Over the past couple days I've been compilling as much relevant uptodate monk information as I could. It's not a redo of the existing faq, but more of supplement to it with up to date info for LU13 and beyond. It's also a listing of relevant threads. It's still a work in progress, but it's got most of the most frequently asked questions covered. I'll be adding more, and would like to get some feedback and criticism and where you'd like to see it head. So if i've missed something, or got something wrong, let me know. I didn't cover many things in detail in the faq because there are great threads that do a good job of discussing them already. Eventually I'll summerize those threads and add it to the faq itself.Once again, I don't really intend for it to replace the existing faqs (at least not right away), but rather compliment them with updated info and links to discussions. You can check it out here: The New Monk FAQ!

Updated same time as the edit time stamp below:

Message Edited by x0rtrunks on 01-03-2006 10:55 PM

Thanks. I'll keep updating it until it contains everything a monk needs to know. I'd appreciate it if you guys and gals could mention anything I've forgotten thus far, maybe with links to relavent threads. I'll go digging tomorrow and try to at least get a good framework setup. Thanks again.

I just read thru the new faq. Just a few quick notes: Our single target taunt timer is 8 seconds and group is 20 seconds. In the next update applied procs, anything thats not an imbue or inherent weapon ability, will only work off our primary weapon. Nice lot of information you have there tho

Thanks. Consider it updated. So that will limit our proc agro to be basically equal between dw and 2hb. Interesting.

I've made a rather large update to the faq, and I need your help to flesh out some information.Check out the FAQ and look at the weapon and armor section (force a reload on your browser if it doesn't look any different).I'm looking for information on the names of rare harvest or dropped equivilents from each tier.Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd really like to see some information on the best partner class for duo-ing with a monk. Common popular choices seem to be Wardens or Furies (with pros and cons to each) or either of the Shaman classes. I'm still puzzling out which of these priest paths to take with my wife's new monk, and would love some advice.

Awesome guide...

The only part I have a question on is.

Dual Wield is a more expensive option (need 2 weapons), and will do slightly more damage and generate more hate. It is the best choice for DPS role. The downside is that since you are swinging 2 weapons instead of 1, you will get more ripostes.

I would have sworn I read in a update notes or dev posting that DW'ing would actully repost less. Anyone remember reading that?? I can't seem to find it.
Edited: ok found this.

http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=stat&message.id=212

*** Items ***
- Dual-wield weapons now do additional damage, since they miss more auto-attack chances when using spells and combat arts. They also have a better chance to trigger their proc effects.
- Fast weapons with a low delay are now less likely to cause a defender to riposte than slower weapons with a long delay.

I would assume by this since DW are pretty fast weapons that this statement would apply. But I supose even though its less, you still have 2 of em.... Anyways anyone else's thoughs??

Message Edited by Sa'meria on 12-27-200512:28 PM

Message Edited by Sa'meria on 12-27-2005 12:28 PM

Yes. That is correct. But if you were to parse the actual fights, you'd see yourself taking more damage from dual wielding. If you were using only 1 DW weapon and compared that to a 2hb, you'd probably see them being fairly equal depending on delay. Add another DW weapon and you're now swinging twice as much each round. Also keep in mind that not all DW weapons are faster than all 2hb weapons. Cestii is 2.0, bo staff is 1.7. Keeping this in mind, you can see that it's not just DW weapons that this change applies to. Before these changes, all those ripostes from DW were really hurting us, because they generally have the lowest delay, and you're swinging two of them each round. This made DW suck in comparison to 2hb. These changes were intended to bring DW on par with 2hb, which it now is. Try it yourself. See if you notice a difference. In my trials, DW fights were shorter because i did more damage faster, but I also ended up taking more damage compared to the same mob fights with a 2hb. 2hb fights were a bit longer, and i ended up taking less damage. For this reason I generally use 2hb for soloing and DW for dpsing. I switch up DW and 2hb for tanking depending on the mobs. BTW, using tsunami with a really high damage high delay 2hb should provide the greatest damage, but i haven't had a chance to test that out.

