View Full Version : Tanking Raid Mobs past LU17 ...
<DIV>I wonder if i am the only Monk that has problems with tanking raidmobs now. Bevore LU17 i had no big problems tanking Terrorantula and some other Mobs. Now i get hit with 7-9 k Dmg Spikes and if the mob dies mental dmg or not, a guardian and even a SK or pally are better tanks cause the mitgidate much more and can get healed. I cant get healed after taking 9k piercing dmg. Its not important if i get hit less often, cause after 2 of those hits i am dead.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Noogi</DIV>

We tried terrorantula many times past lu17 and I don't know, we just can't get it done <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> We tried it with a monk (me) with full legendary armor, about 8.9k hit points and we got it down to 70%... We tried it with two different Guardians in half fabled half legendary gear (t6 of course) about 9.5k hit points, couldn't get it down to even 90%... We tried it with SK, didn't seem any better... Don't know what it is, but the dmg output is just crazy from Terrorantula... Supposedly there is a trick to doing it, and we just haven't figured it out yet. If anyone could throw us a freaking bone here, it would be nice <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> But considering a monk lasted longer than two guardians and a sk, made me feel pretty good <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> The thing that is really annoying with Terrorantula is that taunts get resisted. As a monk I have only two taunts, both master 1, and if both get resisted, it's uhm kind a over... Dmg out put from it is pretty nasty too. Does the new armor with piercing resist help here? <div></div>
<DIV>Why have a monk tank terrorantula? lol<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV>We are taking her down every week with our guardian tanking it.</DIV> <DIV>Has been dropping monk boots the last 3 times.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good luck with the encounter guys.</DIV> <DIV><BR> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Psipsinos 60monkah Toxxulia</DIV>
<DIV>Cause its a bit easyer for a Monk to hold agro cause of the taunts getting resisted a lot but the taunt-stance of Monks works pretty fine. But you are right, past LU17 a guardian is the much better choice in my eyes.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Noogi</DIV>

If the case is that you NEED a guardian, then things aren't ballanced and need to be fixed, period. This mentality with only having guardians tanking needs to die and stay dead.</span><div></div>

Thats is not true..at all...Guardians have to be somewhat better at tanking than a monk.If they were not there class would be useless...literally.What do you want them to be?Dps?I think not.

part of the way we hold agro is by doing dps that is the reason our dps is higher than other fight classes. look at how many different ways a guardian has to gain hate and then look at a monk ull notice the difference i hope. <div></div>

<P>Thats not what im trying to say...Although it is a good point</P> <P>Let me elaborate </P> <P>Monk = Hybrid:We can do alot of things.Be tanks,Decent Dps,Peeler,Etc.</P> <P>Guardian=Single Purpose:TANK.Now I suppose they could be a peeler aslo but since the dont really add to good amount of dps and they would be just sitting there waiting to taunt it would be kinda pointless.</P> <P>Now the point that I was trying to get across was that Guardians should SOMEWHAT,Not by a lot, exceed the Monk in tanking. Why? As I said earlier they are pretty much a single purpose class and their purpose is Tank. So if they didnt exceed us by just a little they would never be able to find a group.Dont get me wrong though monks make great tanks :smileyhappy: !</P> <P>Now I was not here during LU 16 ,and on and off during 17 and started playing again so correct me if I am wrong. But dont start with blah blah thats stupid.</P>

<DIV>Although Volcomstone1259 might be somewhat wayward in defining why he thinks guardians are better tanks, I certainly don't blame him for replying to Jezekiell's pile of poop. In CERTAIN situtuations, monks might be more suited to tanking than guardians, but in MOST situations, a guardian is more suited to tanking than a monk.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Unless the raid target is single, dps is seriously inhibited for nuking/major ae damage classes because a monk cannot deal with aggro maintenance on a group/multi beast environment. So you might have a secondary tank to purely maintain the aggro for the more menial members of the encounter - isn't that a real waste of manpower?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Diamondmage mentioned about dps being a major factor in monks retaining aggro against a single encounter. This is very true, although similarly berserkers maintain group aggro through dps (and a hate building root).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It's all horses for courses, no warrior class/subclass is always better than any other in tanking 100% of the time, but the warrior class that is most often best is the guardian.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Personally, I would hate to be a guardian because I think they would be a very boring class to play, but hey, each to their own</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm not trying to preach to the converted, Gaige; this post was aimed at a few previous posters.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anjin - Monk (54)</DIV> <DIV>Thagdal - Berserker (45)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV><p>Message Edited by Herbster on <span class=date_text>12-06-2005</span> <span class=time_text>12:48 PM</span>
