I'm not sure if this has been asked yet, but I'm curious about it now. what is the difference between something that increases attack speed vs something that increases Damage per second. IE: Spider Stance vs Winding Dragon. Winding Dragon increases Damage per Second by 4% Spider Stance increases Attack Speed by 11% both are App4, and with the decreases in Winding Dragon, I can't see a reason to use it except for the +10 to tranquility, which I don't think is worth the drop in the offensive skills. if someone can help me with this, I would be most appreciative.

I haven't tested this but I read somewhere on these boards that a CA that claims a DPS increase modifies the damage your weapon does; the poster claimed that you could inspect your weapon before and after and see the difference.I've also read that a CA that improves your Attack Speed modifies your weapon's Speed; again, you should be able to see the difference if you inspect your weapon before and after. As far as I know nothing can affect your CA casting speed.

We were talking about this in monk chat, and we came to the conclusion that Winding Dragon is better when offtanking and Spider Stance is better when tanking.

Why?

Because the increase in tranquility for WD stacks with the increase of Transcendant Vision (watch your Quiet Purity buff - it goes from green to gray) and the increase in tranquility allows all of your arts to hit for more damage.

However, the increase in attack speed of Spider Stance does *not* stack with the increase of attack speed of Everburning Fire, so really with spider stance all you are getting is the def/deflection buffs which you won't be using much as an offtank probably.

So therefore WD will allow you to do more damage when in an offtank role.

The last couple of raids I've switched and I've seen an increase in my damage numbers with winding dragon over spider stance, and my buffs like quiet purity are buffing for more.

My 2cp.

I have yet to notice the improved damage output (it might change con color of art but the min/max damage descriptions stay the same) from increased tranquility and therefore am quite dubious to the benefits it provides. On the flip side, Winding Dragon does lower your physical attack rating (and ability to hit the mob) and I would prefer having Spider's Stance up for those occasional times you might get aggro. Also, I am willing to bet the increased avoidance from Spider's Stance enhances the avoidance buff that Transcendant Vision gives and therfore be better for the tank.

-Jenjer

Winding Dragon increases defense by 10, so I doubt the extra 5 from spider stance makes a difference for TV buff, but whatever floats your boat

dont forget the extra 15 to deflect too, something winding dragon doesnt give.

I saw about a 10% damage decrease when using WD vs. SS against level 54ish mobs, which I attribute to the -melee modifier on WD.

Never upgraded my WD but atm at app3 its neg 8 crushin, slashin peircin etc

So losing 1.8 lvls on hit factor doesnt seem like its worth it for the added tranquility, esp when the dps doesnt stack with purity. I.e wont we miss more. However would it be > if your usual play is spammin every CA u have?(on raids) Since youll be meleeing less anyways, and your CA's will do more dmg with the added tranquility?