Message Edited by x0rtrunks on 12-27-2005 10:48 AM

Message Edited by x0rtrunks on 12-27-2005 10:49 AM

You could also include regular maces in your dual wield metal weapon category. Currently, you have knuckles and rods, then great mace for 2HB.

Just a minor nitpick provided if you feel like adding that in on your next pass. The outline organization and thread referencing in this document is excellent.

I'll hopefully be making another revision to the FAQ in the next couple days. I'll include everything mentioned thus far since the last update, and hopefully I'll be able to add some in-document links to be able to jump to the different sections from an index. I'll probably also add in more info from the original FAQs and maybe rearange the content a bit to make it all fit better/more logically.Keep up the feedback.

Jessyme, I didn't add that info, but it'll be here in this thread at least. It's more weapon info than monk info, but still useful.I've added a table of contents to the faq that makes it a bit easier to navigate and find what you're looking for. I've been using word to manage the document, but it seems to have some inconsistencies in style and formating. It also produces overly large and bloated documents. Eventually I'd like to redo the whole thing in hand coded html, but that's a project for another day when it's finished.

If you're a monk forum regular you might have noticed my lack of posting lately. I'm taking a bit of a break from EQ2 and may never return!! *pause for emphasis* But there is yet much work to be done in service of the monk community. More and more young monks come tot he forums every day seeking answers. I started the FAQ as an easy way to keep the info organized and easily referenceable, but it only works when it's being kept up to date. I don't have time lately to keep up with it, and would like to find someone who does to take over it's maintenence. Any takers?

