Probably a stupid question, but I couldn't find it. What do monks use to pull at what levels? Do we get a spell? Can we use a bow eventually? Throwing knives? I'm sure everyone has their own style...please comment. Thanks.

We can equip the various types of tailored/dropped ranged items, but not bows.

We can use pouches, satchels, bandoliers, sheaths and... wait I think that is it.

You put the appropriate type of ranged ammo into your ranged ammo slot and the appropriate weapon into your ranged weapon slot and then use your ranged attack hotkey in order to "pull" using that method.

You can also proxy pull, or pull with CAs of course; depending on mob aggro radius and whether or not they are social, of course.

Generally it's safest (as far as avoiding adds) to pull only via proximity, but focused strike, AE taunt, and a hex doll can also be good ways to pull a mob.

Proximity pulls are important only in a few places. Most encounters will completely ignore you if you attack an encounter right next to them, but sometimes when you attack an orc he'll bring nearby orc encounters. You avoid that by getting close enough to agro him without doing anything to him. Once he's safely away from his buddies, you can taunt/debuff/etc him, but not until he's a good distance away.

Who needs bow and weak knife when you can punch the very air into your opponent?

Use the secret art of focused strike and mock your foes for their reliance on weak weapons and puny yells.

Mustafa Boone

Level 38 Mater of Kerra-Jutsu

I also tend to use Focused Strike when I need to separate a foe farther from others. Might as well do a little damage while you get their attention from a range.

I like to prox pull and gain hate with a group buff while heading back still at full speed.

I use AE taunt 95% of the time. The rest is proximity. It probably depends on if you are solo or grouped. I have never soloed so pulling without taunt is out of the question almost all the time. Ask the buffers what they think about pulling without taunt, especially the chanters and druids

(chanters have a fix coming for that though)

Huh.. I almost always pull with Throwing axes.. I mean 99% of the time.. But since I only pull when soloing.. its not a big deal.. I rarely am the puller or MT for any group I am in. I don't group much anyways, simply due to time issues.. I'm either raiding.. or soloing.

I prefer range pulls outside and taunt pulls inside. Body pulls are definately needed for social helpers but are also the slowest (versus range pull). For body pulling (proximity), you need inch up to the mob group, get fairly close, wait for them to aggro, the runback will be longer, and mobs get free whacks on the runback. So if they dont social help, I will range pull, followed by a few taunts before I get back to the camp.

-Jenjer
