<DIV>I just hit lvl 20 Monk last night and have been very happy with the class thus far. My DPS seems awesome. I was paired up with a Pally and we were kicking some butt. My only complaint at this point is that I tend to run out of power rather quickly when fighting larger mobs. Currently my power is 480 which seems low to me. After a few Rapid Swings, Flying Dragon Kicks, Bruising Strikes etc I'm out of power. The Pally on the other hand still has 50-60% power left. I'm not sure if they were using any special attacks or just slugging through it though. I'm interested to hear others comments about their power attributes at lvl 20 compared to mine along with how well they are able to manage power during combat. Is their anything I can do in the future to help up my power attribute?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Jose - Half Elf Monk - Level 20</DIV>

<DIV>Since I have a 21 pally and a 29 monk I will say the pally has a lot less attack specials than you do, so it's most likely because you are banging out specials at a higher rate than he was</DIV>

<DIV>Its because power for a monk is based on strength. If you have a low strength you will blow through your power bar faster. </DIV>

<DIV>I am 24 with 750 power, i go through a cycle of combat arts that will genoraly drain me on the 4th set. I very rarely need it to last longer in a group tho.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>i start out with thrust kick followed by flying kick then swooping dragon next comes brusing strike then rapid swings Last i start a HO and complete it with force thrust and taunt .... thats round 1</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>By this time Thrust kick is just now up so i start with that followed by flying kick and then a second HO force thrust and taunt .......thats round 2</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>this round is identicle to the first as all the longer reuse are comming up as well.....round 3</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Forth round is usaly the last round i can sustain that sort of fury and is just like the second round... R4 ......... keep in mind this has been a full 60 seconds of non stop supra DPS from me and if the mob aint dead eather we shouldnt have been messing with it or my group members are all asleep at the keyboard.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At this point if mobs are still alive i will reduce my button mashing to just bruseing strike and swooping dragon.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I try and always keep wisdom of the zephil on its a real nice ability and eather brawlers stance ( if i dont trust the main tank of if i AM the main tank ) or our stun prock up. that leaves 2 concentration open for eather the agro reducer or intervien.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If i am main tank i prefer the slowers most powerful two handed weapon avalible to me ( pristien forged carbonite great mace ) and when i am not attacking from the front i use a duel wielding combonation of fistwraps primary ( the fastest weapon i have found usable to the monk class ) and celestii offhand ( the slowest DW weapon i could find for a monk) </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I share this with you becouse i wanted to give as detailed an example of what works for me as posible however you cannot hope to cut and paste anything like this and have it seamlessly intigrate into your own play style you should take time out and realy sit down and experiment with your own system. At level 20 i sugest you go to the antonican steppes station scarecrow fields and just kick the snot out of all them grenies till you come up with a good system for yourself. if they are too crouded go into black burrow and jump down the waterfall and kill them spiders. Both spiders and scarecrows have alot of HPs being ^^ mobs but couldnt hit you as a level 20 monk if you were naked and shivering in the cold thats about as safe as you get.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hope i was somewhat helpful ....please excuse my spelling and gramer. Im on permafrost look for Trask or Erualchemist if you have any other questions </DIV> <DIV>- you can still send cross server tells in EQ2 cant ya? -</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Philipmoris BiG ToBaCcO</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Hi ,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have had the same problem , until I bought some player made Drinks , </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>and at lvl 20+ u should be able to use lvl 30 drinks ( lvl 30 food/drinks are for players btwn 20-30)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>U will notice a HUGE differance in how u regen ur power pool btwn combat , since I am a wood elf monk </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am a more deffensive monk rather than offensive , anyhow fet some player made lvl 30 drinks , you will love it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also when u in a group there is no need to spam specials since its a gank fest on mob.</DIV>
You just have to learn how to conserve your power, spamming every attack skill you have will just drain your power to nothing, leaving you (almost) worthless as you just sit there and attack. At 27, the only attack skills i use are Swooping Dragon, Plotting Tortoise, and Rapid Swings. There are some exceptions (if they are casting, ill use Rushing Bear, or if i am losing the battle and i have spare power, ill spam them all), but Monks in general have a low power pool, since their main stat is AGI, not STR.

<DIV>No, a monks power pool is based off Strength.. just like all other warrior archtypes.</DIV> <DIV>As an Ogre I am constantly spamming my ablilities and never go OOP</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Depending on what I'm fighting I use different tactics. If I'm fighting a mob at or just above/below my level, I'll be a whirlwind of damage basically using my combat arts non-stop. I like to start off with a HO triggered with Swooping Dragon (get the DoT started early) and finished with Beslin's Posture (the slight haste taunt), then I hit Thrust Kick, then a couple seconds later Flying Kick, then Rapid Swings, then another HO with Focused Strike and Beslin's, then Thrust Kick, Flying Kick and Bruising Strike, though by the time I would hit Bruising Strike the fight would be over. If not, Swooping Dragon is usually back up, so I'll start the process again. After all that, I'll be down a few bars of power (2 usually, 3 max). The level 30 store-bought food does the trick for me, so I don't have too much downtime.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If I'm fighting a group of mobs (which would normally be greenies since the blues would kick my butt royally), I don't use the arts so much except for Phin's at the start of the fight and the occasional kick. Maybe Striking Cobra if there's a number of them (like when fighting swarm beetles or groups of 12 deer hehe). If there's a caster (like those [FaarNerfed!] Diviners), I'll just wail on it fast and hard till it drops, then take it easy on the others. They don't hit much if at all, so it doesn't matter if the fight lasts a bit longer. With the groups though I find that I can get down to like 1 bar after 4 or more mobs. Again, depending on what I'm fighting and whether I'm tank or grouped with a friend.</DIV>
<DIV>I usually wait 2 seconds between each special. You can still do some damage with standard attack. This will allow you to better manage your power. And once a mob hits red, I may stop specials to get a head start on regen. It's all relative but basically practice managing your power better.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>With the simple 2 second delay between specials you could reduce your power consumption in half for "standard" mobs. </DIV>

<DIV>If you aren't already, drink is your best friend. You will notice a huge jump in regen if you are only used to using store bought stuff to player made. You should find that even after spamming attacks in a group situation you'll be ready to go again much quicker and I've noticed there is always someone else in the group that we need to wait on (whether they have worse drink or are more power intensive).</DIV>