I apologise in advance if this breaks the page, and for bad formatting. I was going to put it on a new page, but have been getting a little too wrapped up in the game to take the time to format things properly. If someone else wants to take the initiative, go ahead...dunno when I'll get to it.Be advised that some of this is very out of date, so when we get around to it, we should update.__________The new Monk F.A.Q.Updated: 1/4/2006 * IntroductionThis FAQ is meant to be a supplement to the existing monk FAQs that are getting slightly out of date. A lot changed in the combat update, and this FAQ aims to answer most of the questions a new or old monk might have from lvl 1 to lvl 60. Where possible, it contains links to existing forum threads that discuss many of the most common questions a monk might have. Please read the FAQ and related threads before posting a new thread in the monk forum: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board?board.id=6 A wealth of information can be found in the existing FAQs and these great threads:General FAQ: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=16776Tanking/DPS FAQ: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=19157Monk Skill List: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=21763Monk Master II List: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24827Gi List: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=22788A lot of good information can also be found in the bruiser forums: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board?board.id=7Generally, the information in this FAQ is most up-to-date and reflects the most recent live update changes. Eventually this FAQ will absorb all relevant information contained within the existing FAQs minus the out of date pre-LU13 information. I’d like to thank everyone that’s contributed information and advice to the monk boards. Monks make very good tanks, especially in single target encounters. Monks are avoidance-based tanks, meaning they survive by avoiding damage all together. However, this does not mean that mitigation is not important for a monk. Avoidance is streaky in nature, meaning that a run of bad luck will leave you hurting. Mitigation will absorb part of the blows that do manage to land on you.http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=21754http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=26109 a href=http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25532Here’s a good thread on some tanking basics * How does a monk hold agro?Monks generate hate in 3 major ways, taunting, hate proc, and DPS. + Taunting – Monks have one single target taunt on a 8 sec timer, and one encounter wide group taunt on a 20 sec timer. These are good for establishing hate at the beginning of a fight or during pull, and for peeling mobs off group members. + Hate proc – Monks are the best fighters at holding single target agro due to our hate proc line of spells. This spell gives us a 50% chance to proc hate with every attack, both auto attack and CAs, of our primary weapon. Our high attack speed allows us to generate an insane amount of hate from auto attack alone.a href=http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23667 + DPS – In addition to the first two direct ways of hate generation, we also generate a major portion of our hate from DPS due to our high attack speed, and many damage CAs with stun/stifle properties. o How to hold agro in group encounters.Due to the fact that we only have one group taunt on a long timer, group agro is a weakness for monks. Group members will have to be especially careful at controlling their agro in these situations. A good tactic for gaining and maintain group agro is to start with your group taunt, making sure all mobs are in range. Follow this up with a combination of our AOE attack with our 8 hit damage proc (jolting hands). Group members should only start attacking after you have done this. This should put you on the top of the hate list right off the bat, and give you a better chance of maintaining it afterwards. To maintain agro, have your group /assist you and focus on a single target while you tab through the mobs, taunting and doing damage to each for a few seconds. I normally save my single target taunt for when I need to peel a mob, and just use group taunt as it refreshes. Having rescue at adept3 is a big help as well. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24033http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25405http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23284http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23043http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=22166 o What if I don’t want agro?!Our consistent DPS, fast attacks, and stuns/stifles tend to [Removed for Content] mobs off. When in a DPS role, we don’t really want the mob to turn on us.Make sure you have your taunt proc stance turned off. This is a sure way to pull unwanted agro. If that still doesn’t work, try pacing yourself more. Alternate high damage or burst CAs with low damage CAs. If you do pull agro, you can FD for a little while until the tank re-establishes agro. Be sure to stay down for at least 30 seconds so the MT can cycle their taunts.BEWARE: if you FD and you see the mob turn to a healer or other weaker dps instead of the MT, stand up and take some beats! You’ll fair much better than squishy casters. Defensive stance, our mitigation buffs, and tsunami can be life savers in these situations. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23965 Can a monk raid tank?Absolutely. A well-equipped and talented monk is just as capable as tanking as any other tank class. There may be situations where another tank is preferred, but there is nothing inherent in the monk class that makes them an unacceptable raid tank. