<DIV>Now I know that some of you will feel that the Devastation Fist ability is useless and not worth the trouble. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>On realising I did not have the skill, I did a bit of research and, as a result, bought the Bloodlines Adventure Pack.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To find that I was not able to complete the required quests by myself. I found myself intensely reluctant to ask my guild to also pay out actual currency for an Adventure Pack no one really wanted or needed just so I could get the skill (and thus causing myself some embarressment, bordering on humiliation).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I also could not understand why some of the quests - such as visiting the Underrot Caves for example - were scaleable to solo or group - but the quests I understood that I needed were not.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So I sent a ticket to ask why there was no scaling, why there were no warnings that the quests were not really soloable and why a level 35 skill was locked away for my class.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>After several back and forth tickets (mostly dealing with GMs who had totally the wrong end of the stick) I got the following response from a GM I won't name:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"I understand that you didn't get the level 35 Monk class spell 'Devastation Fist'</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is just to inform that this spell is given to Brawler at level 35 but not the Monk. For more information about which spells 'Monk' gets at different levels, I request that you please visit the link: <A href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/classes/index.vm?classid=6" target=_blank>http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/classes/index.vm?classid=6</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You can also visit the link for Brawler's spells at: <A href="http://eq2players.sony.com/en.classes/index.vm?classid=5" target=_blank>http://eq2players.sony.com/en.classes/index.vm?classid=5</A></DIV> <DIV>This will confirm you that the level 35 spell 'Devastation Fist' is given to Brawler"</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So now I am confused as well as angry and feeling rather ripped off.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Is the GM wrong? Are we not all Fighters and Brawlers before we become Monks?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Baffled.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Wow, that's one lame GM. He's right though, sort of... the spell is a brawler spell, meaning that all brawlers, all 2 of them, both monks AND bruisers can use it. I guess he thinks brawlers are a seperate sub-class or something.... /boggle It sucks yes. We can't get the spell unless we shell out for the adventure pack and do the quests, where as all other classes can just buy it from a spell maker with the book. Our spell doesn't show up in the books because it doesn't have an upgrade. (/boggle!) <div></div>

GM's can't discuss anything that relates to game design, be it content or whether an adventure pack is soloable or multiplayer. Don't bother with CS tickets, coz GM's don't do anything but sending stock replies with "how they understand the situation...". They never give concrete information or help, so don't waste your time on that. <div></div>

<P>couple of things:</P> <P>That musta been the janitor, sitting in for the cleaning lady, who was sitting at the keyboard for the GM who was on a smoke break. That is indeed a Monk usable skill. And I don't think it's useless at all. While harvesting in PoF, a scorp comes up to you to harass your work...SCHMAK! back to harvesting. I love it if even just for the wow factor from peeps who have never seen it =)</P> <P>The BLC becomes soloable around level 40. I farmed in there looking for (and finally finding) the Blood Drenched Gi at level 44-45. The Gi drops from the named Vamps in there. </P> <P>If I were you, I would still try to get DF. I use it everyday I play if for no other reason that one shot killng a yellow mob makes me smile (high magic hit is 9k+). Level up to 40 (or so), and start checking in there. It was a while before I could comfortably solo the zone, but IMO it was worth it. And you may get yourself a Gi while yer at it. </P>

<DIV> </DIV> <DIV> I've been trying to get devastation fist for my monk as well. I find it very annoying that all the other bloodlines abilities are craftable except that one. I can understand why it's not upgradable, but it's annoying that monks and bruisers are forced to do the expansion quests while other classes are not. My monk is level 37 right now and I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to level up some more to do the quests. There just aren't many Bloodlines groups right now.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> I'd be happy if there was player crafted version that was identical to the vendor bought version.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> -Brillig</DIV> <DIV> </DIV><p>Message Edited by Brillig on <span class=date_text>12-08-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:45 AM</span>

"becomes soloable around 40". I think you've be 45 really <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I'm 41 and the mobs at the entrance are green tripple-arrow heroics and I'm sure they are higher level deeper inside the zone. How can that be soloable? Make a mistake or get an add and you are dead <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Also, it takes ages to do this alone. <div></div>

<P>At 45 I have solo'd the 2 intro quests and all 3 good quests to get my Devastation Fist except for one of the<STRONG> </STRONG>named vamps (the one around the drained Griniin on the rock) - added a 40 swashbuckler friend and with the added DPS it was easy.</P> <P>Did take a few hours solo but not too bad, the swashy made some mobs green so combo of smuggle and killing made it trivial <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>Adding any class would probably have the same effect - just need to kill them before they kill you!</P>

I think the rule of thumb, for me anyways, is once a ^^^ is 10 levels lower, they are relatively easy to solo, espicially if they are not a Named ^^^. Even the named Vamps in there become pretty easy at 10 lvls lower. AT 9 levels they were a challenge, and there was a 30% chance that I would lose. </P> <P>But, that's why I say "check it out" after you ding 40.
