Ive decided to come back to EQ2 after a short break from the game. I had a level 22 monk on a server before pre LU17. How have they changed? I had fun back then with my monk but switched to a different server and started playing a Pally (bleh, since LU17). Ill be starting over from the bottom rung when I do this and figured I would say hi and see what the community had to say.

I see from the FAQ that we are still good soloers, this is good since most of my time will be solo. Little kids tend to keep you afk alot lol. Hope to hear from you all. I love to read the different opinions and techniques everyone contributes. Now I just have to figure out if I want to make my toon On AB or find a different server.....

Oh, and whats everyones take on a crafting profession...Im torn. Making armor for myself, or potions for healing....heck, weapons to.....dang its a hard choice!

Aye monks are really nice. Solo or tank no problem. As for myself I am a 45 provisioner atm cause food and drink can be expensive. I dont farm enough $$ to always be buying food, so I make my own stuff :smileywink:

Welcome back to the game!

Monks are a blast to play, and the changes seem pretty positive. I am very happy with my monk, soloing, grouping, and as MT. Also, we have one of the best communities I think, lots of friendly knowledgeable folks who are willing to share information. Be sure to join the monk channel when you start up again.

Regarding tradeskilling, I am pretty lucky in that my guild has at least one person 50+ (most 59 or 60), in every tradeskill class. So if I need food, armor, weapons, etc, it is not a problem. As a result, Quij is a Carpenter (my other main, Xyla, is a level 60 Woodworker). But if I were alone and counting on only myself for goods, I would likely go provisioner (because you need food and drink constantly) or tailor so I could make my own armor, pouches and bags. Alchemist might be an option as well to make your own App IV and Adept III combat arts, but Adept 1's and even Master 1's seem to be in abundance on broker (at least on my server), so not such an urgent need.

Best wishes with your new monk!

Quijana

Lost Coast Privateers, Nektulos

Whats down time like for the monk? My choice is a difficult one. Im torn between this profession and warden. Both seem so cool and I only have time to play one toon atm.

Monk (from what I remember anyway) seemed more straight forward, beat anything that moved. Even back then I didnt know about throwing weapons so I probably made life difficult for myself by not useing them. Hopefully I will be able to make up my mind, choose a server (or stay with AB) and actually start playing.

Down time? What down time? Level 57 with food and drink I kill almost non-stop... solo. In a duo I do every once in a while there is no such thing as down time. If you like tradeskills or are looking to try them at any time I always suggest starting with a trade that will help you... IE for a Monk Tailor- Amor, Woodworker- Weapons, Alchemist- Skill upgrades Apprentice 4/Adept 3s, Provisioner a popular one-Food/Drink. Lotsa choices.

Have fun.

There's downtime in eq2? /boggle

Downtime? What downtime?

I only have little downtime when I go after groups of yellow mobs or I get distracted in a fight and take too much hits before killing the mob. But no real downtime. Just check out the next mob or plunder a hack away a nearby node.. (where are my rares?)

Whoa, Whoa whoa !!! Downtime? Ok seriously, was this during one of the LU's or something? I should really read the update notes more often. Seriously though, with a monk there really isn't a whole lot of downtime, when I was mid 50's I would tank up at the Cyclops in PoF and just chain pull the groups, I felt bad for the healers and casters though, they didn't seem like they could keep up with my pace. :smileywink:

So far (just hit level 10) Im not feeling like I can solo to the descriptions I read on this board. Is the real solo difference noticable when I hit lvl 20 and actually obtain the Monk title? Ill give you an instance, I was in Oakmyst Forest killing bear cubs. At level 8 It was a very close fight. I needed to rest after every fight so I could take on another bear. Once I hit level 9 I broke down and bought App 2's of all my combat arts. This helped a little but I will still needing to rest after a fight.

Just as a side note. I did drink and eat and used heroic opps at every opportunity. My weapon was the sword you get for your citizenship quest. I plan on upgrading that now that I hit level 10. Hope this is enough info. Im sure Im just expecting to much for such a low level character but I would like to get everyones opinion here to see if I may be doing something wrong. :smileyhappy:

Keep in mind that right now at under 10...ur just a fighter like every fighter.

after lvl 10 it gets better. Try to kill green mobs till lvl 10, you have less downtime and so get more xp in the end I think. Also do lot's of quests. They give money and some pretty good xp, armor parts and even weapons that you can use.

I managed to get to level 12. After I hit level 10 and finished my Brawler quest I went back to Oakmyst. I did the quest "Proof of Oakmyst Poachers" and got a nice Staff. (Oakmyst Staff DMG: 9-24 INT +1, STR +1, HP +2, PP+2). Since then my combat ability has improved greatly. Im able to take white mobs out no prob with no down time at all. Yellows are a bit of challenge and depending on how many misses I have can lead to a bit of down time for healing.

All in all I think I am doing alot better. Now if I could just get more vitality so leveling wont slow quite so much Ill be set. :smileyvery-happy:

Good food and drink will help here as well. Player made is best ( Outside of the rare quest ). Prob with that is cost of it. Depending on how long you play at any one time you can useualy find food and drink to match the time. I play alot and when I am on an EXP run use 5+ Hour food but you can find it for 30min and anywhere in between.

Good food and drink is a soloers dream for keeping any heal time down to the bear min.. Hehe and a good weapon or two helps.

Im glad to hear it picks up at 20. I am happy to say I am beating every poor little creature that crosses my path now. I have been out of vitality for a little while now and the leveling is steady. Im almost 15 now and hope to get a little bit into that before I have to head to bed for work (blah). Of course I need to put up a BB in my room so I can sell these adepts I have been collecting. :smileyvery-happy:

Glad to hear you doing fine. The board helps getting some extra Silver if you find buyers. Make sure you check the NPC for how much you can drop the loot there and the other sellers on the broker so you get a decent price for your loot.

If you can afford, put the largest boxes into your hause vault so you have plenty of room to sell that loot you don't need for yourself.

Keep up and be assured, the higher you get, the stronger you become. Monks rule!!