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24814http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24342 Can a monk off tank?Monks make great off tanks, because they are great at peeling a single mob very quickly, and can hold their own for a while until the MT regains agro. Also, it is best to have a monk use their avoidance buff on the MT rather than anyone else due to their naturally high avoidance.See here: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23528 Can a monk DPS?Monks are primarily tanks, but can contribute decent DPS when not tanking. Our DPS lets us tear down a mob quickly, and our survivability lets us take a few blows. We have invis to get us through nasty areas, and FD to escape death and lose trains/adds. We have a heal and cure to keep us alive. We have many tricks up our sleeve to help our group. We’ve got feign death, self-invis, haste (self and group), high avoidance, a targetable heal, a self-cure, a self-ward, 12 seconds of 100% riposte/parry, a balanced stance, fashionable outfits, one hit kills, and more! o Monk skillsA comprehensive list of monk skills can be found here: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=21763 o Monks and hasteHaste is a monks specialty. As a monk, you get 3 distinct sources of haste that all stack; self-haste, group haste, stance haste. This allows us to get close to100% self-buffed haste very easily and very early on. + A bit about haste. # Stacking - We can stack haste from: our self-haste, our group haste, our stance haste, + proc haste + 1 item haste (whichever is highest) + haste spells from other classes. For example: Everburing Flame MasterII (self-haste) 30% + Wisdom of Zephyl MasterII 14% (group haste) + FBSS (item haste) 15% + Tranquil Blessing Adept3 (offensive stance) 31% = 90% haste. You can add to this enchanter and bard haste lines, as well as haste from an item proc, or HO effect. # Caps - The haste cap is 100%, meaning that if you have a weapon with 2.0-second delay, with 100% haste the delay would effectively be 1.0-second. There is also a delay cap of 0.8 seconds, meaning that no matter how much haste you have, you can never swing faster than once every 0.8 seconds. For this reason, a base weapon delay of 1.6 seconds is the sweet spot if you have 100% haste. At that delay, you would be using up all the headroom of both caps, allowing you to apply the max damage as often as possible. It is preferable to choose weapons with a delay of 1.6 or higher, but it is by no means necessary. You can be a fully functioning monk with a 1.4 delay weapon. + http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24904 + http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23437 + http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24688 o Monks and Feigh DeathMonks have the unique ability to feign death. This skill allows the monk to pretend to be dead. Mobs will think you are dead, and reset. Very handy for escaping death or avoiding a total group or raid wipe. If things go sour, you can just feign death, wait till the mobs have gone away, stand up, and revive your healer. At higher levels we also get a group feign ability, that lets us feign the whole group, potentially saving everyone’s bacon. + How FD works – Feign Death is a pass or fail skill. You either succeed, and fall over dead, or fail, and fall on your face. The skill is based on a percentage chance of success, meaning with each attempt, you have a 50% chance (example %) of successfully feigning. For group feign, each party member has their own chance of success; some may succeed, some may fail. o Monks and invisibilityMonks have the ability to invis themselves for a short duration. The ability is called wind walk. It consumes a small amount of power every tick. As long as you have power, you remain invisible. The regular rules of invis still apply. No run speed buffs, and certain mobs have see-invis abilities. A mob can see through your invis if you con grey to the mob, so beware of invising past high red con mobs. When you are invis, the names of mobs will show whether they can see you. A red outline means they can see you, no outline means they can’t.. o A monks unique tanking skillsMonks get two skills post-50 that make them very powerful in tanking and soloing situations. Tsunami, and outward calm. + Tsunami – is the monks most useful tanking ability next to our taunt proc. It allows the monk to riposte 100% of incoming melee attack in the frontal 180 degree arc, and 100% parry incoming melee attacks in the rear 180 degree arc for a full 12 seconds every 3 minutes. Gained at lvl 55. Tsunami is non-upgradeable, meaning that the adept1 is the same quality as the adept3 and master1 spells. They are only in game to give players multiple ways of gaining access to the ability. + Outward Calm – is a ~4000 hp magic ward that lasts for 15 seconds with a 1:30 min recast. Gained at lvl 52.Adept I wards caster against 3720 points of all magical damage.Adept III wards caster against 4340 points of all magical damage. o The monk cure line of spells. Will of the ____Monks gain the ability to remove certain status effects from themselves. This ability can be very useful in raid situations where healers are too busy to cure you. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25067 o Monks and stancesMonks are fortunate to get 3 types of stances rather than the standard 2. In addition to offensive and defensive, we also get a balanced stance at lvl 44 called spider stance. + Offensive stance: used for soloing and dpsing, as well as for tanking lower con mobs. + Defensive stance: used for tanking very hard mobs, or when you are taking a beating. If you are off tanking and need to peel a mob, switch to this stance and hit rescue. + Balanced stance: Our primary tanking stance, or for soloing hard mobs. This stance gives us half the benefits of both the defensive and offensive stances, without any of the negatives. Consider it an all around buff. