Hi all! Ive finally activated my forum posting rights! So im now a level 24 monk, ive completed all of my AQ's. While im not extremely high level, and i havent done all the amazing things, heres what ive found =)First off, monks CAN tank, and they tank very well. In fact, i have several people who have added me to their friends lists because i do tank. I keep a few sets of gear on me, weapon wise. I keep some Dual Wield weapons, and then a Shield. I think that monks are the only class that can equip both a 2hb and a Shield (from what ive noticed, fists seem to act as a 2hb weapon! nice!) The ac shield bonus does help, i really like having it.If youre tanking, put on Brawlers Stance, or its upgrades. I also use this while soloing (i havent gotten many other stances, so this is just at level 24 atleast =). For example, just completing the monk quest, i was level 19, and talking to a fellow monk who had just completed his monk quest. Theres an enemy at the very end who you must fight, cons white at 19. he was telling me that it was a tough fight and good luck, that he came out with about 20% health left, and no power. He did NOT use Brawlers stance. I did the same fight, same level, but used Brawlers Stance. I had 90% life and 20% power at the end of it.Brawlers stance is nice, huh?As far as healing goes, a shaman is going to love you, a cleric is gonna have to change their tactics a little bit.Monks tend to take a lot of damage right at the beginning of a fight. Special moves tend to hit, and they hit hard. Its not uncommon to see me get hit for 400 damage with a single crushing blow from an enemy. But, after their special moves are done, i dont get hit, theres some recoup time for the healers to kinda relax. When you do tank, try not to let your health fall below 40%, because as previously mentioned, one well placed blow will drop you. Just inform your cleric that they need to be fast on Heals at the beginning, and dont treat you as a character who can take the hard hits. You dont need to take hard hits, you dodge them! yahoo!I am still teased by my friends when i am with them and tanking, theyre constantly ribbing me, saying "mebbe we should find a real tank" but in all honesty, they call on me to fill that role.--------As dps goes, youre good at it, but not the best, just steady damage. Youre the guy who will be able to constantly pump out a good supply of damage, with no real points in time where you will slump. For example, a wizard has nothing when they dont have power, you can run out of power, your dps decreases, but its still solid.--------Armour Class is still important! You cant mitigate much, but you dont wanna get hit, and when you do, its better to mitigate SOME than none, so keep that high!--------Be prepared to secondary tank if youre not the main tank. Tanks die, were supposed to take aggro, so we do, and sometimes, the roll of the dice just arent with us. If things start to look bad, throw on Brawlers Stance, and your shield, BEFORE the main tank dies. Ive saved so many groups doing this. In fact, theres been one group, just 2 days ago, that replaced the Pally tank with me, because he was dying and i was taking over anyhow. (I didnt die at all after the change btw). The best tactic with a plate tank also in your party, is to have THEM secondary tank, YOU main tank. They cast intervene on you.Think about it? youre almost never hit, thats your bonus over plate tanks. You do take a crap ton of damage when you do get hit though. So why not let the plate tank take those hits and mitigate them to nothing? So now you have the best of both worlds, not only are you rarely hit, but the ones that do land, have a chance of being mitigated by another tank!!!--------Im still working out pulling, i tend to get over my head to often =)Well, thats what ive learned thus far, dont be afraid to Tank, dont be afraid to die. Take a few levels and test some things, learn what your class can do! Dont know what a skill does? try it a few times, on several different types of enemies! See what buffs do what, stack with what, and which are better. Check which weapons are the best for you! Do you want a 2hb? 1hb? Dual Wield? Does speed matter? whats 1 tenth of a second equate to?Play your class have fun, dont sweat the small stuff. Monks are a fantastic class!-EDIT: Something i DONT know, What the heck the skill Tranquility does. More later!
Message Edited by Uccello on 12-18-2004 10:59 PM
Message Edited by Uccello on 12-18-2004 11:20 PM
