- Hand to hand weapons now use the crushing skill to determine how well you wield them. The damage type of cestus weapons is piercing, metal claws are slashing, and metal knuckles are crushing.

My only question is.. what metal claws? I haven't seen a metal claw, unless they're referring to the spiked cestus or something... can someone enlighten me?

Haven't seen any claws either.. but it figures everything now goes to crushing skill the day *after* I spend a few hours beating on greys to increase my slashing skill.

So now that all of the weapons we use, use crushing.... why do we have slashing and piercing skills? We can't wield any weapons that use those skills anymore can we?

Read it again. Cestus are indeed weapons that we can use and those use piercing.

When they say hand-to-hand weapons, I'm betting they meant fistwraps.

You and me both, Harpax.

Piercing and Slashing will be delegated to "artifacts of our progression", I'm sure. Since we had them when we were just fighters. Maybe one day the'll come back and remove them since, after this patch, they mean nothing to us.

So, reading those notes, cestus will be piercing, claws slashing (if we ever find claws?), knuckles crushing.. where does that put handwraps? =P

Velorek,

The way I'm reading the patch notes, which may be wrong, is that they changed all of our weapons that are hand-to-hand (fistwraps, cesti, knuckles, etc.. anything not a staff or mace) to use the Crushing skill to 'hit', even though the weapon itself may deal different damage (slashing for claws, piercing for cesti, etc). This would make our having piercing and slashing skills useless, since they would not be used for determining "to-hit" (only Crushing will be from here on).

Handwraps wasn't mentioned specifically, and I ask because the handwraps I currently use do slashing damage =) Tho I really wanna find some nice looking claws.

As you said, handwraps currently use the slashing skill. The notes above state that they fixed these to now use crushing. What they are also stating is that cestus weapons should use piercing, metal claws should use slashing and metal knuckles should use crushing.

Not really sure how else to explain it.:smileysad:

Message Edited by Velorek on 03-21-2005 12:52 PM

Message Edited by Velorek on 03-21-2005 12:53 PM

My cestii uses slashing and I will let you all know if this is changed after the patch.

The way I am reading the patch note is that monk/bruiser weapons all changed to use crushing skill. The actual damage type will be different from weapon to weapon but the skill used will be crushing.

Now your proficieny with a weapon is based on the crushing skill, not the piercing or slashing skills. The type of damage your weapon does stays the same.

Cestii = slashing

Wraps = crushing

Cestus = peircing

All others = crushing

(wraps may do slashing, some are broken still)

Oh and the "metal claws" they are talking about is the various cestii out there. Feysteel Cestii and Cestii of the Master both have nice graphics that imply a "metal claw" image.

The only "real" pair of claws I have seen are Thulian Claws, but they still had cesti graphic.. I know there is a claw Graphic in the game though. Some of the FG's in Sol Eye wield claw like weapons.

Claw of the Chosen has the same graphic as Cestii of the Master (different than the Feysteel). The look I think we are talking about with claws is the three prong blade look (the feysteel has a single prong). Kharza 41 Monk Mistmoore

Noob quest in SC I think gives a weapon that looks like a "claw". Forget the name of it though. Its from the alchemist in one of the noob cities. Quest in DB I think. Been forever since I did it.

Fistwraps does crushing now as opposed to slashing. You still combine fists + damage type.

My Rock-Forged Cestii now does piercing damage. Not sure if every weapon with "cestii" in the name has been changed from slash to pierce, but that one has.

I'm definately confused with this change since last night I got the last 2 skill improves of slashing that I needed while using a Cestii. If they are using the crushing skill to determine how well you wield them, why the skill improve in slashing?

I guess I need to get myself a piercing weapon and check the attack rating. My piercing skill at 45, so I can check if my attack rating is the same as using crushing weapon or not.