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23524 o Monks and AvoidanceThe key factor that enables a monk to tank is their high avoidance. This thread talks a bit about how avoidance works and how effective it is.http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23635http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23517 + Why does my avoidance keep changing?!http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=22763 o Monk abilities from adventure packs. The Bloodlines Chronicles and The Splitpaw Sage both have unique abilities that are useful for monks. + Devastation Fist – From bloodlines, we have Devastation Fist. This ability allows the monk to kill weaker opponents with a single blow. It is non-upgradeable, and cannot be crafted, meaning you must own the bloodlines chronicles and complete the quests to obtain it.See info here: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/search?submitted=true&type=message&advanced=true&body_all=&q=devestation+OR+devastation+AND+fist&body_without=&page_size=20&author=&board_id= + Goading Gesture – From splitpaw, we have Goading Gesture. This is a single target taunt available to the fighter archetype. It shares the same reuse timer as our single target taunt. It is non-upgradeable and cannot be crafted, so you must own the splitpaw saga and have earned the trust of the gnolls in order to obtain it. This ability scales with level, meaning it gets more powerful as you level. The base hate is slightly lower than our single target taunt at each tier, but goading gesture has a 10% chance to double the amount of hate each time you use it. This can be a very useful addition to our taunting repertoire.http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25221 o What Master II should I choose? There is no definitive choice when it comes to picking master IIs. You’ll have to weigh the pros and cons, and choose those that fit your play style the best. One thing to keep in mind though, is that the haste Master IIs scale incredibly well for us. Wisdom of Zephyl and Everburning Flame will still be competitive until lvl 60 and allow you to get to ~70% max haste by lvl 32, and to ~85% haste at lvl 42 with an FBSS. Considering that haste is such an important part of a monks damage and hate generation, these are two very good choices. Comparison chart here: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24827 Advice here:http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24032http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=21963http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23167 o Monk fluff spellsFrom the FAQ: You can buy the fluff skills from trainers in the Elddar grove. They are located in a ruined building along the creek northeast of the Qeynos Harbor entrance. + Level 20: Silent Fist Kata: A series of animations to show off some of our martial arts moves + Level 40: Tiger Style: Shapeshifts the Monk into a tiger. Has no effect other than a visual change + Level 50: Radiance of the Silent Fist: Little glowing lights around the Monk. What tradeskill should I pick?Monks make use of many different tradeskillers for their goods, including: o Tailors for armor, hex dolls, thrown weapon items, and ammo bags. o Weaponsmiths for metal weapons, as well as cestii, cestus, and fist wraps which all use pelts. o Woodworkers for wooden weapons, totems. o Alchemists for spell upgrades (apprentice4 and adept3) o Jewelers for jewelry and buff rings o Provisioners for food and drink Which ever you choose, make sure you like doing it, and keep in mind that you must keep your tradeskill level almost 10 levels ahead of your adventure level to be able to make useful items for yourself. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25465http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23831http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23522http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=22947 What stats should I focus on?The main stat of fighters is strength, but all stats come into play in some way. For an in depth discussion, see this thread:http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24258 What should I upgrade? It’s generally a good idea to have a good weapon first, followed by a good breastplate and leggings. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=22903 o What about adepts? From lvl 1 to 30 you can get away with apprentice spells (app1, 2, 4). Maybe pick up adepts off the broker if they are cheap. Save you cash for food, bags, weapons, armour, jewelry first. After lvl 30, try and get at least adept1 for all your skills.Once you hit lvl 40ish, you should start harvesting rocks for rares to get some adept3s made. Start with stances, FDs, heals, buffs, etc before focusing on damage CAs. Damage CAs don’t scale very well. + Which 50+ adept3s?http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25045http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25570http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23981http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=22675 What armor or weapon should I use? o Dual Wield vs 2 Hand Blunt? The biggest factor in weapon choice should be cool factor. Choose a weapon that you think looks cool and fits your style. The difference in weapons isn’t as important as whether you like it or not. That said, there is actually very little practical difference between DW and 2hb, and even less difference between different weapons of a certain wield type. + Dual Wield is a more expensive option (need 2 weapons), and will do slightly more damage and generate more hate. It is the best choice for DPS role. The downside is that since you are swinging 2 weapons instead of 1, you will get more ripostes. + 2 Hand Blunt is a cheaper option (only need 1 weapon), and does adequate damage. The advantage of 2hb comes from the fact that you are only swinging one weapon each round. This means less ripostes while tanking and soloing. