test server in the new newb area's the monk was pretty weak. I did a little test then to see diffs.</p><p>Did this test at level 5 with all same gear on each toon ( starting gear only ). Tested against solo con mobs of even level. Kept fighting with no regen time inbetween till i had to stop for hp reasons.</p><p>Monk i could take 2 mobs on before having to stop. Wood elf</p><p>Bruiser could take on five before having to stop. Dark elf</p><p>Dirge even one mob could be risky ( now they have a lil nuke that helps em alot more) Dark elf</p><p>Necro could take on seven mobs. Dark elf</p><p>THose only ones i tested. And as you can see i used elfs and between bruiser and monk there is a diff but thats more between the CA dmg's, not the actual race chosen. While it looks bad for the monk at those levels thier CA's kinda blow compared to others. But i think they have made em a little better now starting out. But like everyone else says, dont judge the class durning the first few levels cuase it changes alot once you get up in levels and get some better CA's and self buffs. </p>

<div></div><div>My main, Jathimas just dinged 64 monk. He is a halfling and he MT'ed his way through most of the 50's versus the cyclops wearing a Gi for the looks no less! So don't give up :smileyhappy:</div>

<div></div>This will sound silly, but what of an ogre or troll as a monk? I was thinking of starting one up and choosing a race that had to betray first.

<div>I have a lvl 64 halfling bruiser and absolutely love him. While other classes might be considered stronger classes for the brawlers, I think halflings are very viable due to their racial traits. I am able to raise my avoidance as well as pick up Distracting Hoax (or whatever it is called). The latter is very nice especially in raids to avoid aggro as it is a 2500 point detaunt at my level. </div><div> </div><div>I believe all classes are viable. I made a halfling and betrayed to bruiser just as a joke to start with. After playing him for a bit I realized how much fun I was having beating the crap out of things as the little guy in the group... just seems to always make me laugh. I am sure as a monk this race is just as viable.</div><div> </div><div> </div>
Thanks, I'm going to stick with the Halfling monk then. I think that I look so cool in the newbie monk outfit with my belly hanging out.Cheers!
