This question is in regards to using offensive stance.

I've read here in posts that for solo game play it is best to go Offensive stance for the improved dps instead of defensive because the penalties are not worth it.

I want to know exactly how we go about using duel weild and 2-handers in regards to tanking and dps.

I am aware when using a 2-hander you dont swing as much but you also dont get reposit as much and the proc rate is higher.

2-handers from what i've seen hit harder on normal auto attacks also.

I know with using duel weild weapons we get double the stats that we would get using a 2-hander.

From the "Monk Facts.... sticked at the top of the page. And it goes like this...

Weapon Selection:

Use a two-handed weapon: the slowest one you can find. Currently, the ultimate weapon for monkly damage is the Royal Great Flail, a 3.8 delay fabled T5 weapon with a 12% 250dd proc. Slow weapons do more damage than fast weapons for several reasons:

With a fast weapon, you're going to cap your delay at 0.8 seconds, so a fast weapon allows you to take advantage of much more haste. In a good raid group you'll easily get 100% or more haste, which takes a 1.6 delay weapon down to the cap. You would need 475% haste to get the RGF down to 0.8 delay, which might be doable but is really hard. But if you're getting more than 100% haste you're wasting a lot of it with a fast weapon.
You don't get autoattack swings while your combat art is "casting" (the progress bar is going up, right before your attack lands). Especially when hasted, a fast weapon will be missing one or two autoattack swings during that cast time. If you time your attacks correctly (discussed in more detail later) then a slow weapon won't miss any swings but a fast weapon will always be losing some swings. If you're spamming combat arts, you might only get an autoattack swing in every two seconds. Because slow weapons hit for more damage per hit than fast weapons, if you're forced into taking fewer swings you will increase your damage by using a weapon that does more damage per hit.
Slow weapons have a greater chance to proc on each hit, because proc % is normalized to a 3.0 delay. That means a 1.5 delay weapon will have half the chance to proc on each hit as a 3.0 delay weapon. Now, if you just autoattack and leave, you'll get the same number of procs per minute. But if you're only swinging every few seconds (because your attacks are being delayed by CA casting) then you'll proc more on the swings you do get if you're using a slower weapon.
Not confirmed: a slow weapon increases your chance to proc on CA hits.

Now would it be foolish to give up about double the stats for increased dps and damage by using a 2-hander. I just want to kill what ever it is am attacking as fast as possible.

PS... am a lvl 29 monk ( 28 really with about 4 boxes to go to hit 29 ) :smileyhappy:

Message Edited by three on 11-09-2005 08:37 PM

Message Edited by three on 11-09-2005 08:55 PM

There are a few things in there that need to be changed to reflect the changes made in the combat update (LU13), and the most recent patch (LU16) For one thing, delay is still capped at 0.8, but haste is now capped at 100%, meaning the best you can ever do is halve your delay. so 1.6 delay with 100% haste would get you to the delay cap of 0.8. Casting times for almost all of our dmg CAs has been reduced to 0.5 seconds. Meaning that your weapon will rarely have a wasted swing in that period. So we aren't losing as much dps from casting ca's now. Reaching close to 100% haste isn't unattainable for a majority of monks. even casual players. The 2 master2 haste choices plus an fbss and our offensive stance will get your to 80-90% easily by your mid to early 40s i think. Also, there are fast DW and slow DW and fast 2HB and slow 2HB. Cestii and cestus are both 2.0, while bo staffs are 1.7 for instance. Also, in the last update LU16, the riposte rates for DW was reduced, as well as proc rate and damage increased to make it more in line with 2HB. With these changes, DW should be equal to 2HB in dps and tanking, with the possibility for a slight advantage to DW now. (better stats, and equal mechanics to 2HB) This is what you'd expect for a weapon option that costs twice as much. At your early lvl, just get the best 2HB weapon you can afford. Personally, i went with 2HB cause it was cheaper, and with the savings i upgraded my armor. The big choices between DW and 2HB only really become pertinent in the 40s onward IMO, and by then you may want to have a pair of each. Cestii/cestus for DW slashing/piercing and a good 2HB for crushing. Another important factor is what you think looks cool. DPS and tanking ability should be fairly equal now.