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24894http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23783http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23303http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24136http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23776http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23266 o What delay should I get?Due to our haste capping ability, it is generally agreed that you should aim for a delay of no less than 1.6 seconds. See the discussion on haste for reasoning. o Are bare fists an option? No, not really. Not for monks anyway. There are fist weapons that give the bare fisted look though. o Should I wear cloth or leather? The base avoidance for cloth armor is higher than leather, but the base mitigation for leather is higher. Mitigation is generally better than avoidance. The avoidance bonus from wearing cloth doesn’t make up for the loss of mitigation. Although the preference is entirely up to you. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25469http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23080 If you do choose cloth, or just want an alternate look to run around in, there are some example robes here:http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24344 o What are some good monk armor sets?Generally speaking, the rare crafted leather armor is superior in every tier. It has balanced stats and resists, good mitigation, and fairly easy to obtain with enough time and/or money.Plus, as an added bonus, the breast plate and leggings can be imbued to give you an added proc effect when you get hit. The BP can proc a small heal over time, and the legs can proc a reactive direct damage spell. Contact a tailor for more information. The rare armors follow the naming scheme of Pristine (imbued) <rare name> <weapon name> eg. bracers, gloves, shoulder pads, skull cap, leggings, boots, breast plate, etc.For example, Pristine Imbued Augmented Leggings, or Pristine Scaled Bracers. Tier Rare component names + 1 - Waxed Leather or Low Quality Pelt (not sullied) + 2 - Cured Leather or Average Quality Pelt (not sullied) + 3 - Cuirboilli Leather or Medium Quality Pelt (not sullied) + 4 - Engraved Leather or High Quality Pelt (not sullied) + 5 - Augmented Leather or Superb Quality Pelt (not sullied) + 6 - Scaled Leather or Excellent Quality Pelt (not sullied) Thanks to Rrawl for the info. “The lootable materials on examine will show Legendary, and will state specifically in the text that they can be used in tradeskills.” In addition to crafted, there are several quested or dropped sets of gear appropriate for a monk. § Level 1-20 – Basically anything you can get your hands on. Make sure each slot is filled and replace things with better as it becomes available from drops and quests.§ Level 20-30 – Once you hit level 20, you can start doing the Light armor quests given by Selwyn in South Qeynos. These quests will take you around antonica killing mobs for her. There are 6 quests in all, the last of which being a Gi. There will soon be changes to this armor and quest however.Guide: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=176§ Level 30-40 – If you don’t feel like harvesting rare pelts, or can’t afford it. You can get some decent quested and dropped gear. From an NPC named Hammer in Zek you can get Emerald Hide armor. Also, Enchanted Thicket armor can be dropped by Lamias on the north shore of the Enchanted lands. There is also Leatherfoot Deputy armor in EL as quest rewards.§ Level 40-50 – At this point you should really look into getting some rare crafted Augmented armor made. Start with the BP and legs for their high mit and beneficial procs. It’s good gear to start with if you plan on raiding for fabled gear.§ Level 50-60 – The rare crafted Scaled armor is better than most T5 fabled items in stats and mitigation. Consider it the norm until you get fabled. http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=24039 + What about Gis?Monks are lucky to be able to obtain brawlers specific pieces of armor called Gis. These are chest pieces that take over the appearance of all other armor slots, and have the appareance of a kung fu outfit more suitable for a monk. Check out this great thread on what Gis are out there, and how to obtain them: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=22788Pictures of some Gis here: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=7&message.id=8605Blood Drenched Gi Walkthrough: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=21921 Other cool monk gear: The rice hat! http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25609 o What are some good monk weapons? As with armor, rare crafted is generally superior to monk dropped and quested items excluding fabled. But that doesn’t matter, because all monk usable weapons use the crushing skill to determine their effectiveness now. Slashing weapons are called cestii, and piercing weapons are called cestus. Both weapons check your crushing skill, but do slashing and piercing damage. It is recommended that you have a pair of either cestii or cestus on hand when raiding in case you come up against a crush immune mob. See the multitude of threads here: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/search?board_id=6&submitted=true&q=piercingAnd a good thread that discusses damage type immunities: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=25331 Miscelaneous * Do monks have a weight limit like in eq1?No. You can actually carry around bank boxes and not be hit by the weight penalty due to our high strength. * Ashen Order Quests in Pillar of FlamesGuide: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=21687Loot: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=6&message.id=23933 * Game-wide monk chat channel. There is a game-wide monk chat channel where all the cool kids hang out. Please unsticky this. This FAQ is worthless until the links are researched all over again. There is no eqiiforums anymore.

