From this unofficial post of LU#9b (thanks, Jezekiell!):*** Dueling ***- Now you can challenge enemies or allies to a duel!- Targeting another player and typing /duel sends them an invitation to battle.- You can fight in any location, whether it be in a city, inside a house, outdoors, or in the deepest dungeon.- To give up before the death blow is landed, type /duel_surrender to end the duel.- If two players are battling and one zones, camps, or goes linkdead, that player surrenders the duel.- The outcome of the duel is broadcast to everyone in the zone, whether it be death or surrender.- Be warned: Dying in a duel results in the same penalties as death to an NPC. You will drop a shard, incur XP debt, and take damage to your equipment. Nobody said duels were without risk.- You can neither offer nor accept a duel if:- You are in the same group as the potential opponent.- Either of you is considering another duel challenge.- Either of you is currently dueling someone else.- Either of you is locked to an encounter.- Either of you is on the hate list of an NPC.- Either of you is currently dead.- Either of you is on the other's ignore list.- Either of you is on a griffin.- Dueling tests not only the abilities of your class, but how well you play it. Let the battle begin! So what do you think of that?
Message Edited by FamilyManFirst on 05-24-2005 08:09 PM

I think the playerbase is finally going to be able to Beta test some of the more suspicious abilities (Stifling kick etc) for durations, full effects. etc. CC classes will dominate all duels with no CC immunities. Overall 2-3 months after duels are introduced we will see alot of fixes that should have been in the production product. Lets just hope they do not get stupid an try to balance PVP...

Message Edited by Elmomo on 05-19-2005 01:23 PM

I'm looking forward to pouncing on a human monk friend of mine...hee hee hee...I'm short, so he won't see me coming!

Personally, I think this will be fun. I've toured some of the bigger inn rooms and stuff and there are some that have this awesome arena type space that would make a PERFECT dueling arena. I'm looking forward to having one for my guild and can envision us having a lot of fun smacking each other around and seeing who comes out on top. Muahaha!

Elmomo wrote:Lets just hope they do not get stupid an try to balance PVP...

Moorgard has said that EQII is set up so that CAs and Spells can have different effects in PvP vs. PvE. If balancing happens (and it will, no doubt) it shouldn't affect PvE. Cross your fingers, anyway!Oh, here's the post where Moor said that.

I think this could be a lot of fun, however i don't have faith in the EQ2 community. There are a lot of very immuature people out there who will spam in OOC for duels, or make fun of people not wanting to duel etc..
Message Edited by woode on 05-19-2005 05:45 PM

Well Monks are known for their ability to stun and interupt which should be excellent.

Although not many people know what monks can do which would give us the upper hand :smileywink:
However I really wouldn't want to go up against a ranger or assassin, that would equal being kited and basically us just sitting their, unless we keep Wind Walk handy to get that upper hand (Predators don't get See Invis do they?)

This will be interesting to see which class begins crying first, although Swashbucklers allready did that and PvP hasnt been introduced :smileyvery-happy:

Those we fight will know 1-2 tactics we use, after the fact. That doesn't mean everyone will. It also doesn't mean we should start a guide on "tactics will use in Duels" so that others can begin working on counters. This is a monk board, we know our skills, the only people this will be news to is those we're going to fight.

we should create a secret monk board.. with a secret password.. and only monks can get in :smileywink:

This will be fun. The 50 Ranger in my guild was already challenged me. I think I will get a T5 snare doll and then he will be dead. No kiting + no flanking = very dead ranger.

im guessin wiz/warlocks, and rogues are gonna be the toughest to deal with. they have snares/roots and have some pretty nasty ranged spells of which rogues can cast on the run.

Ha, catch arrows! Remember the Fist of the Northstar? (The comic, not the movie.) The Two-Fingered Grasp of Nil-space, I think it was called. Very uber.

In thinking about it further...your high avoidance / parry might be a big problem for us ranged types. Hell, if a frigging TURTLE can parry my 800+ damage Triple Shot, you should have no problem just knocking my fun outta the air and then coming up and kicking me in the junk. Except that we (should) generally move faster than you, and at least three of my melee attacks can hit you from farther away than you can hit me. So if you're going into battle against a ranger, bring your Nikes.

And to clear up anyone who thinks I'm just trolling... I am. But I'm trolling for a reason, and she's a damned cute reason.

Heads up ... looks like duels won't be coming with LU#9 after all.Moorgard posted about it here.Basically, it's still rough around the edges and they want to polish it. No ETA is given, but Moor stated that it would likely be "several updates from now." Whatever that means .So it's on the way, but still a ways off yet.
