Well I think that players will get the chance to start a new toon as a monk(no longer start at fighter), and that the initial armour you get on the isle will be the white Gi. When you complete the "Welcome to <city>" quest, you'll get the yellow Gi, and after that the AQ like Moor said. Don't know what comes after, but hey I thought I'd share this much.

Message Edited by Jenoy on 12-16-2005 03:48 PM

I agree. It's the only reason why our current Gi is orange since really we are noob "Monks" when we get it.Hopefully this change to the classes will make the classes a little more unique. And maybe even help with some new classes. I know alot of people love a good Battle-Mage and I loved the Beastlord class in EQ.

Beastlords won't be in EQ2, they've pretty much said that a few times.

As for more classes, I think that is the last thing this game needs, if anything we have too many.

Fix the problems before starting more should be the general rule of thumb.

This sounds good. In EQ1 you started a monk and headed to the monk dojo to start your head band quests. You actually had a role and way of playing that reflected what a monk was. I really disliked the eq2 method. I guess it would be nice for a complete noob, but most people know what they want when they start a game. The first 15 levels just felt bland and generic. It's not a bad way of doing the early levels, it just wasn't what i was looking for in an EQ experience.Kinda makes me wanna re-roll a new monk when these changes hit just to try it out.

In regards to the proposed change to the 1-20 game, I think the man-hours that will go into making this change would be better spent working on high-end content. The 1-20 content is ancient history for people who are sitting at the level cap. They should take the man-hours theywere going to spend on this proposed change and instead introduce new items, graphics for armor, and even zones for the high-end crowd. Its a stated fact that content was cut from DoF to get it out the door in time. How about starting by putting that cut content back in? How about putting in 'new' armor graphics, meaning brand new not just a redye of existing armor or removing skirting, etc.? How about new zones that were supposed to be part of DoF but were cut? Basically, there is a lot of work that they could do to improve high-end content and I think that should be their first priority. I'm all for introducing a series of dyed AQ gi's for each level tier of monks from 20-60, like I mentioned in the "Why do Gi's lack so much?" thread. But I don't think they should waste man-hours reworking the first 20 levels of the game for every class before fulfilling their obligation to make the high-end game satisfying enough to keep people around once they reach the level cap. My idea of the best way of keeping people subscribed to your game is to make the high-end game so enjoyable that people won't want to play anything else. If you high-end game is rewarding enough than people won't mind trudging through the intermediate levels to reach it and once they're there they will keeping paying to play. At this time I think the intermediate levels are enjoyable enough and its the high-end they need to focus on.

I think this change is more of a way to pull in new subscribers and hold them. If I didn't know what I wanted and expected out of eq2, I probably would have gotten bored during the first 20 levels. It's something they feel they need to do for the good of the game, and good on em for actually doing it. These changes put some needed continuity into your class progression. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The archetype system looks good on paper, but in practical game play leaves a lot to be desired. What's the point of having generic boring useless classes? It's a nice (painfully?) slow introduction, but it's not really necesary. I get the impression they have John Romero coaching them through it chanting "Design is law!" But a good design doc doesn't mean it will translate to a fun experience. Just to derail for a bit longer.... An archetype system with classes within each archetype that are radically different just doesn't work. It's no longer an archetype. An archetype means tank, healer, dps, utility. Classes are scout, fighter, priest, mage. Sublcasses then fit neatly within those categories. In the progression I've listed, scouts can fit into utility and dps quite nicely. The way it is now, they are trying to pass scout and mage as both dps and utility, making it a nightmare to balance. But I digress.DoF is sort of a still birth of expansion mostly because of the combat patch going on at the same time. It's sad to think that they might just cut their losses on it and move onto the next tier. And fixing the content means admiting there was a problem. :smileysurprised: There is the chance that the cut content can't really be added anymore because they needed to modify storylines or zones or whatever to make a seamless whole in its absense. It's cut and no longer has a place in the big picture of DoF. My hope is we see a really awesome adventure pack that packs a lot of fun polished content.Moorgard keeps talking about new artwork coming over the span of several months in small installments. We can only hope that this "new" artwork and content will actually BE new and not just rehashed leftovers. And in terms of man hours, the people in charge of doing new things aren't the same as those in charge of tweaking and maintain old things. I don't know the extent of SoE/eq2's resources, but I'd hope they have enough people to do both in a polished and timely manner. I give the devs a lot of credit for pulling a broken game back together. Now if only they could get the CONTENT into the now working framework.

Message Edited by x0rtrunks on 12-17-2005 06:08 PM

I have a level-14 Brawler who (now that I have seen what is in store for the Bruiser level 20 Armor Quest) will be immediately leaving for Qeynos to get her (by then orange, because I will never make it time for white) level 20 AQ gi. By all accounts, I will be wearing that gi until 45 or so (yes, I know that I will have zippola for stats in my chest slot) at which time I might be able to camp the blood-soaked gi (assuming it is still around in its present form by then.) That gi will then carry me through to level 60. Moorgard's premise only works if:

There are multiple gis present in the game and

The aforementioned gis are obtainable by an average monk in an average 6-man group.

Neither of these situations appears to be true at the moment.
Actually you can get the blood drenched gi in your thirties. There are also a few gis that no one talks about:

Chainweave and Steel Stiched Gis (Armor Quest)

Blood Drenched Gi (Bloodlines) - lvl 30

Garatch Mot Gi - lvl 29

Woven Gi of Conquest - lvl 23

Gi of Madness - lvl 43

Gi of The Disciple - lvl 42

Woven Vulcanized Tunic - lvl 43

Gi of the Ashen Disciple - lvl 54

Rujarkian Woven Gi - lvl 56

Gi of the Dark Disciple - lvl 58

Of those the Garatch and Woven Gi of Conquest might not be gi graphics, because I haven't seen them.

There are also the Stone Sunder Tunic and Sumyd's Raiment of Undeath that are brawler only but I'm unsure of the graphic.
