I've been using a mix between Emerald Hide and Splitpaw Hide until I found two High Quality pelts on the broker for 1c each. Now I'm wearing imbued legendary chest and legs, Emerald Hide and Splitpaw Hide for the rest. My avoidance has wavered between 55% and 65% in defensive stance depending on where in the level I am (at 20% tnl it's as high as it gets, at 100% tnl when I've just dinged it's as low as it gets) and whether I have Martial Discipline running. My agility is currently 110. http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/pplayer.vm?characterId=401935209 That's me if you want to take a look. EDIT: Bothered to look up Martial Discipline's name.

Message Edited by Talen_Ramel on 11-15-2005 08:39 AM

thanks for the replys guys....

I just need to know what route to take. As of right now i still get the crap beat out of me by same lvl mobs. I just got some new weapons and with some spike type fist weapons ( have +9 to str ) my str is over 100. With the fighting baton and another club i can push my agi over 100.

Just got a 2-hander with some serious pop. Damage range is something like 78-150 .. some where in that area. I did a little test tonight and i hit very hard with it but it seems like some mobs go down quick while others give me a hell of a time while using either defensive stance or offensive.

Now i read that the mob lets you know what stance to use. If its higher than you ( defensive ) and if its your lvl or lower ( offensive ) please correct me if am wrong. I just need to know how to gage mobs i am fighting.

I solo in offensive. I don't solo alot in high 50s.I group in offensive. Unless I'm fighting some thing much higher than my level or a named. What I like to do is, when grouping, is to see if the healers can hold me up in defensive stance. If they keep me in green, I go offensive. It helps with aggro too because you do more damage. This is very nice if you also duo with a good healer because it helps with the damage, so mobs die faster. One more thing, if the mob is caster, don't think about any other stance, go offensive.Thank you!

so its as i thought. thanks for the feed back.

Offensive when solo.

I have some fist weapons with high str ( about +9 each ) and 1.5 spd. Think with haste on i hit hard and fast. But when i equip them my agi drops to about 88. Would it be better to get something with higher agi or would these fist weapons do more damage to the point where i wouldnt have to worry to much about avoiding damage.

ps.. does high avoidance come from agi.. or is it a combination of armor + mitigation + agi and defense.

thanks again

Agi really doesnt do much for avoidance anymore. You need heaps of it to make a big difference. Focus on mitigation, stam, wis, str more so imo. Getting stuff with agi on it is never a bad thing, but i wouldn't focus on it as a main stat anymore.

You are getting beat on because you are using lvl 20 armor at lvl 30. Need to upgrade to T4 armor asap. This is a general requirement. All the way up, the MoBs in the next tier will shred you if you are using armor that's 10 levels old.

In terms of how to do that, consider the following:

Best = rare crafted armor. Best stats, best mit, plus the procs on the chest and legs. Very pricey, though. When I came up (Monk is my main, so no twinking) I went:

Very good = Emerald hide quested armor for 30-35. Full set of armor from quests given by Hammer, who is on top of the palisade near the Zek docks. This armor has very good mitigation and ok stats. At 35, start switching out for Enchanted Thicket Woven armor. This drops from the lamias on the north coast of EL. Added bonus is that they are soloable and there's tons of 'em. I had fun killing my way up and down that beach, getting a piece of that armor every 20 kills or so. Enchanted Thicket is useable at 35 and has THE BEST stats for brawlers of any armor short of T5 or T6 fabled or T6 legendary. The tradeoff is it's mitigation is not great (Emerald Hide is better). One option is to have both sets and switch between them depending on whether you are tanking or DPSing. I finally decided to go with the Thicket stuff full time because I was able to kill so fast with it on.

Acceptable - non-rare crafted. Use this only as a stop gap if you are working the Emerald Hide quests and getting beat up too bad to finish them (which I doubt). CERTAINLY do not pay too much for this option.

At T5, you will want to get into a set of rare crafted (augmented) as soon as possible. Now that the level cap has raised, the price for T5 pelts has come down quite a bit, at least on Crushbone.

As to weaponry, I recommend an imbued rare crafted bo staff as the best price/performance choice at any level. (With the added benefit of the cool animations.) Now that they have upped the damage and reduced the riposte chances on dual wield, 2H is no longer clearly superior in all situations, but, for the cost-conscious adventurer, you can't beat buying one item rather than 2.

As a tailor I have a vested interest in this issue, and for the most part, I can tell you that a set of crafted armor will have better stats than the Treasured items. However as Morrolan has indicated you need to put some thought into what you buy. I recommend Handcrafted armor sets, with Legendary imbued leggings and chest pieces. The Handcrafted should not be too expensive and the two Legendary pieces provide the biggest bang for the buck, without spending a fortune on rare roots or pelts. Of course imbuing is pretty much mandatory, chest piece for heal proc and leggings for damage proc.

Sets of Treasured (dropped) armour generally have one strength and a substantial weakness in some of the stats, for example, Enchanted Thicket armor gives 55 strength, but no int and no power stats and mitigation on magic and mental only..

As far as I have found, the only better armor is Fabled and Mythical but that only drops from named and raid mobs and/or is very rare and expensive.

Hey, I can tell ya why your getting the crap beat out of ya. I think you have Everburning "fire" spell up, if ya got that yet not sure exactly when that haste line starts. But if you have that on what happens is that spell drains your life while your fighting, I tend to solo better when I am not using the everburning line of haste buffs. I go offensive and use all my other buffs. I never really ever go defensive because I figure in a group the more haste you have, the faster the mob will drop. With a good healer or healers you can't go wrong going full dps on the mobs. When you solo though just avoid using everburning line unless you got the food to heal you back up for the extra downtime it will cause.

I went back and looked at the stats on the armor sets, and my memory was slightly faulty.

Tailored etched armor is useable at 30

Emerald Hide is useable at 35

Enchanted Thicket is useable at 38

So, I went through them in that order. What Schichea says is true - the quested or dropped sets tend to have tradeoffs, while the player made sets are more balanced, and can be imbued.

So, you may want to consider what XenoSage says, if that's a factor. I also don't use Everburning Flame/Fire/Blaze when tanking, for the reasons he says.

Is misthide still in the game? I remember it having the same stats as emerald hide with a cool look of its own. The quests were similar to the Hammer quests in Zek, but were given by an NPC in EL. I always thought that stuff looked snazzy! And, you could mix and match rare-crafted with it without looking like patchwork. The brand new emerald hide graphics look pretty pretty nice and unique, too, though.

Misthide is still in, it's the reward from the Far Seas Quests. Not quite as easy to get as emerald hide because you have to find the far seas drops as loot to initiate the quest but, yeah they're there.
