<DIV>   Well today we beat the  prrxxvvvyyzzxx(or what ever the hell the name was of the evil meat spinner) and the eye in meeting of the minds instance and this tower shield dropped with the 20% haste on it ( not bad for a coffee table; make one hella knee board maybe /shrug) and got me thinking about the riposte % for tanking. I think I recall FamMan parsing about 5% solid in ripostes and was just curious as to how much haste is too much. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>   For monks this doesn't seem to be too much a problem(maybe this post woulda have been better in the guardain forum  but i'll be damned if im retyping it now(those who know me and my craptactular typing skills from the monk channel understand this)) being that we in general tank group encounters where extended battles are not an issue (rather we dont want them to be an issue) and ripostes do alot less damage than a raid encounter. So being maxxed hasted at all times plays to our favor ie: the faster we kill the better off we are for the most part.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>    However is there a limit to haste even on a slower 2hndr when tanking that ripostes can become a serious factor  and more to the point how does this efect not just the brawlers but other fighters as well. Maybe my math is screwy but a guard with say an fbss(<edit> haste on the sash is 15% if i recall but alrdy did numbers so bear with me please) and a 20% haste tower shield is 40% haste so for every 10 unhasted swings said guardian swings 14. Maybe this means lil but in a long dragged out raid i think this could come into play more. Using the shield ,  the fbss and the  Made-Up Weapon of Might (<edit> for sake if i was wrong with the sash haste % assume this has 5% haste also) 1hndr with a 2.0 delay (number used for my ease of use) so unhasted one minute is 30 swings  hasted 42 now the difference seems more there by  even in 10 minute raid thats 300 vs 420;  thats a hella lotta xtra swinging and if 5% is the about the number of  base of ripostes that one recieves that can be one large [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] load of damage taken ( be easy here and say generic_raid_dude ripotses for 1k) that could figure to be the difference of 15 k vs 20 k plus in damage....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>  So fire away here; like to see thoughts on this for group tanking raid tanking all of it ; besides been a bit dull in here lately</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>     Or im just looking into this too much cause its late and i cant sleep..in any case its all just disscusion that we might all learn something at this point ..also love to hear some thoughts from raid tanking types of all fighter classes and how they weigh in on the issue ..esp the number crunchers .</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Rolangard Frostfist ; Slayer of Fairies </DIV> <DIV>toxxulia's favorite lvl 50 barbarian monk</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

I found an average of about 5% riposte under tightly controlled circumstances, that's correct.I have no experience with higher levels, but I would speculate that in most non-raid situations a Monk would welcome as much Haste as s/he could get. IMHO DPS is part of how a Monk holds aggro so the higher you can crank your DPS the better. Nearly all non-raid fights are over quickly enough that ripostes aren't significant. In a raid situation I'd think that, if anything, a Monk MT would want to be as <i>slow</i> as possible. As you point out, in a long, drawn-out fight, riposte damage will <i>not</i> be negligible. Most of a Monk's aggro in a raid would come from taunts and CAs with extra effects (those that will affect raid mobs, anyway) and CAs are unaffected by haste or slow. Most of the DPS against a raid mob will come from other characters, too, so reducing the Monk MT's DPS isn't going to hurt much.BTW, I haven't seen it proven, but I believe I've seen some strong indication that a Riposte is basically a critical Parry. Therefore, anything that can debuff a raid mob's Parry skill would be a Very Good Thing, especially with a Monk MT, since it would reduce the number of ripostes as well.
