<DIV>Hello Everybody.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am a newbie to EQ2 and I have a Level 28 Monk and I enjoy playing him. I have read most all the threads in this forum and read very carefully all the FAQs on the forum.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have read where players reference certain words in their discussion but it's hard to understand what they are trying to say when you really don't have a good understanding what the word/term means.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Would somebody please explain what these terms/words mean? How each works for your Monk or against your enemy?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1. <STRONG><U>Hate</U></STRONG> (Is this another word for "Taunt" to get/keep aggro?)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2. <U><STRONG>Haste</STRONG> </U>(Is this kinda-sorta like how "mad" you are towards your enemy?)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3. <U><STRONG>Proc</STRONG> </U>(have no idea??)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4. <U><STRONG>Ripostes</STRONG> </U>(have no idea??)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Not only do I need to know what each term/word means, but if you could kinda-sorta use examples to help clarifiy would be greatly appreciated.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I enjoy reading the threads on this forum and it has helped me out alot. Just these 4 terms are kinda confusing to me and I'm sure confusing to other up-coming newbies.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks </DIV> <DIV>Azod - lvl 28 Monk</DIV> <DIV>Butcherblock Server</DIV> <P>Message Edited by hiLLbiLLyTX on <SPAN class=date_text>01-04-2006</SPAN> <SPAN class=time_text>10:45 AM</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by hiLLbiLLyTX on <span class=date_text>01-04-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:46 AM</span>

In laymans terms...very non technical.... <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hate- the more the enemy mob hates you, the more it will concentrate on killing you so it acts as a taunt in that way. A taunt just generates hate. Think of it this way...lets say ur walking around and you see a guy that just spit on you....you now are angry at him. Lets sy that now as you confront him he starts taunting you with things like....you don't have the guts to hit me...or what ever...now you are really focused even more.....get it?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Haste- haste makes ur auto attacks better by making them faster. The higher the haste the more you are able to throw offensive attacks without having to use your spell keys. Haste really means in dictionaries something like fast....."come here post haste!"</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Proc- probably means "probobility of calculation" or something like that...it is the percentage chance that ur spell will go off. So a weapon you have has a spell that procs...meqans the spelll that did the extra damage ro whatever actually went off. Things proc one outa blank chances...so not everytime.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Ripostes- That is a counter attack hitting you back. You hit a mob, it can sometimes riposte a blow right back to you for damge on you. You can avoid that by hitting a mob on the side or the back for the most part. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Others wil have better answers most likely but this may get you over the hump til they respond.</DIV>

<P>EDIT - what ^^ said hehe. Took too long typing mine I guess. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P> </P> <P>Hate is related to taunting and keeping aggro on a mob. If I'm right (my def. might not be correct but I know what it means), it has to do with damage and taunts on a mob. Every mob has a "hate list", which is basically a list of PCs that is engaging it. Your position on that hate list determines where it attacks. If you're number 1, then it's on you. If you're number 2, you're next if #1 goes down. You move up the list by outdamaging the others, taunting the mob, debuffs, healing, mezzing, etc. Some classes do have spells/combat arts that allow you to drop a level or reduce your hate with that mob. So say you're in a group and you've just started a fight. The tank goes to work, but say a Wizard/Warlock/whoever lays down a big nuke or huge pile of damage right off the bat. That puts them at the top of the list with a bullet, and the mob will go after them unless it can be taunted off. I hope that's right.</P> <P>Haste is a spell that increases your rate of attack. This is available either through spells/combat arts, or as an effect on a weapon or piece of armor (like the Flowing Black Silk Sash). It will make you attack faster by whatever percentage is specified. The FBSS gives a 21% increase. I'm not exactly sure on how the math works on the delay of the weapons, but there are a lot of threads about it and the haste cap (the maximum percentage your attack speed can be increased) as well as haste stacking (how haste from different sources is added up).</P> <P>A proc (short for "process"? - can't remember) is an effect on an item that has a certain percent chance to trigger during combat. If it triggers, that spell will be cast. For example, the imbued weapons all have a 5% chance to trigger a spell that will damage the mob you're fighting. Other effects can be haste, or healing (like the imbued chest pieces), etc. They can trigger once, many times, or not at all during a fight.</P> <P>A riposte is basically when an attack is turned back on the attacker. What happens is the attack is blocked, so you would take no damage, but the enemy would be hit with a counterattack. Both players and mobs can riposte, and I believe there are combat arts that allow a player to automatically riposte all attacks for a short time (I'm pretty sure Monks get it, but not sure about other classes). I think they changed it so that any attack in front of you can be riposted. Used to be just in a narrow range directly in front of you, but I think it's now the front 180 degrees.</P> <DIV>I hope that helps you. I'm sure others will be able to clarify, correct, and contribute to what I've said. Like I said, I basically know how this stuff works, but if anyone knows more on these subjects then by all means please join in. I'm always learning new things around here.</DIV><p>Message Edited by Rukarrn on <span class=date_text>01-04-2006</span> <span class=time_text>11:00 AM</span>

