<DIV>I seem to be in a unique position. I could not care less about tanking. I only tank when I need to pull a mob from a caster or a priest, and the MT is having problems getting the aggro. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So now my issue seems to be, how is our DPS after the last major patch? Can we still be an effective addition to a group as a DPS? Any parses?</DIV>

Since I was focusing on taunts and some buffs to ensure I kept agro I am assuming that my DPS was not optimal... if I was focusing on using more of my specials I am guessing another 5-8 dps off of them. This is comparable to the level 25 ranger in group with me at the same time, and considerably less than the 41-49 dps the level 31 ranger was doing. (fyi, the shaman was doing 7-10dps <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> )My level 23 swashy was doing 23-25 dps last night as well, so it looks like for me my monk will come in second for DPS of my toons, with my swashy first and serk third... (have to run some more stats on the serk.. and his DPS sufferes horribly if he isn't MT, since he has to restrict his serking to prevent loss of agro from the MT, but his DPS suffers when he IS mt since I focus on taunts <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> )

<DIV>At lvl 38 [slime coated mace, wraith bone mace] I was consistantly neck and neck with a 43 dirge [pgt, sbd] fighting nightbloods in RV. The majority of the time i was slightly above, a few times i was below.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>A lvl 38 wizard did about half the damage we did and was near 1/2 energy most of the time, spell levels could have been a factor.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What's crazy is a lvl 36 warlock was smoking me a day before at the same level, he had 100-120 dps most of the time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am happy with our dps at the moment, but most of it comes from the wintery talon and darting sparrow lines... neither of which i've been able to use on epic mobs.</DIV>
I haven't really noticed any change (dirges were neck and neck with me in long fights pre patch). Of course I never had 500 STR either so that could be why. I still do respectable DPS from behind mobs (usually in the top 2 of a full group). Compairing yourself tanking to someone else that isn't tanking is apples and oranges though.
<DIV>If your strength is 100 or below your DPS will not have been effected in anyway by the last patch.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When comparing DPS, bards are not the best choice, since they are a buff class. A large amount of "their" DPS comes though adding a bunch to your strength/agi. If you're neck and neck with a bard for DPS in a group, the amount of group damage being contributed by the bard is blowing yours away.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At higher levels, my parses haven't indicated too much of a hit in DPS in your "normal" group. When buffed out the wazzoo, we now do less damage than we did before. But this does not affect many people outside the raid game.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>DPS doesnt seem to be a problem. At level 33 with dragon stance on and two ebon eye maces I can stay around 50 dps</DIV> <DIV>Havent had a chance to test everburning flame yet.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Yenyang Angrydragon</DIV> <DIV>33 Ogre Monk</DIV> <DIV>Kithicore</DIV><p>Message Edited by xripperx on <span class=date_text>02-24-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:34 AM</span>

<DIV>Spent about 4 hours in a group last night comparing me (36 monk) versus a 33 swash in terms of dps. I'd say it was 70/30 with me coming out on top (parse logs available on request) ...if we were equal level I'm guessing it would be swash coming out on top probably 95-100% of the time. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Nukers of about equal to my level easily out dps me. (I can win sometimes if I don't blink the entire time and chain everything and the nuker wasn't paying attention). But otoh those same nukers also end up dead 2 or 3 times a night from over aggro and the tank being unable to pull aggro off them.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Overall I'm pretty happy with monks place in the dps chain. I feel its where it should be given the other things we are able to do.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

I'm happy being neck and neck with a scout class 5 levels above me weilding 2 heratige weapons :smileytongue: I have no doubt any monk/bruiser his level would far exceed said dps.</DIV></DIV>
<DIV>if you want to compare mnk dps with other jobs in a fair way, better dont be MT </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>At 47, I am almost always in the top 2 for DPS in groups. It almost doesn't even matter what other classes I'm grouped with either. I've out-DPS'ed Scouts, Nukers, tanks, etc. I am currently using a pristine cedar bo to cut back on ripostes but occassionally swap in my 2 cedar quarterstaves for a change of pace. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As for some of the above comments, it's true about Dirges. Bards are arguably the best buffers in the game for melees but it comes at a trade-off to other things and DPS is certainly one of them. As you continue to level up, you should start to separate yourself more and more from them with regards to damage output.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Another note about Scouts...there is currently a bug in the game that allows Assassins to reach unbelievable levels of DPS. I'm talking about fights where they are reaching 500+ DPS compared to my typical 120-140 range. Several of the Assassins I have seen use it know it's not working as intended and that it will eventually probably be fixed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Lastly is Paladins. I'm not sure how they're doing it but Palys are capable of doing insane amounts of DPS. I was in a group in EF the other day doing TTs and we had a 42 Paladin with us. But even at a full 5 levels lower than me, he had several fights where he parsed just as high if not a little higher than me in DPS. Our parser only did about a dozen or so fights and on some occassions, the Paly was only able to achieve half of what he had been doing. And he wasn't AFK or anything either. I think what it shows is that while Palys CAN reach high levels of DPS, they aren't able to sustain those high levels consistently for long periods of time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyway, food for thought.</DIV>
