Simple question - if you had to choose a class to duo with that did not fall in the Priest archetype, what would it be and why?

personally, I like to duo with a Guardian, because although they don't do much damage, they can tank a hell of a lot better than me, and I can just go full out DPS from behind... it works quite well, I duoed with a guardian friend in SE from about 46 to 50 while we were trying to find healers to trio with

hhrmm interesting question lets see

well ill name one for each of the remaining archetypes

Fighter: paladin hands down for the fighters; got to love the heal wards ect plus they work great in duo's solo enviroment ( and they got some neat buffs also)

Scout: troub (although after revamp it looks like dirge maybe cause of the melee buffs they will have over the troub) they have a slew of tricks and stuff they bring to the table and probbally in general would be my prefered duo partner other then a healer

Mage: tough one here but i suppose a pet class that way they could have the pet tank for a bit and i could take over after it went down or have the pet catch a stray add.

I duo quite a bit with a illusionist. The mez for adds, constant power from Insight, and power drains on mobs let us take mobs that I've had problems with with a healer.. I gave pretty much go full force on CA's and rarely run low on power.

I'd have to say Paladin.

My wife's toon is a Paly, and with her wards, heals, insta-heal; then my mend, FD and utility - we've been successful at bouncing heroic mobs back and forth and doing quite well.

Without some form of healing it's going to be very rough. I'd say Paladin, just because you get at least a limited amount of healing, and if things get bad you can swap agro and let the other guy tank.

Could you possibly give me a little insight/tips as to how you function inside that duo situation? Interesting spell/CA coordinations, pulling, general flow of battle, that sort of thing. It sort of came about because we just kind of gravitated towards what sounded most interesting to us (we just started this last week), but after going over the spell/CA charts listed on the guide section, they seem like they would mesh fairly well (outside the obvious lack of healing capability).

I duo'd with a scout. We mastered the ability to do HO's and we kept going for the dmg HO's. Same strategy everytime. The result is insane DPS and killing the opponents before it kills us. We did this successful to the mid 20's when she decided she wanted to make a Fury.

I have to admit, I thought we were a successful duo team before but having a healer changes everything. We can take on even heroic encounters, etc without a huge gigantic risk. While duoing with the scout made solo encounters a peice of pie and blue to green heorics possible, I doubt any non-healer combo would last into the high 30's as the Monk/Fury combo we got going has lasted. I don't forsee a monk/priest combo of any kind, really, not being possible all the way to the cap.

Even in beta we remained an effective pair. I think honestly, any combo with a monk should be decent though. But without healing potential, your ability to take on Heroic zones will be severely lowered simply due to the massive downtime you're going to be putting out. Every fight will be a gut-wrenching, power draining, hp lowering extravaganza in a heroic zone w/out some form of healing. Not to say you couldn't grab a healer for those dungeons and whatnot, though .

Just my experience. I've duo'd with my fiancee with the following combos:

Me Shadowknight, her Predator (back at release)

Me Shadowknight, her Inquisitor (back at release)

Me Monk, her Swashbuckler

Me Monk, her Fury

Out of all those, I would have to say the Monk/Fury combo we have going now is by far the best.

Actually, I ended up rolling Priest (going towards Mystic). So... yeah, funny that. :smileyvery-happy: Maybe others can glean something useful out of this thread, however, so if you still have comments about the topic, feel free to continue posting.

pfft not another monk choose a bruiser. The monk tanks the bruiser does dps. But thats not who i choose. Id say a BARD!!!!!!!!!!!! with a bard in the duo you can tank like mad, untill they mess up avoidance. the agi flies up the avoidance and accuracy does aswell. they are good dps aswell and if you get an add guess what. They fear it off. Bard + monk every time I need to find more bards...

One of our friends has a monk in the same level range, and it is indeed an amazing trio! The extra mitigation buffs from a bard and druid also make a huge difference for the monk.
