does higher mitigation works better against spells? i had an argument over with that, and it seemed logical however annoying, because mit tooltip says how much damage is abosrbed in %, or something like that.

now isn't that a little cranky for us monks? that means that ANY monk will not be able to tank ANY caster as well as same lvl warrior classed which could be even at much lower lvls.

monks are supposed to be good DPS'ers...then how come my lvl 22 beserker is better than my 29 monk?(besides eq)

meaning he kills faster.

oh and they cant really tank, espcially if the assumption against casters is correct.

i'm losing my identity as helpful monk to the fantasy community...so what's up with monks

and who can tell me of great achievments with thier mid-lvl monk which are better than guardains/besrk/pally/SK/etc of the same LVL and finance<<<

few things..

1. spells are affected by reistances, not mitigation.

avoidance: how well you avoid (chance to take zero damage) physical attacks

mitigatoin: how well you reduce (dmg * 1-mit%) physical attacks

resistances: chance to avoid spells

2. when you see a guy 5 lvls below you with "more" mitigation or avoidance %s, that is based on level. you must go by the hard #s. and if a guy 5 levels below you has more mitigation than you.. you probably need an equipment upgrade. (at 42 i usually am about equal to a tier 4 guardian in mitigation)

3. we arent mitigatoin tanks. we are avoidance tanks. avoidance means more than mitigatoin when it comes to taking damage. the difference between 60% avoidance and 80% avoidance is a bigger difference than 30% mitigatoin and 60% mitigation, thats just how the numbers work out. that said.. at higher raid levels, guardians are too basically avoidance tanks since everything they can buff n wear add to avoidance and not mitigation -- but this is subject to change.

4. monks can tank.. i have tanked every mob in the game under level 45 that i can think of, and mobs as high as lvl 49 named. named, heroics, solos, epics.. (note: im only 42..)

Message Edited by woode on 06-09-2005 05:07 PM

As I understand it, Mitigation does nothing toward reducing spell damage, for anybody. If you want to reduce spell damage, beef up your Resists. I'm almost certain that Spell Avoidance determines whether or not a spell lands and Resists determine how much a landed spell is mitigated. I know for a fact (because it was changed and dev-posted some time ago) that Resists mitigate DoT damage. As far as the rest of your post ...I love the Monk but I feel it's currently badly gimped as a Tank. I played a Fighter up to a level 21 Monk and then shelved him after the January '05 Agi nerf. I then took a Berserker up to 36 and my, goodness, what a difference. I still miss my Monk, though, and I may pick him up again after the Big Combat Revision to see how he plays.