I'm prepared to update and maintain the F.A.Q. Would it be fine to host it over at my guild's raid info site (the Raidwiki)?

I've started playing eq2 again. I guess the FAQ is in real disrepair now huh? I suppose something will have to be done about that.... As the original author I suppose I have a duty to uphold. The original link should work. Works for me anyway. If it doesn't I can upload it again and repost a link. If there are glaring errors in it due to major changes, point them out (preferably with references) and I'll update it. As I get back into the game I'll also update it as I go. BTW now that I'm back in the game, I'm guildless and alone... anyone on the kithicor server wanna throw me a bone?

I can access the FAQ easily enough, just alot of the information is referenced in post which don't exist any more. Glad your back and can work on it again.

"Devastation Fist – From bloodlines, we have Devastation Fist. This ability allows the monk to kill weaker opponents with a single blow. It is non-upgradeable, and cannot be crafted, meaning you must own the bloodlines chronicles and complete the quests to obtain it" Just as an FYI, this isn't actually true. Devastation Fist is most definitely craftable. Just look for it on the broker You certainly don't need to own the bloodlines chronicles to learn. Maybe to get the crafting recipe in the first place?

And they haven't been available from the tradeskill instance merchants for a long time. But the recipes are available on the broker, so obviously you can trade them once you get them. EDIT: The recipe books are called something like "xxxx's Teachings of Ancient K'Lorn Magic".

Under Can a monk tank?/How does a monk hold aggro?, we could add:

Hate transfer - using the Monk AA tree, the Martial Order line of Combat Arts can be upgraded with a hate transfer component. Transfers up to 5% hate from the monk to a fighter ally, or up to 7% hate from a non-fighter ally to the monk.

The Haste cap has been changed to 200 points, which equals 125% Haste. This is because the Haste percentage is calculated on a dimnishing returns curve since Game Update 29. Keep it all coming. It'll take me a little while to get back into the game and to get up to speed on all that has changed.

I'd like to update the sections on weapon choice... I think most people agree that monks should get a weapon with as long delay as possible. Auto-attacks have to wait for a combat art to finish, so the longer your auto-attack delay, the less your combat arts will get in the way of your auto-attacks. Often, but not always, the longest delay you can find will be a two-handed weapon. There doesn't seem to be a cap on weapon speed. It was mentioned in this very thread. The original dev post was lost in the forum transition, but I managed to snag a quote from the Google cache and paste it into my Combat System Guide. Using the STR line on the Brawler tree, bare fists can become as good as Legendary weapons. Many monks choose this line until they reach the end-game and get Fabled weapons.

I don't say ALL of them are borked but all that I tried were. Makes for a lack of information just where info is sorely needed. All in all, I'd say this has dropped from an A+ level doc to C+ due to lack of specifics where the link holes are.

I've been working on the FAQ and it's about 50% updated now. I hope to have the new version posted before RoK is released, with another updated version a couple weeks later to include any new RoK stuff.

hmmm, maybe I asked the wrong question. I have dinged 2 levels since 50 (now lvl 52) and no longer get new spells (CAs) at each level. I read somewhere that after lvl 50 I would have to buy the new spells, but who do I buy them from?

TIA

You could also find an alchemist to craft apprentice 4s or adept 3s for you. Or buy them from the broker.

Slashing weapons are called cestii, and piercing weapons are called cestus. Both weapons check your crushing skill, but do slashing and piercing damage. It is recommended that you have a pair of either cestii or cestus on hand when raiding in case you come up against a crush immune mob.
This is COMPLETELY false. There always have been a VERY FEW weapons that are monk usable and check against the other skills (And will raise the other skills - I'm at max skill on all forms of attack), although they were not weapons you would generally want to use at all. Now with RoK, there are new good (Legendary) weapons that check against these skills deviating from the old paradigm. Check out http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...m?itemId=211762 for example.

Since we only wear Leather, when something does get thru our avoidance, it can hit us hard. Healing after the fact (Druid heals) can be tricky. Templar reactive heals are okay, but only heals a set amount each tick, and that may not be the whole hit. With high avoidance and the heal only proccing on hits, reactives can time out, and once their timer is up, they're gone. Shaman wards absorb every hit up to their max amount, and if any is left over when their timer is up, its converted to a heal. Of course, for T8 this doesn't matter as much, since 80 Templars get a huge ward. Shamen also have Alacrity, which shortens your cast/recast time for 30 sec, and if they spec the Str line, the dog gives more Haste to the group. (Not that Str line has anything to do with the Haste, but the dog is pretty useless with out it). I have raiding lvl 80 Defiler and a 62 Monk, and I duo them a lot. Its a great combo.
