<DIV>Hello all</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have played a Templar for 40 levels, which I enjoy, although perhaps the word 'fun' would not be associated with the class.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So I decided to roll a Tank class, as having been on the recieving end of tanks who don't taunt (coz it does no damage!!!!!???), I thought a monk would provide the most enjoyment and satisfaction at being able to hold aggro.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, as a Templar, Riposte is not something I have ever come across, as it is melee based I think?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Can someone please enlighten me as to what it is and how to avoid it? Im assuming it's when a mob parries or something, and you take the damage from the hit intended for the mob? But I would appreciate any clarification.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Boulder - 17 Brawler (Nek)</DIV>

<P>Riposte is a melee ability that allows the player or the NPC a chance for a free attack in response to an attack.</P> <P>On a successfull roll, I will riposte an attack from the enemy.  Meaning I swing at him because he swung at me.  All melee classes get it as well as most Mobs.</P> <P>You cannot avoid it if you are facing the mob (IE TANK). If you are not the MT, then get behind the mob.  In addition, using slower DW weapons or 2H weapons will greatly reduce the chance of you being the recipient of a riposte.</P>

<DIV>I am not sure, but when using staggering stance when being dps/off tank I sometimes riposte a riposte or jsut dodge it.. Only seen it when I am intercepting for the mt.. Dont think its ever happened when I am tanking or soloing.</DIV>

<DIV>I am going to speculate that riposte is an extreme form of parry. If you parry successfully (parry % can be seen in persona menu), you will make a percent roll to riposte. I dont remember my parses on this but I believe the parry to riposte ratio was 3-5:1.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-Jenjer</DIV>

<P>Let me state that no matter what Fighter type you take they all have a hard time holding agro if you are fighting with others that spam CAs.</P> <P>As for riposte, when you are fighting a mob it has the chance to block, parry, dodge, take damage or riposte the damage taken.  </P> <P>riposte has a chance to occur every time you swing at a mob if the mob successfully riposte it usually hits ya for a greater then normal percent hit. (Im sure someone has done the calculations on damage. but I havent) .</P> <P>So since riposte is something that has a chance to happen every time you swing, there are only a few things you can do to reduce the chance of riposte occuring.</P> <P>1) If you are not tanking, stand behind the mob, at current from what I know, no mob can riposte anyone attacking from behind it.  this is why you usually see MT on 1 side of the mob and everyone else behind it.</P> <P>2) Use 2h weapons rather then DW, since dw are usually faster and be cause you are swinging with both hands every time you swing either hand there is a chance you can be riposte more often which means you can take more damage.  So by using 2h weapons you basically swing less and only 1 time for 1 weapon there by reducing the damage you may take from swinging at the mob.</P> <P>Someone may have a deeper understanding but thats how I basically understand it.</P> <P> </P> <P>Good luck to ya</P>

<DIV>If you're going to be the tank, or standing in front of the mob, Ripostes are just something you'll have to learn to live with. They'll always happen, but on the plus side you can do them as well. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>A Riposte is a form of parrying where you turn the enemys sword (or weapon) away like a parry but then you follow it up with a attack of your own on the now open opponent.  That being said, it works off your parry skill. The higher your parry skill compared to the level of mobs you're fighting, the better chance you'll get one off. Vice versa as well. So if you're fighting a pack of green mobs chances are you'll be Riposte them a lot, as long as they are on your front side, with it not happening to you that often if at all. If you're fighting a red mob, chances are you'll be Riposted a lot and you'll know it when you get hit by them since ripostes always do more damage then a normal attack. So while a mob might only be hitting you in the 30's he might be able to riposte you for 100 (same goes for you).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So normally when fighting oranges and reds you would want to use a two handed weapon if you have one so you won't get riposted as often. Dual wielding will just murder you if you're unlucky since monks don't have high mitigation. It can be done, but you're putting yourself at more risk then is needed.</DIV>
