I currently rolled my first tank. Since I like dealing damage I was attracted by the whole concept of th monk who gets the best of both worlds. Now I hit level 10 and can't decide which Training to take. Which one will be the most usefull all the way up to level 50? Velans sounds good, because it is an AE-Taunt, but I don't know if it will be on the same timer as the taunts I get later in the game or simply way too weak to make any diffrence in the higher levels. Thanks for your input.

Velans taunt shares a timer with Shout but iirc Velans is an 8second Adept2.If you want to tank (and I think you should be) then Velans is a good choice (I chose it)

Get Velan's. I still use it about half the time at 45. It takes a really tiny amount of power and refreshes fast so I hit it frequently to ensure that I keep agro. I use my bigger taunts if I lose agro.

I went with Lu'Sun's, but then I'm also usually in dps mode. I have no problems tanking, but dps is so much more... relaxing.

You're playing the wrong class then. Go to the scout forum or mage forum if you want to dps.

I picked lusun's also hoping for a new kick animation. I sure got it, too bad I upgraded it right away :smileysad:

Also good thing about velans besides the 8sec casting time (you would be amazed how much better a taunt is if its recharge is faster), is that its low power and you'll probably see yourself using it many many levels after to complete quick HO's

To Colin,

You being a new monk I have to warn you,

Don't let people here hear you say you think your monk can DPS. In their eyes it will show your ignorance of the monk. MONKS ARE TANKS AND TANKS ONLY...NOT DPS...enjoy your monk...but do it secretly

Message Edited by Amanojakae on 03-27-2005 07:14 PM

Well enjoy your DPS before SoE take it away from us. I have to say I think its naive to start a monk for DPS. Monks will soon be behind 11 other classes for DPS, yep, 12th best DPS, gotta love it.