<P>Thx Pnaxx & Ruxarrn</P> <P>You guys have been very helpful and now that I know the terms, it all falls in place for me now...Hooray!</P> <P>One of you mentioned to avoid ripostes, attack the mob from the side or back. I can understand that if the mob is not aggressive, but once the mob is on you, they always turn and face you if you try to hit them from the side or from the back.</P> <P>When I fight a mob, I just stand there and "duke" it out. I have tried running circles around them and hit a CA but most CA's won't cast if your moving. Will the "haste" auto-attacking skills still hit in motion? I'm at work right now or I would load the game and try it.</P> <P> </P> <P>thx again</P> <P>Azod</P>

<P>If your solo or the tank in a group, its always "toe to toe", unless you can stun and move behind the mob for the next CA. If your in a group, generally the best place to be is behind the mob to avoid ripostes and AoEs.</P> <P> </P>

<P> </P> <P>I'll take a stab at this:</P> <BLOCKQUOTE> <DIV>1. <STRONG><U>Hate</U></STRONG> (Is this another word for "Taunt" to get/keep aggro?)</DIV> <DIV>Hate is a numeric value that represents how much the mob wants to kill you. Taunting raises this, so does just about everything else, by some amount. The easiest example is to look at any taunt skill where it says 'raises hate by 286' or what have you.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2. <U><STRONG>Haste</STRONG> </U>(Is this kinda-sorta like how "mad" you are towards your enemy?)</DIV> <DIV>Haste is always rated as a percentage, and is applied to your weapon's delay. If your weapon's delay is 2, at 100% haste it would attack at a delay of 1. 50% haste would be 1.5, and so on. Haste caps at 100% and weapon delays can never go below 0.8</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3. <U><STRONG>Proc</STRONG> </U>(have no idea??)</DIV> <DIV>I think this goes way back... to the days of telnet and MUDs (that's another story) where these types of things were called spec_procs or Special Procedures (it's a programming thing). For the purposes of EQ2, it's an affect that is granted from ant item or combat art, but is not always active. Something triggers the affect, usually only a percentage of the time the triggering conditions are met. Imbued weapons and armor are an easy example.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4. <U><STRONG>Ripostes</STRONG> </U>(have no idea??)</DIV> <DIV>This is a term from fencing, it's like a parry, where you use your weapon to block the enemy's attack. However in a riposte you not only block their attack, but are able to hit them with your weapon in the process.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV></BLOCKQUOTE><BR> <p>Message Edited by Rrawl on <span class=date_text>01-04-2006</span> <span class=time_text>11:51 AM</span>

<div></div>Don't hit the tab key followed by a space or you'll wind up submitting the form. leave the tab key alone and you should be fine.also I think "proc" is short for "procedural" - meaning that a procedure is run to determine if the effect is applied or not.<div></div><p>Message Edited by Sandheaver on <span class=date_text>01-04-2006</span> <span class=time_text>02:35 PM</span>

They will cast while moving I assure you. I can usually stay behind the mob for a few good seconds at a time dishing out my big cas before the mob recovers and turns back around.I do this when tanking sometimes to avoid the mobs blows entirely. It takes some practice, but it's really a very powerful strategy for avoiding damage. Some group members assume i've lost agro because the mob is no longer facing me. Little to they know. :p<div></div><p>Message Edited by x0rtrunks on <span class="date_text">01-04-2006</span><span class="time_text">10:40 PM</span></p><p>Message Edited by x0rtrunks on <span class=date_text>01-04-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:41 PM</span>

Yes I do it in groups, but it doesn't have the effect I think you're hinting at.First I turn the mob for the group, so that everyone is in position. Then I start the stun dance. I move but the mob still faces the same direction. When I'm done, I move back, and the mob hasn't moved at all. Some people assume that because I've moved they will have to change position too, but once I explain what's going on, nothing is different for anyone else.<div></div>
