love it, but would further **trivialize encounters** considering that tanking is just mashing taunt anyway in some respects...

Part of playing this game is learning how to manage arggo properly, both to gain it and also to lose it. Having a threat meter would trivalize all this and further dumb down the game. Sorry, but that's a bad idea.

Wow that would be actually really cool. A small bar that is blue at the beginning, and red at end of hate meter. (Red or end of bar would mean how close you are to being top of list)

yeah but it would make the game predictable considering that there are is no AI in game to actually make a difference, its just a trigger for scouts and wizard to be able to say

nuke nuke nuke nuke nuke, stop nuking. nuke nuke nuke nuke... the button mashing is simple enough, the last thing we need is people staring at the top of thier screen button mashin.

I think it is a great idea. I'm going to start eating Hot Pockets! But alas! I would probably not use it as I like the mystery. I wonder if they would be able to code a mod for that. I dobt that code is in .xml format.

Tanking is relatively easy as is atm (imo) i think that although I would like this at the start, after a month or so i think it would be very boring

Its a good idea regardless, making the game easier or harder is a different matter.

The current system now is just fine. Adding a "hate meter" would take out alot of the guess work and seat of the pants aggro control that alot of older mmorpg vets have and what seperates the good players from the button-mashing noobs.

I coudnt help but think about people who bought ebayed their toons for EQ1 and started playing them....you could always tell they were ebayed because they didnt have the "instinct" that someone would have if they played the toon for countless hours. I guess what this is touching on is that by demystifying the game to such an extent, does that really just make it so robots can play the game as well as a good person behind the keyboard? Sounds like most people would agree that an mmorpg should be more than just mechanical. Still a good thought, tho!

I gotta agree this is a bad idea. Its easy enough to know if your loosing agro when the implied target window either appears (if you Main tank) or Dissappears. If you are lvl 30+ and do not understand how the aggro dynamic works you should probably try a different game. Just as agro radius, barrage etc are part of fighting so is agro.

Points for creative thinking, but I have to weigh in on the "bad idea" side. Learning to manage Aggro, including inside groups and without meters, is part of the challenge of the game. Put in a meter and you make the game that much more mindless.

in core content it woudlnt be a really big deal considering that most fights dont last beyond 3 mins max, now on the other hand, in a raid situation, in an epic fight situation, or something of that nature, it would be overkill.

Now on the other hand if i pull my creativity bag out,

it wouldnt be so bad if mobs had an individual red line underneath each mobs head in addition to its HP bar so that we dont know each others hate production with the mobs, but we can see our own so that we know where we stand in comparison to the mob directly.

that wouldnt be that bad, and would make tanking easier, in some respects, so when actually paying attention, caster/dps will know when to cut back and tanks will know when to taunt harder.

that wouldnt be that bad IMO, and it would make things a bit easier to see where you are on an individual basis with the mob.

On the one hand, I really have no beef with someone else playing the way they want to play. On the other hand, aggro management is one way to separate the skilled players from the unskilled, as it were. If the option were there how many groups would let a Tank play without the meter up, do you think? Not many, IMHO.I'm going to tentatively stick with my, "No, I don't think it's a good idea." stance, but I'm open to argument.

Thanks FMF, you are always one of the most courteous posters.

but...

How would groups know if the tank (or anyone else for that matter, seeing as it would affect any and every class) actually was using his meter or not?

You've got to keep on the red side!""I don't use the hate meter; I don't like it."/ooc Group looking for Tank!

SageMarrow wrote:in core content it woudlnt be a really big deal considering that most fights dont last beyond 3 mins max, now on the other hand, in a raid situation, in an epic fight situation, or something of that nature, it would be overkill. Now on the other hand if i pull my creativity bag out,it wouldnt be so bad if mobs had an individual red line underneath each mobs head in addition to its HP bar so that we dont know each others hate production with the mobs, but we can see our own so that we know where we stand in comparison to the mob directly.that wouldnt be that bad, and would make tanking easier, in some respects, so when actually paying attention, caster/dps will know when to cut back and tanks will know when to taunt harder.that wouldnt be that bad IMO, and it would make things a bit easier to see where you are on an individual basis with the mob.

Sage, I'm afraid I have real trouble following your posts (you really tend to ramble) so at best I tend to skim them, but since you asked I bore down and read this one. This idea might work or it might not. I'm not sure how a meter that just represented a "hate number" would work. How would you define the high end cutoff? From the buff descriptions it looks like hate just keeps building up as the fight progresses (with the sole exception of deaggro buffs) and the player that's got the highest number is the mob's current target. Moreover, you could still get conversations like the one above, but it would be more along the lines of, "You've got to keep that red line going up!"It's not a horrible idea but, IMHO, the bad aspects outweigh the good ones.
Message Edited by FamilyManFirst on 03-25-2005 05:38 PM

well yeah i dont doubt that, i wouldnt consider it the best idea ever, but rather than striking it down with the wrath of zeus, i gave it a second thought and that was what i came up with.

but as far as the high end cut off, lol = make it like dragon ball z so that anything named or ^^^ can hide its power level.. or

hate-o-meter,,

either way, it wouldnt make a big difference and you are right- would dumb down whats already dumbed down enough.

and sorry for the post being so hard to follow, i type fast and dont use punctiuation since i dont think its that neccessary in these situations and putting my point out there is more important that punctuation and conciseness, but hey for that matter i could type just as fast and cut out 5-6 sentences and pump out post even faster!!!!

if we take sage's idea of a little bar under thier helth, and make it shows only your percentage of the total hate on a mob, it might work.taunts add hate, and so do all the other skills, this little meter would shoy your % of the total hate on teh mob, you wouldnt see anyone elses, so it might not dumb down the game that much.
