<DIV>Being a monk is like being a bench player in basketball. If your team is up 30 points, starters are hurt, sick or just plain missing in action you get in the game.  Once in the game if you have a good night... Great, do it again next time you have the chance to get in.  If you have a bad game, see that is why your a bench player. But either way, see ya at practice so you can help the starters do their best.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Being a zerker is like being a starter in basketball.  If the game is on the line, its playoffs or any close normal game your on the floor.  If you have a good game it was expected.  If you have a bad game, coach says shake it off, you just had a bad night and your starting again next week.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For now</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Other then wanting to have a challenge there are very little pros to a monk vs a zerker.  we get fiegn death and inviz. they are competitive in dps they are better at taking dmg, they get more hps, taunt ability, multiple mob specials. can use shields, 1h, 2h, dw.   We arguably do more dmg, Avoid more vs same lvl mobs, however avoidence becomes practically useless vs higher con mobs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>After the combat revamp?  who knows.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I would say choice a monk if you want to knowingly have hard times as a char.  Dont mind taking a backseat in your primary roll or at least can accept taking a backseat. Wish to get odd tells like.. Are you a healer, caster or we need evac, you can do that right?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you want a chance at Tanking All End game mobs go zerker, if you want a chance at tanking with other fighter classes in your group same lvl wearing plate. go zerker. You want other to know your a tank and can take a hit. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All in all, being a monk isnt something ya do because you want to be THE Tank.  its something ya do because ya want to be A Monk.  That way you will be able to live with the good and the bad of the class rather then making a char based on the bad.</DIV>

From my perspective:Monk Pros:<UL><LI>Excellent damage (particularly for a Fighter) on single targets</LI><LI>Okay Tank.</LI><LI>Feign Death (handy at times but not at all uber)</LI><LI>Invisibility (for one Tier, anyway, enjoy it while you have it)</LI><LI>Lots of "coolness" things: martial-arts looks, nifty weapons (that other classes don't bother using), being able to tank in <i>Light armor!</i>, etc.</LI></UL>Monk Cons:<UL><LI>Aggro management (not undoable but you got to work at it)</LI><LI>Hit streaks - you'll see times when your health goes down really fast because the mob got lucky, then you'll see times when your health barely moves because the mob got unlucky</LI><LI><i>Merely</i> an okay tank - <i>very</i> hard to compete for "Best Tank" even as a good player</LI><LI>Convincing others that you <i>are</i> a tank</LI></UL>Berserker Pros:<UL><LI>Aggro Kings when only half trying, Aggro Gods when paying attention and really working your class</LI><LI>Excellent damage against large groups of mobs (4+)</LI><LI>Very good tank, readily able to compete for "Best Tank" rep as a good player</LI><LI>Can wear heavy armor, use just about any weapon you want</LI></UL>Berserker Cons:<UL><LI>Hard to keep from pulling aggro when you <i>don't</i> want to (i.e., when you're not main tank)</LI><LI>Tend to get stunned/stifled a bit more at 30+ as mobs' CAs with stuns/stifles land more often on a Berserker than on a Monk</LI></UL>I really can't think of any other Beserker cons at the moment.Keep in mind that all of the above are subject to change with the Big Combat Revision SOE is working on right now. Of course, who knows when that will go live; my personal best guess is 3 to 6 months, but that's only a guess. Also, be aware that Berserkers are more likely than Monks to get hit with a nerf in the future, in my opinion. They're supposed to be Tanks, thus 3rd in the damage ranking (Mages > Rogues > Fighters > Priests) but Berserkers do quite a bit of damage, even after 3 or 5 nerfs, against large groups of mobs. We'll see.

