With the latest update my nice new orange con emerald hide armor which I put on 2 weeks ago at level 35 has turned blue to my level 35 monk (min level now 30). This is a real hastle since I just sold off all my 30-40 crafted armor and will have to buy it all over again.

Is there a new level 35ish light armor solution to replace it?

Looked at the misthide. Also min 30 and slightly inferior to the new emerald hide.

And yes, bugged it

Message Edited by Swordmage on 07-23-2005 03:47 AM

I can't speak for Emerald Hide, but misthide was level 30 well before the patch.

You don't *HAVE* to sell it off. If anything you're getting a bigger AC bonus from it while it's blue than at Orange.

My purpose in posting was two fold:

To let people know that the standard equipment path in the FAQ has changed.

To try and generate a groundswell of support for getting the armor restored to its previous level range.

If pressed, I will admit to also being upset at having to spend yet more on crafted armor after already having it all in my hot little hands.

Even if emerald hide is blue to you now, it's still a good set of armor that you can wear until level 40. At 40 you can get the T5 crafted stuff to replace it. I definitely wouldn't buy the T4 crafted if you're already level 35 and in full emerald hide.

Oh and to those who mentioned misthide - emerald hide is definitely better than misthide... and it looks much cooler too. :smileyhappy:

As long as the armor itself hasnt changed, what color it is to you should make no difference whatsoever. If a gray level 1 peice of armor had superior stats to T5 armor, you would want to wear it. Not sure why it bugs you that its blue now instead of yellow or orange, its still the same armor you were wearing prior to patching.

Unfortunately, although the armor hasn't changed, the mitigation calculation is based on level, so it is lower than it originally was at level 35. This is why I need to upgrade. Some of the pieces are still better than crafted at level 36, but, aside from one agility heavy piece, I will probably get rid of all of them by level 38 unless the bug is fixed.

Are you saying the mitigation number is DIFFERENT (specifically lower) now? What is it now? What was it? If it changed downward, that would be contrary to what I've seen mentioned and would be a significant change to the nature of how armor and mitigation verses armor level works!

Well if my thinking on this is correct, what the poster means is... when armor becomes equippable at, say, 35, the AC maxes at (just to throw a number out) 40. But if the armor is now equippable at 30, then the AC would max at 35 instead. That would mean instead of going from 35-40 w/ your ac on the rise, you're stagnant at those lvls. Therefor one might be more inclined to trade up to something better, sooner.

Edited to add: Though that shouldn't matter all that much, really, if the max you're getting at 35 is the *same* max you would've gotten at 40. You're just getting it 5 lvls sooner, right? So, er...instant gratification??

Message Edited by SirensSong on 07-28-2005 12:29 AM

Bought crafted, sold the Emerald... never gave it a second thought.

PS: but yes, it was an annoying ninja change.

Yeah, I noticed this the other day too. I'm 34 now and was looking forward to upgrading from my Misthide pieces. I was searching on the broker for a piece or 2 of armor, and happened to see a piece of Emerald Hide gear that was yellow. Struck me as rather odd so I checked my bank and sure enough, it was. Now there's just no point. I didn't even bother switching to the Emerald Hide because I would've lost the Magic resists that the Misthide gave me. I sold it and upgraded a couple pieces instead. I'll have to see what else I'll be able to buy at 35.

If that was the case, they would have turned very good 35-39 armor into demi-god-like 30-34 armor and I wouldn't have been at all upset.

From everything I have seen, armor mitigation is proportional to character level -- in a sampling of yellow/orange chest pieces for my level 20 fighter, the mitigation at 20 and at max were always A * level. I also tracked a piece of armor through the Isle of Refuge and had it go up a constant amount per level (adjusted for rounding).

Thus when I say the Emerald Hide Armor hasn't changed, what I mean is that constant multipler, A, hasn't changed.
