Don't listen to the guys saying you don't do DPS. I'm 45 at the moment and having been outdamaging Characters 5-6 lvls above me for a LONG time. If they are not doing decent DPS, they need to learn to play the class. As for scouts, Yes good DPS, BUT they cannot solo near as well as monks, and if a red mob turns on them in group they're toast. Mages? Again good DPS, and like scouts important in groups, but drop very fast when the get a mobs attention. All around I love the versatility of the Monk class: I can Tank, DPS, Solo, Save the day with Mend often, have self invis, can use FD for multiple situations, and tons of other things. But, if you're complacent and rarely upgrade gear and skills, you'll be 2nd class  any player who keeps himself up to date and plays their class  well. Read the various Monk boards, expiriment, upgrade gear often(I'm almost always poor), and just enjoy the class. It is a blast. You'll be a popular groupmate for you're versatility, trust me. <div></div>

<DIV>I am working on an Erudite monk, and I'm having a blast.  I'm curious though, does your choice of race affect your class much at higher levels?  I'm fine with it if I'm gimped though, because I'm RPing a magically talentless Erudite - so thats fun.  Anyway, glad to see others are enjoying things as well.</DIV>

IMO , race has little to no effect at all in EQ2 which i like very much.

<P>Race has a HUGE impact:</P> <P>1)  I have drowned zoning into Vermin's Snye and Crypt of Betrayal.</P> <P>2) Visability is poor in dungeon groups, can't see the mobs through the forest of legs and [Removed for Content].</P> <DIV>3) I can't see whats on the [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] top shelf.</DIV>

All classes can do DPS of some sort.  Its not like a guardian tanks something without ever hitting it and then gets jealous when we do damage.  First and foremost, we are tanks.  Yes, we can do decent damage.  No, we cannot sustain it for long periods of time.    Get in a fight that lasts longer than 30 seconds and see how easy it is to outdamage that scout 5 levels higher than you. This whole debate is just stupid.  The next time you're grouping with a plate tank run a parser.  Check out your average DPS with him tanking, then switch off and tell him you're going to parse his dps and see how much he does while you are tanking.  The difference is NOT that big.  I have actually seen a Guardian outdamage me and all my gear is orange or yellow and all my combat arts are adept or better. <div></div>

When I tank my DPS sucks. I am using control breathing, stuns, group buffs, and taunts. When monks are not the MT then I am using everburing fire and all my attacks. Also I routinely out DPS good scouts but rarely out DPS a good mage or an excellent scout. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sysiphus or Guk</DIV> <DIV>47 Monk/50 Provisioner</DIV>

<DIV>My regular group include me and another monk.  While I was a few levels lower and he was always MT, I was regularly outdamaging him by a good 33% or so.  Now I'm a level ahead and he's outdamaging me by the same margin.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I've got a million billion parsed logs with us fighting together for levels, though combatstats doesn't currently let you show DPS on archived fights.  If I can find a good display for the data I'll be sure to post it.</DIV>

Yes, people do like to exaggerate. We are a decent dps class and heck we can even roll in the numbers, but we are definately not as good as people perceive <div></div>