<P>for what its worth.. i parsed my group last night.  i was 39 and the zerker was lvl 40 tanking..</P> <P>me: 113.2dps (spikes of up to 188 dps)</P> <P>zerker: 169.1dps (spikes of up to 218 dps)</P> <P>for comparison, the 42necromancer was doing 112+58dps and the 38wizard was doing 172dps.</P> <DIV>thats over the course of about 4 hours.  when we started i was 38 and he was 39.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>he had about 1.2k more hp, 20% more mitigation, 8% less avoidance.  all my gear is fabled/legendary, his was all legendary.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>right now berserkers are quite possibly the most overpowered class in the game if you ask me... 'sad but true'.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"on the plus side, we can fill the DPS role doing less than the tank and less than DPS classes"  :smileysad:</DIV>

Not sure what ya'll are doing. I've duoed with a zerker a lot. Same lvl, pretty equal gear. If I want aggro, I never lose it to him. I pretty much always out damage him. we've parsed it both with and without using specials.  You guys do know that you can upgrade your skills beyond app I, right? Personally I love playing my monk, and never have trouble finding a group if I want. I duo with lower levels to PL them, and almost everyone says it's the fastest XP they've seen in game. Never played a zerker, so I'd really check their boards for good info on them, but as far a being a monk: Pros: + Easily soloable. Been killing orange solos as long as I can remember. Kill lvl 45-46 groups with minimal problems. 45s very rarely hit you. + Good general skills. Wind walk, Mend, FD, Safe fall. All come in handy at times. Saved MTs on raids a few times with a quick mend. FD has multiple uses that make it probably my favorite skill. + As a raid skill, Silent Fist + interrupts are extremely handy. Many classes have a stifle, but it does affect epics. Ours is very short term, but when used properly with your interrupts can pretty much shut down a mobs special attacks. Not completely mind you, but enough to seriously reduce the dmg on the MT. + You do a LOT of damage when you want. + On solo mobs, if you want aggro, you got it. Great for yanking a mob off a caster. Taunt, Stun, Stifle, Dot, High dmg and the mob is pretty p.o'd at you. Cons:  = Mitigation does suck, and the above poster is 100% right about the streaks. One Mob you're Godly and barely scratched, the next the Healer is OOM trying to save you. =Wind walk(our invis) doesn't have an upgrade yet. So it doesn't work on higher lvl mobs. =High maintenance class. You need to upgrade. Get armor, weapons and skill up. your not a wiz, who can run around in grey gear + GEBS and solo 50^^s. = Our Group Taunts need some work. Very low aggro + long recast. You need to get creative on holding/taking group aggro. If pulling I taunt, and throw on a buff on the way to group. Then Group attack, Taunt again. All in all I love the class, and really have no desire to start an alt, while many others at 50 decided they don't like their characters and started new ones. Keep in mind if you do start a monk, lvl 40+ is vastly different from lower lvls. You really come into your own in your 40s. Spider Stance, Lunging Mongoose, Icy Talon, Everburning Fire and finally Silent Fist. Be excited about every one of them. <div></div>

i wasnt sayin were bad.. i have no problem tanking, it just dissapoints me that zerkers especially can do it effortlessly.  yes.. all my skills from 3-19 are adept 1, 20-39 are adept 3 with spider stance, rapid swings (tier 2 but great for epics), darting sparrow and swooping hawk at master 1. <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>if anything i think monks are balanced its some others that are overpowered.. but i dont wanna say too much and turn this into a nerf _____ thread.</DIV>

Only go Brawler if you specifically want a Martial Artist style character. Game mechanics currently provide no reason to prefer a Brawler over a Berserker in any situation ( i can think of right now, anyway ). That's not to say Brawlers suck, if the Kung Fu theme is your thing you'll likely enjoy it. Zerkers currently have a considerably easier time in groups and raids though, soloing is about equal. <div></div>

The Zerker just builds too much hate in the time it takes to kill the first one, even when the kill is fairly quick. As near as I can tell a Monk keeps a group of mobs' aggro best by switching among the group-members, tossing in a Taunt and a few high-aggro (often high-damage) attacks at each. It works but it requires more effort than my Berserker who, save for adds, focuses on one group-member at a time and concentrates on Berserks and group-effects, like AOE attacks and buffs.
