They changed things a bit...I really don't know what to say anymore myself....I am just not as excited about it myself anymore...

They changed avoidance a LITTLE bit..so averaging 58% fully buffed...with around 28% Mitigation fighting a 50. Stats just don't add up to help you anymore. Fights...well...in my opinion now...we are not avoidance tanks...we are LUCK tanks (this is my opinion), lucky if we don't get hit often. If you want to go the DPS route for support role...should be okay.

Again, this is just my view right now, hopefully others can add to it, cuz I am just a little frustrated with the last changes made to the mechanics. I was soloing, having fun, getting in some duo/trio groups, again, having fun while challenged. Now it's all just...frustrating.

I still plan on getting DoF, mainly cuz I like the game, and hoping the next few days get's more of the tweaks done.

My friend was telling me that on Beta as of today he can solo Whites. At the end of the fight his HP is in the yellow.

This sounds reasonable. Why is others saying otherwise. Are people over reacting to the changes. He is jsut killing things in the DoF city perhaps mobs out side the citys are more nasty.

Thanks

Robsco

Well, for example...I took on a 50^ white...spellcaster. Got me down to about 60% when I killed him when I had another 50 aggro me and took me down to about 15% before I got it killed. Now take in the totality of the situation, not just as a monk but other fighters as well. This was solo.

Take in a group setting of 3, to which we tried a 47^^^ tarantula...28% mitigation for attacks you avoid roughly 60% of the time...it adds up...and fast. Now take that in totality with a full group taking on on 3 or 4 ^^'s...any tank is going to be suffering bad.

Again, this may because the combat changes are again new with these latest changes, and getting used to them is still needing to be happen. Now because the rate of which damage can be dealt out will be somewhat on a faster pace, yeah, it's going to be more heads up for all group members.

Lastly, in a group situation, you have to take in the whole picture where if the tank can lose aggro and say go after a mage type or priest type...their mitigation/avoidance is way lower...so imagine the possiblities that bit of fun can be.

Bottom line is that the latest changes, while they are still working on them...were sweeping, affecting all classes, some moreso than others. This type of change, in my opinion should have been at the start and built up from there, so that they can really work on balancing each class. Don't get me wrong, not whining about it myself, it's just that I thought they struck the right balance before the latest combat changes were put in.

The last two days patches have really helped a lot. I'm not too bothered with anything on beta atm.

well for me any up arrow mobs will kill me. this is with the gear and arts I have. it doesnt matter if they are group or solo nor does it matter what con color they are either. up arrow mob for me = death and exp debt. I'll be stuck killing down arrow mobs and no arrow mobs up to white. maybe a non arrow yellow, but one mistake and I'm dead or even a little lag will kill me.

its not like I could solo up arrow mobs or even group mobs on live. I could barely solo a green group mob, but only if there was only 1 mob, more then 2 forget it.

Message Edited by salerene on 09-10-2005 10:00 PM

Hmm on live you could solo Green++ heroics.

My only concern is that if they want you only to solo white no arrow mobs (assuming handcrafted gear) then they need to remove most of the heroic solo mobs.

If you were in full normal handcrafted soloing only solo mobs seems right. If you were in legendary the ability to solo green heroic mobs seems viable. Same as if you were in full fable and masters you should be tougher. I can only use my 50 zerker to gauge how armor etc effected the way I tanked and the way in my opinion it should be. Anyways the only thing to do now is wait and see what happens.

Don't worry so much about your RGF, go get very lite armor. Yes, we as "avoidance" tanks get much better avoidance with very lite. So this means if you wanna expand upon your strength as avoidance tank, you must shed your small amount of mitigation. Not sure how this is gonna play out, but I don't see tanking epic content in cloth as a viable option. (Not that I ever wanted the MT role on epic content to begin with).

As some may be content, there is still many questions to be answered. As of right now (from extensively testing beta), I don't see brawlers roles changing much. At least monks are still known for stiflers of epics (although this skill was reduced in half), and that by itself will get you into a 24 man raid. With that being said, I never understood why on earth a raid leader would choose a monk to MT an epic anyway and have that stifle ability reduced by having monk face target. As of right now, only sure way to land that stifle, as well as other stuns, multi attacks, etc. is from "behind or side" the target. There are now much better DPS options to fill raids, and due to brawlers lack of sufficient group taunting they still fall short as compared to guards in that respect. So we have the 360 dgree defense, yet insufficient group taunting.

Bottom line, mitigation is currently king, it is more predictible then avoidance, which is a dice roll. I imagine there will be a few mobs down the line, in which each fighter class will be able to do the job with it's specific spell mitigation buff. (ex. mental for monk). But, until then , not much has changed in our role in my opinion. The class is still fun, with decent weapon/weapons and strength, DPS is still respectible. Solo is still an option and combat is refined and feels better.

I think every Monk will be happy, or at least content with the changes. Our DPS has been lowered, but it isn't drastic at all. Our tanking ability has been upped, but it isn't drastic at all. All in all, I really honestly, have more fun on Beta than on Live. I love the new stance options, I love our new abilities. We can solo just as good as before (a lot better in some situations, in some, worse). Later today, when (and if) the servers come up, after some messing around, you will see we haven't really changed much, and it is no where near as bad as it was made out to be. Enjoy
